Good Evening. Here is today’s News Brief from The Matrix:

1. Mpox Cases Rise in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported a total of 39 Mpox cases across 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Bayelsa state is currently leading with the highest number of cases at 16, followed by Cross River with five, Ogun and Lagos with four each, Ondo with three, and Ebonyi with three.

2. Kenya Airports Authority Prepares for Potential Strike

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced on Friday that it has implemented contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted airport operations amidst a looming strike by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).
KAWU, representing airport and Kenya Airways employees, has declared a strike commencing on August 19th to protest a proposed partnership between the Kenyan government and India’s Adani Airports Holdings for the development of Nairobi’s primary airport.

3. Petrol Prices Drop In UK

A recent analysis reveals that petrol prices in the UK have reached their lowest point in six months.
According to the AA, the average cost of a litre of petrol this week stands at £1.43, a figure last seen in mid-February.
Diesel prices have also seen a significant drop, averaging at £147.9 per litre, a level not recorded since late January.

4. Teenager Arraigned for N340,000 Theft

An 18-year-old boy, identitfied as Oluwatosin Ananfor appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of conspiracy and theft.
Ananfor is accused of stealing properties valued at N340,000.
The police prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, alleged that the crimes occurred on July 1, 2023, at 11:45 p.m. in the Agege area of Ikeja, Lagos.

5. Three Men Deny Stealing N310,000 Worth of Items

Three men were arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly stealing items valued at N310,000.
The stolen items include a pumping machine, iron doors, iron rods with rings, and a bundle of binding wire.
The accused, Ogunjobi Gaffar (22), Sunday Odubote (25), and Micheal Akinyemi (30), pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and stealing.

6. FRSC Returns Over N1 Million to Family of Accident Victim

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FCT Sector Command has returned over N1 million and other valuables to the family of a victim who died in a fatal car accident.
Sector Commander Muta’a Chorrie commended his team for their honesty and diligence in recovering and returning the items during a press briefing on Friday.
