Edo Queens Win 2024 NWFL Title

Edo Queens have emerged winner of the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League title following a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa Queens on Sunday.

Moses Aduku’s side finished top of the NWFL Super Six playoff standings with 10 points from four games.

It was the first time the Benin Girls will be winning NWFL title.

They will represent Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League next season.

Emem Essien opened scoring for Edo Queens with an acrobatic finish inside the box a minute before the half hour mark.

Bayelsa Queens rallied back with Zainab Olopade equalising four minutes after the break.

Rivers Angels finished in second position after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Heartland Queens.

Olamide Adugbe broke the deadlock for Rivers Angels 18 minutes from time.

Substitute Emmanuella James stunned the former champions with the equalising goal on the dot of 90 minutes.

shocked

Bayelsa Queens started well and gave their fans early hope only to drop points against Heartland Queens.

They had a perfect opportunity to win it on home soil but they lost out.

Most of their names have queens. Lol. Never even knew Nigeria had female football clubs. This is what should always be on front page instead of those useless european clubs Nigerians like to promote. Anyways, Congratulations to our Edo queens.

Why is there no club world club at the female level?

I would have liked to watch a game between barcelona femeni and a Nigerian female team.

What is Emem Essien doing in Edo?

That's a Cross River/Akwa Ibom Name

Glad to know that a Cross River / Akwa Ibom woman is making up an Edo team.

Caf champions league final has been played, no single noise from any quarters in Africa. Until UEFA CL final, you will see hypocrisy of the highest order everywhere. One day una go wise

That's just the Super 6. There is a regular season (the teams are divided into 2 groups of 8 ), then the top 6 teams at the end of the regular season play a Super 6 competition to determine the winner of the league.

The French League does something similar with their Super 4 Playoff.

They need sponsors. Can you sponsor them?

All female football leagues have similar issues - poor financial rewards due to lack of sponsorship.

Their fellow women would rather go watch Zee world than buy tickets to go watch them play in stadiums
