This is a good idea feom Reno but d problem is our lack of adequate data. If u yake prisoners out to d farm we will be sure that over 70% of them won't return. We can only guaranty a considerable level of compliance if there's stricter laws against escapees, and then there should be opportunities to reduce jail terms if the prisoner serves judiciously and productively.
Then there shoukd be skill acquisition programs in d prisons whereby people can learn skills like tractor operator, escavator operators, machine operators, fabrications etc so that even in prison, a certain amount shoukd be saved in a trust account for d prisoner to support him/her after the prison terms. This will in turn reduce the quest to break away and escape feom prisons.
That's what's proper rehab in d prosons.

Prisoners are not slaves reno, we have abolished slave trade already. If u must arrest someone and lock them up u must ensure they are safe in ur custody or else u will be guilty of a crime.

U cannot torture prisoners just because they commited a crime.

U cannot use them as labourers just because u locked them up that is against the law unless they sentence stated with hard labour.

Reno has misfired again.
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by Blue3k(m): 11:52am On Jun 14

Reno should then pray to go to prison, so that he will get free food. Most times he talks off point.

Problem is that there are not enough jobs in Nigeria to go round, for law-abiding Nigerians, talk-less of for Prisoners.
Many Nigerians will gladly accept those jobs that the prisoners would have done.

That's not entirely true. Many Nigerians would rather move to Lagos empty-handed, sleep under the flyovers and hope that a destiny helper will change their story instead of farming in their villages to earn a living. I like the idea of FG acquiring lands and using prisoners to cultivate them.

This guy is a fo.ol, he speaks as if he knows all...

The condition of prisoners sometimes will make people want to do something great, the question he needs to ask himself is, what is the condition of the Nigerian prison?

Is it a prison cell that is supposed to occupy only 10people which almost 100people are occupying?

What will always be on their mind is to run away, so that idea can't work in Nigeria..

If Nigeria prisoners are being taken care of very well, they will be glad yo even earn on their own till they service their time and leave...

I think you are an IDIOT! Prisons serves as a reformatory home for the prisoners, not to further punish them!

Moreover in other climes where the prisoners are allowed to work, they are paid only that they wouldn't have access to the money paid until they complete their sentence.

Advocating to use prisoners as slave laborers is tantamount to anarchy and abuse. In just one month of starting that system, our prisons will be filled to the brim because rich people will embark of mass incarceration of the poor masses just so they'd have access to free laborers/workers.

They are paid stipends way less than an average laborer. Do you know most Chinese workers in Nigeria are prisoners?

It is forced labour prisoners too have rights. It should not be mandatory those who want to should and could earn extra money for themselves. The idea is to actually actively prevent people from going to jail for not too serious crimes but rather fine them based of their current income level

There's sense in that, as some prisoners would even get skill once they free them. I love this idea, and it will help in discouraging people from doing crime.

There's hardly any Nigerian Prison that hasn't got a prisons farm just so you know.
Inmates in Nigeria prisons are always working with hard labour either in a prisons farm or at the Warden farm.

Like another person already said, if prisoners build roads for free, millions of job seekers will remain jobless plus politicians and contractors will be the biggest beneficiaries not the masses.

Ronu or whatever that mindless interloper is called makes no sense when critically examined.

Never said an "Average Nigerian". There are many Nigerians who don't have anything to do & will gladly accept any paid labour that the prisoners would have done.
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by ifyain: 12:15pm On Jun 14
This is a simplest and cheap idea from someone that is a former adviser to the president, forced labour is a criminal offence , whether it is the state or individuals. prison is a place of rehabilitation and statically countries that have more humane prison, the reoffending rate is minimal. Here in the Netherlands people can go to prison during the weekend and come back home. if the government really want to cut cost, but we must first solve the cause of crime in the first place.

Point is there are many Nigerians who don't have anything to do & will gladly accept any paid labour that the prisoners would have done. Remember Reno's point was for them to generate revenue.

&what stops Govt from acquiring such lands & employing law-abiding citizen & generating employment & bettering their lives &...
