You are focusing on the ant 🐜 while the elephant 🐘 in the room is looking at you.

One of the primary function of government is to secure lives and properties. This incident is just one out of the many killings going on.

What can a private citizen without powers do when the government with constitutional powers, money, and other resources has become useless and irresponsible?

To whom much is given, much is expected.

It is not about one big action. government is to secure lives and properties This is the simple and pedestrain commentary that does not accomodate the nuances of solutions. The solutions to securing lives and property are a combo meal of different proportions, and citizens definitely have a role to play in the process.

For starters - off the top of my head, the reporting is of limited value and can be expanded. The journalist (who is not govt) covering this piece must comply with adequate crime reporting standards, in the absence of which should be professional censure and enforcement of errant reporting. In order to achieve this, we would need to establish the current rules of reporting and so on to know if additional stipulations should be added. This process would need enagagement and with time the ball would be moved forward in the direction the ensures that wherever crime is reporting useful info is covered. This way, we know the names and location and histories of the culprits.

If there is no databse for culprits, and the NATIONAL DATABASE IS found wanting, the private individuals in Ogun State through collaboration with comp science/data science/statistics students can be engaged to participate in building one. GOVT is still not involved. The database may include culprits' personal details, arresting officers, stage of judicial proceedings, judges attending to cases, prison status, years spent in prison after arrest etc, Still, no GOVT involved.

A lot of small steps can be taken to achieve our aims of a livable society. Automatically delegating every problem to GOVT leads to mental atrophy in solving solvable problems. GOVT is a mechanism with limited capacity to serve our aims. Other alternative, collaborative, parallel mechanism can also be developed to solve our problems.

Can you please stop! Your last response reeks of meandering around the truth. How can an intelligent mind in 2024 argue that government is not involved in the organization, collection and analysis of data?

How do you plan and execute a budget without necessary data and statistics of the people you want to govern?

For what crime? If your mother send you to market to buy a certain ingredient for dinner, and you stole it, does that make her an accomplice?
Lol.
Your analogy is funny sha
What is the native doctor going to say in this regard? Where is he going to tell the authorities that he sent his client to get human heads "legally"?

A native doctor doesn't care, all he asks for is an ingredient to cook something, he doesn't care where you get it.

Sleeping with a man overnight in his home for 1-3k? Killing a fellow human being for 100k? All I see in this story is extreme poverty mixed with extreme wickedness and extreme stupidity/ignorance.
Also, religious belief.

Most of our traditional religion believe in human sacrifice

Superstition, poverty and wickedness is killing us in Africa. Someone just committed murder for money rituals which dont work.A woman was ready to be a sex slave for a whole night for a paltry N3,000 and has now lost her life. What a life

so Dem don dey use ashawo for ritual 😲

E be like say this don dey happen for decades o because I heard a similar story in London close to 16 years ago and the Bros who narrated it to me said it was his town man also in London who carried out the heinous act on an olosho many years before he recounted the story to me so it must have happened at least 20 years ago.

The story I was told was that the culprit Bros was a private car hire service driver at Muritala Muhammed Airport and he and some of his fellow drivers consulted a Babalawo for money rituls and the Baba asked them to bring a fresh human head and the men hired an olosho, and drugged her and had their way with her before cutting off her head and taking it to the Baba.

The baba was shocked that they could go that far as he had thought thay they would not be able to go that far and the Baba was so scared that he stalled them and ran away.

The Bros in question later made it to London and at the time I was told this story (16 years ago) he was married to an Oyinbo woman and was on his way to getting his UK passport.

Makes you wonder the number of Naija deadly and hardened criminals now residing in the UK.

If you are a night crawler in London, you tend to hear a lot of stories that opens your eyes and just because someone dey London no mean say dem dey decent since you don't know their past history in Naija.

London wey be say around 2008, I was walking in Deptford South East London and came to an Orita Meta (3 way junction) and I saw a calabash filled with juju (called Ebo) on the floor at the 3 way junction in broad daylight.
