SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH ATTENDS THE HISTORIC INAUGURATION OF ABIGAIL MARSHALL KATUNG AS FIRST BLACK AFRICAN LORD MAYOR OF LEEDS


Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, joined the Senate Leadership to witness the historic inauguration of Her Excellency Abigail Marshall Katung as the first black African and 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

During the ceremony, Senator Ubah commended Her Excellency Mrs Abigail for her steadfastness and dedication to public service, which earned her the esteemed position. He also congratulated her and her husband, Senator Sunday Marshall, and emphasized the importance of diversity and representation in leadership roles.

Senator Ubah highlighted the need for more diversity in leadership positions across all sectors and encouraged women and minorities to pursue their ambitions and strive for positions of influence and power. He expressed confidence in Her Excellency Abigail Marshall Katung's ability to lead Leeds with grace and excellence and prayed for success in her endeavours to make the city a better place for all its residents and make Nigerians proud.

The event was attended by several dignitaries; Nigerian Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro who represented the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, Nigerian House of Representatives Speaker, Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, former House of Representatives Speaker, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Most Rev. Matthew Kuka, alongside over twenty-seven (27) Senators.

Her Excellency Abigail Marshall Katung's appointment as the Lord Mayor of Leeds is a historic moment not only for the city and the United Kingdom but also for Nigeria.
As a black African woman, she is expected to bring a unique perspective and experience to the role, and Senator Ubah has no doubt that she will serve the people of Leeds with integrity, compassion, and dedication.

Why are all those Africans crowding the space and leaving behind their jobs-which they are not even doing well or know how to do, to attend something that has nothing to do with them.

In Leeds they don't rig election or steal ballot boxes...nor do they rendition people from one shythole country like Kenya to another
