I do hear some states in USA (most cold states) do offer fully funded PhD with monthly salary as research assistant. PhD applicant is medical science filed. Anyone can knows how to go about it or Anyone offers such service? |

Correction: Form I-20 is not "admission letter" Form I-20 is code name for "Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status" The only similarity is that both documents are issued by the school. Admission letter is issued when an admission decision has been made on your application while i-20 is mostly issued after you have sent evidence of financial ability to cover for your studies. justwise: The link was never shared here. I only notified them via the post on here and my message specifically read "check your email". So what's the point of having the email contact functionality on this platform anyway? Communications would have still happened via email without anyone's notice as anyone can email anyone here. Or is it because I did the courtesy of mentioning it via the post? I'd take a back seat on that one. We all can agree that the goal is "Date Search" and WhatsApp provides quick notifications for when dates are available for applicants to go book their appointments on a timely note. Many people here including myself have benefited from that group when it comes to interview dates and snap updates by others. No doubt this platform serves its purpose but so does a WhatsApp group for specifically "Date Search". We cannot do "date-searching" here, it'll be almost defeating the purpose. We're talking about timeliness! And appointment slots get filled up fast!! They asked a legitimate question to which I responded without breaking any rule and I consider it personally disrespectful the action that followed. Your opinion is that WhatsApp group is selfish but I vehemently disagree with you. Far more people share quicker dates on there than on here. How many times has anyone posted about availability of dates on here since the last 4 weeks? Yet, people are booking appointments because selfless applicants like themselves are helping each other. I really hate to write long epistles on inconsequential stuff as I've gone past the stage of tantrums. I'd expect a better excuse for the exaggerated censorship not this! 1 Like |

TEMIT0PE: Hey 🤠@TEMIT0PE 1. Form I-20 to me is admission letter (in summary) and nothing can change it. Form I 20 consist of admission letter , sevis info, etc and together it is called Admission Pack. 2. Your explanation above is unnecessary repetition. You should have replied the OP instead of waiting for me to answer and then coming out to act as an examiner. PS: My point is justified below. Best Wishes 🙏

mayford: No amount of lengthy episode will change my stand on this, WhatsApp group is very self idea as its only available to few number of people , open forum like this serves everyone both registered an non-registered individuals visiting this forum. If you are so concerned about helping people to get a date what stops you from notifying people here when date is available? If you can't share it openly here then well and good but don't use this thread to feed the whatsapp group. |

justwise: Hey 🤠1. @mayford and @justwise have good points but @justwise will have my vote. 2. Using this particular section for date-search update will jam-packed the thread and makes it uninteresting (@mayford advantage). 3. Creating WhatsApp group for date-search purpose will put 75% of the people here out of new date update because not everyone is interested in sharing their WhatsApp numbers with strangers and some are not even on WhatsApp (@justwise advantages). 4. @justwise why not create separate date-search thread here ? Just an opinion. PS: And kindly correct members with formal explanation like that of a team work. @mayford is an active contributor. Best Wishes 🙏 1 Like |

justwise: You have your opinion and I have mine. I'm just as entitled to mine as you are to yours! So don't try to impose whatever on me. Why are you so bothered anyway? If you also care so much about helping people and not being unnecessarily antagonistic, you should join in lending a helping hand here. At the very least, I did my part in answering pertinent questions on here to the best of my ability. And obviously, you missed the part where I mentioned how quickly appointment slots get filled. Posting available dates here to people who are not even online at the time is defeating! You should rather see reason instead of being headlong focused on rebuttal, missing the point. And validates my response above. I'm not even an admin of the group and I was not and I'm not now seeking to populate the group. The OP asked for help for a date search group and I sent an email with the link, same way someone here sent me the link and I was able to book an appointment date early. It's because I posted the notification, that's the cause of all these. If I didn't post it, you wouldn't have known. Again, no rule was violated. As a leader, if you can't take criticisms whether constructive or otherwise, then you're not fit for that position! And I don't care if you have an irrelevant discontent with my criticism. I believe my critique is well placed and valid. I don't know you, neither do you. Coming here to act like you're the alpha and omega is just a nonsensical attitude. There's more to life than having some obligation on nairaland. 1 Like |

To all prospective applicants. Several years ago, I was like you trying to navigate US admission and visa process. I got almost 70% of the information I need here aside Google and YouTube. Make use of the search bar to search for information you need. Read previous threads especially from 2013-2015. The reason I suggest those years is you’ll find lots of interview transcripts. Please, avoid anyone with email address on their profile asking you to message them especially those with Bible verse on their profile. Also, those that go on and on about being trained as admission counselor. Read previous threads and you won’t regret. Avoid totally lying on your application that you’re married when you’re not. It doesn’t help your case in anyway. Most agents will advise you to, but you will end up regretting. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Hello @OyoTunjiUSA, You can choose to ascribe your own subjective interpretation you like to the code name of a DOS document. It does not change the actual name and meaning of the document. And it’s funny you think the screenshots you have shared backs up your personal interpretation. The actual name of the document is literally stated in the same screenshots you posted and the conditions to which it can be approved. An “admission letter” only requires you to apply and the admission committee to find you worthy. Form I-20 requires an additional move from you after being issued your admission letter. To infer that they are the same thing is misleading, borderline ignorant and mischievous. You are not above correction, man. You don’t know it all. Take correction with humility and come off your high horse. Finally, you are not in any position to tell me what i can comment on, who i can quote or infer someone else’s post is unnecessary. Cheers. mayford: You are just starting, you are not even close to what i have done in this thread and many others for more than 12yrs, you are a learner. Don't even attempt to compare your 2yrs of contribution here to my 12yrs + i have run this. This is my last comment regarding this issue with you, i will moderate your post from now on. TEMIT0PE: 🤠1. You are a fault finder. I have not read any of your post guiding anyone here since last year. I know any USA visa topic more than you. Form I-20 is simply an Admission letter. Don't tell me the meaning of sevis i know it. 2. @Benwems as attached below have asked that question over 12 hours and no one has given him clue. Therefore, i challenge you to go and answer him and guide him appropriately. 3. Go and look for fresh questions to answer stop correcting @OyotunjiUSA who is almost a professor in this topic. We are waiting to read your answer to @benwems go use your attacking time to contribute.

