Extortion is both formal and informal at our international airports, all those sellers inside the airports that extort people all in the name of doing business is so annoying, check out the price of bottled water, you will think it is the price of a full pack of bottled water they are giving you shocked, eating there is even at an abnormally high cost shocked

Not just APC tenure alone, it has been there since time of military to PDP before APC. So talk with sense!

Begging at the airport has always been there but it's good we've got a listening official now unlike before that no one was ready to even listened not to talk of resolution.

The ONLY way that COULD stop that trend is to carry out employment of such people to work in that place following due diligence.

Anyone to be employed at the airports should be on merit. when that happens , it would be difficult to have this sort of begi begi scenario..

its really quite sad and disgraceful !

Pay them a reasonable wage
I hate it too, but imagine someone on $100 monthly salary catering to international flights that costs $1000 per head minimum every day

It is just to safe face. If he doesn't talk, Tinubu will not know he's working. As he just said it, it ends there. Extortion and begging have come to stay in our airports since his oga has made life so difficult for the masses. grin

The begging is pro max at our airports. Both Arrival and departure.
In October 2023 upon arrival at Port Harcourt International Airport if you see the begging. I was embarrassed.
What really made me more embarrassed was when the plain clothes officer was begging an Indian abi Lebanese man for tip. The man brought out OLD and dirty #100 note and give to the officer ( it's like the man know and purposely travelled and came back with that money). The officer look and returned the money that it's insulting to him to give him that old money.
While traveling back in November, at the departure terminal, same begging.
But when I got to my destination, no one cares about what you bring for them.

the only actions FAAN can take is to increase the salaries of it's workers to end the menace.
100k salary is less than 18k salary 9 years back.

This is not an acceptable excuse. They can choose to resign instead

wow!! but it's an acceptable excuse to increase flight fare by over 1000% because of exchange rate and fuel price.
they've been employed they should instead lay them off and pay the ones serving better.
I spend an average of 5k daily as a single bachelor on nothing important and that's 150k monthly.
how do you think family men copes without compromise?

The begging is so annoying and very bad. They at least have a job. They are being paid. If the job is not paying them enough they should quit and become professional beggers. How can u justify this unethical behaviour on this grounds? If they didn't get a job u ll be the first to say they don't have a job thats why. Now th3y do, u ppl are talking about payment as a justification for this national embarrassment
Abeg there's no excuse for this. Do you like it when u are Harrassed at the airport over begging? And it looks like its thier right... if u don't u ll see how your checking will be

I was at the Lagos International Airport two weeks ago, and last week. The begging there is not as much as the begging on the streets of Lagos.

Two weeks ago NEPA took light at the airport. Last week, it was the officials asking for money in order to let me in so I could see my friends off.

Nigerians and Lagosians who are not traveling don't get easy access into the airport, so those doing the begging are the airport workers, including Customs, Immigration, and Security Agents. Pay them Minimum Wage of N494,000 then we can begin to question and challenge them for begging.

If you want to see real begging though, come to Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi when the President is around. Quite sad!

I had my own experience in April. Even at the point of declaring the Nigerian money on me, the man wanted me to drop something I say no. You may encounter about 5-8 units at the airport as you check your way through to the boarding terminal and they want you to give them something.

But with a minimum wage of 30k/month can anyone blame them from "diversifying" their earnings?

Even the local airports are not left out. Most irritating are the idiots at the airport toilets. You can't piss in peace without these guys loitering menacingly all around you, waiting to beg the living daylight out of your pocket.

It's very bad. As a naija passport holder, immediately you get off the plane they are on you. Looking for ways to extort you. The worst is when you eventually get out of the airport you will be met with those ones in front of the airport begging for money. It's very bad and disgraceful.
