These are perishables ...if most people aren't being them are much as they used to due to the high cost...what then happens to the many that they can't sell.. most people have reduced the quality of their stew or are now using other options... so I really don't understand the market strategy of these sellers
It's like u don't know the average Nigerian is heartless. They will rather allow it to go rotten in the market. I usually see these things. Like rotten plantains, tomatoes and peppers especially that plantain sometimes when I look at these market women I wonder if they even have human hearts anymore.

Why not grow Tomatoes at the back of your house

Yeah.

Same way you built refinery to produce oil as a cheaper commodity at the back of your house?

Of course, same way you produce oil, and gas at the back of your house? Or same way we all rare chickens that delivers eggs for consumption at the back of your house? Ediots everywhere

I hope your brain isn't wet like a typical brain wet Tinubu miscreant?

Who is buying the expensive one in the market presently?
I am sure you understand basic Economics: Low Supply + High Demand = High Pricing.

If the tomatoes will not be used or blended at once, or there is no electricity in your area to refrigerate the perishables, then it is wise to buy the fairly ripened tomatoes else it will get rotten after some days. You pick the ripe ones to be used the day you bought them, by the next day or after when ever you want to cook another, some sets would have gotten ripe and you take from it, after few days another set are already ripe, you can cook or fry your eggs with it that's how you do it till it finishes. With this, the tomatoes will last for long, while unblended and unrefrigerated..
ElevationD:
These are called toma and not tomatoes. You no see ripe ones buy there? The stew no go taste like bitter leaf?

Jokes apart, I think you made a good buy, considering the way things are. Tomatoes have become like contraband. The prices are beginning to reduce anyway.

Can you buy for us and despatch?

Correct man..You really understand so much on how one can reserve and make use of perishable farm product like tomatoes for quite number of days..To ones who don’t understand, If one will buy tomatoes in large quantity for home consumption then one have to go for much more of the unripe amidst the ripe one so as to make it stay fresh till final use.

Thank you very much for this.
With the way things are presently, that basket full of tomatoes was a great bargain.
I was actually joking with my comment in the first place.
Do enjoy your evening.

Am sure u also understand basic economics is only applicable in theory, neva been practiced in Nigeria

In Nigeria, werda supply is low or not
Werda demand is high or not, when invisible hands of the market mechanism force price to be above AC den de dnt care, Nigeria's market system is that of a monopolistic competitive system

Nothing feels good in this country right now.

If tomatoes crashes now will bread crash also?

Eheheh...hmmm...
The last time I heard advert on bread was around 1995-7.

Now, bread makers are using vehicle- mounted horn speakers to encourage ppl to buy bread.
It may seem that a fairly large no of ppl are gradually abandoning bread.

Tell me: if I want to eat bread, na ₦1200-1500 can fill my belle small. I would rather add small money and buy yellow garri.

Use pot-in-pot technique: your tomato will be fresh for 1 month.

- also, I put tomato into water. When I came back after 1 week, it was still fairly ok. You can cover it with water & change it everyday.

- get dry wood ash ( from those mamas that use firewood in cooking ( ash is colour white not charcoal o!). Put your tomatoes in the ash and cover it. Nothing will do your tomatoes.
I've tried these.many times, except for No1.

But you can Google:

I see a million profit business in this concept, imagine preserving till a basin is around 500k, it's possible o, Some months ago, 100 litre could go as much as that.
There are ways it can be preserve for like 3 months without freezing.
