raskymonojendor:The terms of regionalism should be spelt out. That's what we're advocating. But not isolatory move as these governors are doing without broader understanding of other ethnic groups. We have been advocating for true fiscal federalism where other segments of the society are not cosigned to hewers of Wood. The basic foundation of true federalism is anchored on ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and religious affinity. But this is lacking in our present arrangement as nation. 2 Likes |

Nice one.. Let's see the Aguiyi Ironsi that'll come and stop regional cooperation in the South West. Their focus should include: 1. Security 2. Food and agriculture 3. Power 4. Infrastructure e.g. road and rail 5. Industry and employment 6. Rehabilitation of our youths 7. Resource control 8. Urban and regional planning 9? Low-cost housing scheme 10. Intra-regional economic cooperation, etc. The journey of a thousand mile they say starts with a step. God bless all Odua sons and daughters worldwide God bless Nigeria. 13 Likes 1 Share |

raskymonojendor: Na Lagos dey shack you Yoruba people If Nigeria eventually endorse regionalism... The southwest will become overly dependent on Lagos The south South will gain the most due to access to sea, a more collaborative partnership with the east more than any other region, large crude oil and gas reserves both in the east and south, this indices coupled with high HDI in the south South region will make you westerners and northerners troop to the south. Go and write it down.. You yorubas are isolating yourselves with the way you guys are moving in recent times and it will cost you guys in the long run. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Belcon: Nigeria can NEVER be divided peacefully….therefore Nigerians have to learn to live together peacefully and harmoniously! Nigeria is just like America…they may have dividing tendencies (Republicans against Democrats, etc.) but they cannot break up because the consequences would be dire and unimaginable….husbands turning against wives, brothers against sisters, etc. The earlier we realise this, the better for millions of our citizenry who are living in abject poverty while the well-to-do are distracting them with talk of break-up, sit-at-home and all sorts of rubbish instead of focussing on their education and lifting the populace out of poverty! |

I don't believe we will see the sort of regionalism of the 60s ever again. With the level of tribal polarisation that is now so ingrained, the old type of regionalism will destabilise the country even more. The current States arrangement has helped to spread development to places that would not have experienced it under the old regional arrangement. Population and what people expect from government is several fold greater that in the 1960's when people were largely uneducated and were happy to follow the lead of a handful of educated leaders. Today, the idea that a regional government with its capital in Lagos or Ibadan will be better for people living in Ede, Ikere-Ekiti, or Akoko is unrealistic. That government will be too distant from a large part of the SW population. Having one powerful regional leader controlling over 40 million people is going to escalate the do or die politics we have seen in recent past. The regional governor or Premier of the South West will be so powerful and have access to such huge amount of resources that elections to elect the leader will be more brutal than anything we have seen in the past. In my view, the current States structure is superior in bringing government close to the people. It is the politicians who are messing up the system. States within a region need to cooperate more and identify some appropriate and beneficial region-wide policies that can be applied uniformly across the entire region. Region-wide branding such as this new anthem is a good development. But there is no need for an actual regional government. 1 Like |

highbee02: And so? Yoruba came from ife which is a town in Osun state. What is wrong in adopting an Anthem from Osun state? Is Osun not part of the SW? Something must come from somewhere. If they choose to compose a new Anthem the composers must come from any of the SW states anyway so it doesn't make any difference. 4 Likes |

Umuinyioku: What I said was that student should be made to sing both Nigeria anthem and SW anthem in their respective schools. In Osun for example, students sing this Yoruba anthem with the national anthem so nothing stop them from singing both across SW states. That was why I said they should sing Yoruba anthem alongside Nigeria anthem. 4 Likes |

There is absolutely no great nation on earth that doesn't educate its citizens in her mother tongue. Nigerians and other Black Africans are a bunch of conquered cretins. No historical philosophy; no contribution to medicine; no contribution to science and technology; even the official language is that of the colonial master; literature books are written in a foreign language. Just a bunch of confused and useless folks in that useless continent. Imagine the idiots saying that an anthem in an African language is treason. Chai! A bunch of conquered idiots. |
