illicit: Then why do Nigerians that managed to migrate to first world countries where there are abundance of opportunities still indulge in fraud and drug crimes too. Because they can't get rich via legit means there? |

OP because you trekked... Long distance on some occasions probably job hunting doesn't make you poor. You should experience real poverty where you live in the streets probably under a bridge. No roof over your head, you haven't eaten for a day or two and with no hope of where your next meal will come from. Then come back and still insist on your stance of poverty should not be a cause for crime. Of course everyone who experience extreme poverty with no hope will not go into crime... But most people who experience it are likely to go into crime especially if an opportunity presents itself. I used to insist too in the past that poverty should not be an excuse for crime. But I have seen things in my lifetime that made me change my perspective! 6 Likes |

ritzyvic1:This is a different question... You are only broadening the topic if you ask this. Crime exists everywhere. People are motivated to crime for different reasons. Some people do crime for fun/sport because it gives them a thrill. Some have disorders eg kleptomaniacs. Many reasons. Poverty is just one of many motivations! 1 Like |

Poverty isn't really the only reason to commit crime but it's a huge factor. Most of our politicians are incredibly rich but it has never stopped them from bleeding the country dry. In Nigeria, most of the crimes committed here is because of poverty (desperation), opportunity. |
