The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III, says it will take decades for the bandit-ravaged North-West geopolitical zone to come out of the menacing security challenge.

The President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) stated this at the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State on Monday.

“What we must do is to challenge these bandits because we all know the consequences of banditry and insurgency on our lives. But it will take decades to get out of it if all we get out of it. We all know the consequences and the problems,” he said.

The Sultan expressed the readiness of traditional rulers to partner with security agencies and the seven governors of the geopolitical zone to “save our region from the numerous problems” of banditry and insurgency.

With state police and the political will, it will take less than a decade

Governments the world over have not overcome drug syndicate, I doubt this criminal enterprise can be defeated in same vein. We messed up the day we paid militants in the ND money to keep them quite, from then on we've been paying trouble makers money keep civil.

The only answer to breakdown of law is justice, swift and absolute justice

In other words, not in his lifetime since he negotiated for their amnesty.

They also called on Buhari to negotiate on their behalf.

Says who? All these kind of worms are the stuffs that discourages the government and the people's will and resolve to flush out the menace. Any serious minded government will flush out banditry in a way they have never seen before and sanity will return asap. Decade ko , century niiii

Crime rate was so high in El Salvador, but when they had a president who is prepared to fight crime, crime rate has really reduce. State police and the political will, will end it in less than a decade. Even though it might not end, but it will be drastically reduce

Lamo it won't take 18 months if I was president honestly

Bandit get 2 weeks to surrender and serve their time in prison no amnesty

After that total ban on arrest of any bandit... Shoot them even if they surrender

Farmers Union to number members to join the nscdc amd would be given gun (ak47 and night vision, drone with heat map reading capacity)

Lolz, you think rulling this country is a joke right? what if those bandits disguise as farmers and use the same guns to start their usual business again?

Banditry is now a big business that even some of our security agents are involves, so Sultan is 100% correct by saying it could takes decades to come out of. This business is likely to continue irrespective of anyone in power until bandits had enough and lose interests in the business.

Sultan,

If it will take decades then well meaning Nigerians should stand up and fight for themselves, I'm glad we are now seeing how useless the government is, from federal down to the local level.

Unfortunately, no NASS member would support the establishment of state policing. The idiots in government houses in Kano and PH have sealed the fate of state police in Nigeria

Crime rate has not reduced in El Salvador, stop drinking that cheap coolaid. He's going after petty criminals using dictatorial methods, silencing opposition and limiting free press.

The drug syndicate is alive well and thriving in El Salvador and the president is fully in bed with them, he started his career as a PR for individuals affiliated with the drug cartels in South America.
Re: It Will Take Decades To Get Out Of Banditry – Sultan by Raf4: 8:31am On Jun 25
It will take decades because you people are breeding and pampering them.
If you can use your office as Sultan to charge all the emirs, imams, village heads, community leaders etc to fish out and report every bandit/terrorist in their neighbourhood (just like during elections), it won't take months before the rag- tag terrorists are crushed and totally eliminated from Nigeria.

..this sultan is a great threat to Nigeria..

..his statement addressing fulani terrorists as bandits is an eyeopener..

..when they say bandits. What do they mean.. Do you also know that bandits have occupied large portions of northern Nigeria & implementing the achaic laws of sharia..

..he has said the only truth that "bandits" will take decades to be defeated...

..you are a mad sultan.. you are lucky that you have your slaves in power..when an Army General like the one previoudly under GEJ come onboard..we will know whether it will take decades or weeks..

..enablers of fulani terrorism pretending to be the sponsors of the terrorists..

Lolz, is like you takes this banditry of a thing to means Boko Haram that are fighting and dying for religion course.

Current bandits are business men who live among masses, and not permanently inside forest. Some are even coming from neighbouring countries to kidnap and take their victims to the said countries. What about saboteurs among intelligent officials who take a cut from the proceeds of the ransoms? Your Russsians and Israeli machineries will kill civilians and farmers tired, not real Bandits who are graciously enjoying their ransoms in hotels in Abuja.

All they need is information from military insiders to operate. Or your so called machineries will go into our forest withiout the help of Nigeria military? What elder seeing sitting on a stood, a boy will never see it even from top of a tree. Sultan is not a fool for making such statement, he live among them, and he knows better.

Until Bandits had enough, lose interest in kidnapping business, or the business is no longer profitable, there may not be the end to this manace in decades.

State police doesn't mean the police will be handed over to the State governor.
There will be structures to prevent the governors from using it for their selfish interest.
