NYSC is not compulsory, you can apply for an exemption certificate but you're still of age. If you're still interested in taking part in NYSC, you can visit their website nysc.gog.ng to find out how you can get mobilized as a graduate of a foreign university.

Why are you advising on a matter you don't have adequate knowledge about?

Hello there, I'm nigerian but born and raised in Kenya and East Africa. My degree is Ugandan and work experience Kenyan. I'm relocating to nigeria and currently looking for work wondering if I'll have to do nysc also? I've never stepped foot there and I'd like some guidance. I'm 26

How will it affect my chances of getting a job

Yes!

You are a Nigerian you graduated below 30 yrs. NYSC is mandatory so long as you are a Nigerian and you have a degree. Where you were born or where you obtained your degree is irrelevant.

Normally as a graduate, one would expect you have been equipped with the intelligence and initiative to just look up the NYSC act online and read it particularly as we are constantly told you are the digital generation….but hey what do I know? University Education clearly is not what it used to be.

Wrong. NYSC is compulsory for every Nigerian graduate under the age of 30. No NYSC certificate and your employment is illegal

Are you coming to work in Nigeria? If not, I don't see the need. Are you a full blown Nigerian and may return home? If yes, then you should do the NYSC. @OP

you are a Nigerian. As u got your degree before you were 30, you have to serve. It's compulsory unless you don't want to do govt work. But private establishments equally ask for NYSC certificate. That's what led to the removal of former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun. And she ran back to UK

If you want to take part in the NYSC, wait till around October 2026 so that you'll still be serving during the 2027 election.
As a presiding officer, your lunch alone can be as much as #100k. That doesn't include transportation form major political parties and "thank-you-for-being-nice" money.
Just don't let them post you to the North.

NYSC is compulsory, except for the few exemptions. If NYS is not compulsory, why are graduates taking part. Millions of Nigerians would have been opting out. We take part only in exercises that are mandatory
Re: Nysc For Foreign Born Nigerians by Originalsly: 2:06pm On May 19
NYSC is for Nigerians. Are you Nigerian? ... Yes ... register. No... keep it moving.

I will advise that you forget about exemption and just do the NYSC program since you're still writing the age limit

You’re Nigerian and still within the age group fro NYSC.Nobody will issue you an exemption certificate at that age.You must do NYSC.Just don’t agree to go to Zamfara , Sokoto etc where bandits have almost over powered the security agencies.
