Awka is an emerging model city in Nigeria with UN Habitat Masterplan. Umuahia is crappy, small and shitty.

Oh you lived in Awka years back, does make any sense. Does anybody need to live in Umahia to know that the place is nothing but a mere glorify local council which only be compared to Ado-ekiti or osun

Lokoja is not just the worse, it shouldn't be considered a state capital of any sort.The govt house is pitch dark at night and you will see weed growing on some of the buildings inside the state house itself.

And all dis mess started when they had an unfortunate administrator some 9 yrs back.I hope they vote themselves out of this mess by DEC.I think the thread should just close now cos that is ur worse state capital for you

The kind of comment I have seen so far shows Nigerian know little about their country.

I have been to several state capitals; benin, PH, Ibadan, Owerri, Lokoja, Akure, Osogbo, Jos, Kaduna, and Abeokuta.

I'll say Abeokuta is the Worst., and Akure is my favourite.

My Ado-Ekiti (My state capital) is also shitty. Though it is better than Abe-idotin and Lokoja.

i disagree that akure is a dump. each time i go to akure i see a lot of genuine infrastructural work. most of the work may not hit you in the face, but they are, in my view, transformational. in my view, akure has very good prospects. ** re benin, if you've always lived there you'd prob not understand why it's such a big let down for a first time visitor. people expect much of benin, hence the usual disappointment. as one of our former 'great' cities, people expect benin to be only slightly below the likes of lagos, ph, and abuja. maybe those expectations are too high **

if i wasn't in lagos, akure wld be my preferred residence in nigeria. might be too boring for some though.                                                                                          @igbo-amaka, i doubt that's akure in the picture. don't remember akure nestling so closely at the feet of mountains. if i were to hazard a guess, i'd say that's idanre in your pic.

You are talking nonsense. If I have not been to Akure I won't be saying this. From Akure to Ondo town to Owo to Ore are all in shambles. Akure the state capital can boast of rocks all over the place but the town is nothing to write about, no social life, no hospitality, the roads are so narrow with shanties and muds houses all over the town. From Adesida to Ijomu to Oke Ijebu to Isolo to Ondo road are all shanties with its low population due zero economic activities. For all I care the town can easily compete with such state capitals as Ado Ekiti, Osogbo, Jalingo, etc.

I knew time will vindicate me on Nairaland. The day I tabled the worst state capitals I have gone to or passed by, bigots crawled out of backwater throwing insults.

The dirtiest and structurally dilapidated capitals I have ever seen in Nigeria are:

Ibadan
Abeokuta
Oshogbo
Ado Ekiti

I am tempted to add Akure to the list but it looks progressively modern.

@olawalebab, i disagree with you that akure is one of the most developed capitals. neither is igbo-amaka right that it's in shambles. the truth lies in between those extremes. it's just a small, pleasant, low-crime regional town where you can move about relatively easily, and live a qualitative life. i like that.  life's not all about skyscrapers @amaka

Akure's new Dome. Akure is positioning her self to be the number one city in the SW after Lagos. Ibadan is too big and really have some run down places but I would not go as far as saying it is the worst city,  in fact Ibadan is two cities in one just like Kano. Cities like Lokoja are bad today because all the Governors they have had are Idoma men who would rather steal all the money than develop their Capital. There is no reasons why a conflunce city like Lokoja should be poorly developed.

I did not say akure is the best, but one of the best in the country, come up north to places like damaturu, birni kebbi,  @amaka when last have you been to akure?
