Lagos is a coastal city. Just like other coastal cities around the world, it is prone to and bound to experience natural disaster, which is mainly occasioned by climate change.

If most of the expensive neighbourhoods in the island was properly planned and built by a sane government just like they did to Festac, it won't be this bad.

Asides building in water ways and blocked drainages, the ground table floor which the island was developed on is very low.

I used to tell people ,if you have money the best place to stay in Lagos are GRA Ikeja,Surulere and Festac.They are well planned unlike other parts of lagos.

Lagos state is the same level with ocean or lagoon.lekki phase 1 and 2 was develop by new town development authourity. The land was sandfilled and develop into plots of land by lagos state govermment, but the engineer or the buiider didnt follow the guideline given to a land owners one of the guide lines is your foundation must be at least 1.5 metres high before u can start your building. Did they compliant with the directives no.

This flood happens every year in lagos. Why can't LASG build a dam & channel the flood there which they will then use to generate electricity? What is so hard here

Seems you are not familiar with one or both places that you mentioned, btw, we are talking about flash flood, you don't have power over it, that's why it's classified as Act of God under disaster classification.
The current environmental planning abuse in festac isn't in anyway close to the abuse on the island

Have you stayed in Ikoyi, Lekki or Banana Island during rainy seasons?
If you haven't, don't boldly say crap. The entire Nigeria is poorly planned. Lagos is worse.
You won't understand until you live in Europe or US.
When it rains, these high borough areas flood all tge time, flood running through the streets.
