The last time the GDP was this low was in 2006/2007 where the population was ~100 million less than it currently is. HIGHEST POPULATION INCREASE With a population increase of 30%, Ethiopia had the highest population growth in Africa within the past 10 years. Nigeria comes second with a growth rate of 27%. BEST GDP PERFORMANCE Ethiopia had the best GDP performance with a growth of 268% over the past ten years. Their economic growth is good enough to absorb the 30% population growth experienced within the same time frame. This is in stark contrast to Nigeria which saw a 27% increase in population while losing over 50% of its GDP within the same period. SMALLEST POPULATION INCREASE I) South Africa had the smallest rate of population growth among the listed countries at 11.45%. its GDP reduced by 2% within same timeframe. II) Algeria has the second slowest growth rate at 19.45%. Its GDP increased by 6% within the same timeframe. III) Egypt comes third with a growth rate of 19.7% while having a GDP growth of 13.74% seun, mynd44, nlfpmod 1 Like 1 Share |

I’m still trying to figure out why Nigeria is being referred to as the “Giant of Africa” instead of “Giant of Nothing” 1 Like |

Mystic216: 10 years ago, the description was apt cos no other country came close in terms of economic performance. But in 2024, we're not even half what we used to be. Anybody still calling themselves the giant dey find excuse take cover their shame. |

What do you expect from Buhari and Tinubu two failures succeeding each other in bad governance. The worst of Yoruba taking over from the worst of Fulani.Nigeria is only doing well in population increase. |
Re: Change In Population/GDP Of Most Successful African Countries From 2014 To 2024 by Dougad: 7:02pm On Jun 27, 2024 |
paramakina202: Population increase while the economy continues to decline is an imolosion waiting to happen. I'm not sure I'll label it as "doing well" when we've grown by 50 million in just 10 years. There are countries 10x more successful than Nigeria that haven't experienced that kind of population growth in over 60 years. We're projected to reach 1 billion in less than 30 years. The developed world is slowly outgrowing the need for crude oil and are investing in renewable energy. I'm scared of the reality of having over 1 billion people in the nation when the demand for oil goes down. |