In response to Justwise post on WhatsApp groups. Truth is you can't do date search hunt on Nairaland that is the truth, slots get filled up in 30 secs, the day I secured a slot for interview, it literally took 30 secs for the three slots to be filled up. Whatsapp date hunt group usually have time allocated to all members to check their CGI portal and update the group from morning till night. Anyone hoping to get a date by checking if someone post on Nairaland will be hours late. I understand your own point as unnecessary whatsapp group distracts the thread from it's focus but for date hunt sadly it cannot be viably done here. Maybe a Nairaland date hunt group can be created and moderated. 1 Like |

Scholar212: You can 100%, the same way people post available date in whatsapp group is the same way anyone can drop it here, its the same first come, first serve system, the date is open to anyone in-need of it, so whatsapp group will not reserve a date for you, it will be gone if you are not quick enough to click. That said. Nobody needs a whatsapp group to be able to get a date, all you need is to spend time on that website refreshing until you get one. People who turned this date thing into business do exactly that, they spend time on that website waiting for date to be available. People are quick to bring up the idea of whatsapp group or drop a link are mostly motivated by financial gain. 2 Likes |

justwise: The other person is correct. There are 24hrs in a day. You can only check 3/4hrs per day before you get restricted. You can’t realistically search for date using platforms like facebook/Nairaland. Instant messaging apps work best. But what do I know? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by OyoTunjiUSA(m): 9:34am On Jul 21 |
Benwems: Hey 🤠1. Every Development Research in USA is 95% well-funded in juxtaposition with other countries. Therefore, Phd in the UNITED STATES (especially in hard sciences where labor is in more demands) is typically funded and they (Phd Students) are more preferred over other graduate students. 2. Although, you will probably be expected to do something to earn this fundings. Either working as a Teaching Assistant or as a Research Assistant or as both. But dont panic about lacking teaching skills as you will have the opportunity to learn and interpret what you are learning " work-study 3. It is actually very hard to do a PhD without getting financial support from your Host-University (except you are a multimillionaire with non-stop flow of incomes) and your Host-University department understands this. Therefore, your fundings should come in one or combinations of the following forms ; Teaching Assistantships (TA) Research Assistantships (RA) Graduate Assistantships (GA) Other forms of Departmental Fundings & Government Fundings. 4. Your first step is to look out for your Future-Supervisor who can unlock all the 5 aforementioned funding opportunities for you. You will have to get in touch (via email enquiry) with professor (s) who are in the field of your interest and to ask if they are interested in taking students. 5. The above (no4) will be very important when you write your SOP (Statement Of Purpose) because you can mention in your SOP that Dr. John Doe has expressed his interest in taking you as a student. 6. To summarise, go and search through as many USA Universities website as you can. Shortlist Professors to contact and e-mail them your CV and why you will be a good fit in their research groups. PS ; There is no limit on how many professors you can contact, and Professors in your Host-University (department) determines your acceptance and fundings PS ; Professors are the ones who look out for "Research Grants" And recommend to their Universities how many incoming Phd students they would need based on available budget. Best Wishes 🙏 |

Benwems:Most PhD programs are funded in the US, does not matter the state. Usually PhD students are funded as Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant or a Fellowship. STEM courses have more funding than the arts and humanities, if you studied a medical and life science related course you can look towards Biomedical science PhD programs. Search on Google or even use Meta AI or ChatGPT to create list of universities in US offering PhD in Biomedical science and related fields. From there you can start going through the school websites one after the other and contact potential supervisors you find their research interesting. |

Is it compulsory to message lecturers before applying for Phd. Can't someone just apply directly on the school website Scholar212: |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Taal17: 4:56pm On Jul 21 |
SETH03:Yes, or is best to do so especially if you need funding. The funding for programs goes with the professor and your research interests should align as much as possible. Treat it like the professor is your hiring manager/line manager. Sell yourself and why you want to do this research. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by chidiakwari: 5:39pm On Jul 21 |
Taal17:No it is not compulsory. It is good to do that depending on the circumstances or requirement. Nowhere is it mandatory. There are some GA/TA that are decided by faculty members. For RA one might need to contact a prof- also not mandatory but helpful. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by chidiakwari: 5:40pm On Jul 21 |
SETH03:No it is not. You’ll have to check with the department if they require that you get a prof you’re willing to work with for alignment on research interest. There are different kinds of Assistantships. RA/ GA/ TA |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by SETH03(m): 8:28pm On Jul 21 |
Taal17:Because if you check schools' websites, you will see the requirements to get admission to their PhD programs. What I mean is, if you apply directly and meet all the requirements, and I assume PhD programs are usually fully funded most of the time, shouldn't the person be admitted? Also, I don't think messaging a supervisor is usually part of the requirements, but I could be wrong. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by SETH03(m): 8:36pm On Jul 21 |
chidiakwari:Thank you! Because I have checked some schools' websites, and the requirements are mostly GRE scores, transcripts, English proficiency test results, recommendation letters, Statement of Purpose (SOP), and CV. And if someone has all these and they are up to standard, is messaging a lecturer (or supervisor) really necessary again? I often hear people say that you need to contact a supervisor first, who will then consider your application. |
