When you travel to Qatar for the first time, one of the beautiful things you might have never seen anywhere else in the world are blue-coated asphalt roads in Doha.

The streets of Abdullah Bin Jassim near the iconic Souq Waqif in Doha have been painted blue as part of a pilot project to combat the effects of extreme heat in the city.

These blue-coated asphalt roads serve a fascinating purpose: They reflect heat instead of absorbing it.

Watch the beauty of these blue-coated roads.👇

White would have had a better cooling effect than the blue coating from simple physics.

Good for aesthetics all the same.

I think the suns reflection on a white paved road may cause a strain on the eyes of drivers plying the road thus the blue color chosen, which may absorb part of the sunrays.
