Does Political Leadership Influence A Nation's Football Performance? by VinnyBaba: 6:42am On Jun 11 |
In the Days of General Sani Abacha, the Super eagles had a Glorious Era. The Man's Ruthless but Purpose Driven Style of leadership seems to bear fruits in our Super eagles. We won a FIFA Under 17 World cup in 1993, won AFCON in 1994 and Olympics Football Gold in 1996. ๐๐ Same with Ibrahim Babangida who ruled in the late 80's and early 90's. Nigeria won our 1st Under 17 FIFA World Cup in 1985, reached Under 20 World cup Final in 1989 and Played very well in the AFCONs of that era. ๐ Even Olusegun Obasanjo, our Team was good and in Sydney Olympics 2000, We packed medals (in Athletics) and gave a Respectable performance. But since APC of BUHARI and TINUBU came, It seems their Leadership Struggles is affecting Super eagles. SO I ASK, DOES POLITICAL LEADERSHIP INFLUENCE FOOTBALL PERFORMANCES OF NATIONS? ๐ค Surely there must be some countries with Bad leadership doing well in Football.๐คจ What's your Say? USA, England, Russia, China don't even have the best football teams Senegal's transformation in Africa football is not about leadership but commitment from the players themselves. Having the mindset of making their country proud. What we have in Nigeria are arrogant players who do because then play in abroad or earning reasonable, then Super Eagles coach can't discipline them during training 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Remember many of these guys still have friends and families on ground, they hear what's going on on a daily It could have a depressing effect on them, though they are professionals but it seems they just don't want to play for their country anymore Leadership is everything, I've been a leader for a while and I can tell you that a good leader brings so much positivity to his team 1 Like |

Sports is not the leader's priority. And it can't be a priority until all the matters prioritised currently are dealt with. US has more concerns in military advancement than in sports or football. Brazil's national glory is football, they can't boast of anything else. So are other nations. France's president do physically meet with his national team players to explain how important their victory on the pitch means and we see it motivate the players. So, until Nigeria leaders invest heavily in sports, no result will pop up. 1 Like |

Super Eagles did not play well, not leadership. But Truth be told, APC has scattered the country in all aspects, Tinubu especially, Where's the #1 = $1 they promised in Buhari campaigns. People who know Tinubu should tell him to bring back Nigeria to how he met it, at least, Buhari regime seems sterling in the present situation 1 Like |

Leadership influences Patriotism. Patriotism means: "Love of Country and Willingness to Sacrifice for it" Tinubu's administration is generally perceived to be heavily biased in favor of Yoruba tribe. &Tinubu has done very little to unite the country along tribal lines. This has dampened the spirit of Patriotism among Nigerians including S/Eagles players. So they can never give their best or play their hearts out. Simply put, nobody wants to "die" for Nigeria. This is the fundamental problem of S/Eagles. 1 Like
