The members of Federal House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Constituency at the National Assembly Hon Afolabi Afuape on Monday launched a 2-day free medical outreach to residents of his constituency.

Penpushing reports that thousands of residents’ majority elderly besieged the Centenary Hall located in Ake area of Abeokuta South local government of Ogun State to benefits from the gestures, which was the initiative of the lawmaker.

The free medical services include various medical examinations such as blood pressure, eyes, tooth, blood, sugar level, diabetes, malaria and minor surgery among others, as well as provision of drugs to all those who came for the medical services

Penpushing further reports that medical personnel which include Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and Physiotherapists were engaged in the exercise which attracted large number of beneficiaries from the local government areas

The initiator of the programme which was part of constituency project in an interview with journalists the free medical outreach was a key aspect of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), stressing that health is wealth

Penpushing also reports that Afuape popularly called ‘Afoo’ emphasized his commitment to ensure the well-being of his constituents, and that he doesn’t mind if he has to spend from his personal funds, as he equally pledged to take responsibility for any additional medical expenses incurred by beneficiaries.

‘Health is very important and this is one of the goals of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). We thought that we need to look at the health status of our people and going forward, some people might need minor surgery, this is part of my constituency project to give back to my constituency’, he stated.

“If they need minor surgery I may need to spend more from my own personal money because I so much believe that once our people are healthy then all other things shall be added onto it. We don’t have a target but I’m very happy with the turnout’, Afuape added.

‘These exercises cover, malaria/typhoid, ulcer, eye, teeth, high blood pressure, diabetes, surgery (minor), first aid ambulance service (for emergency) it depends on the Doctors. If at all they discovered something that’s not part of this, they can refer that to another hospital, I can take the responsibility to pay for such person. It’s just a way of giving back to society. With this kind of turnout, I can say clearly that we may need to do this more often, it depends on the feedback,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that Rafiu Egunjobi, a beneficiary of the exercise praised the lawmaker for his initiative pointing out that many politicians forget about them after they’ve been voted in, explaining that Afuape does not belong to such category.

This outreach relief us because going to the hospital these days we have to spend a lot of money. We received different kinds of medical treatment here. We give kudos to Hon. Afuape, he has really done well. People are benefiting from different kinds of treatment here. I urged other politicians to emulate him’, Egunjobi said.

‘My advice for politicians is that they only have four years to spend in that position and if they have done well people will be happy to vote them back in that position. They should try to go back to their constituency to see what they are in need of’, he added

These people work when they want to. But the devil and greediness keeps holding them back. You try for using our money to get us a medical outreach.

We knew you for being a cool, nice and compassionate leader. We appreciate this one, but I wish to call your attention to the situation of Saje/Bodeolude, Elega Junction/Bodeolude road network. It is in a state of quagmire. The Saje axis falls within your jurisdiction at least. We pray that you use your good office to do something on this quickly to alleviate the suffering of your subjects in this area. We wish you a successful tenure and a successful future political endeavors.

Using government allocated funds to carry out community development projects is not the same as "giving back to the society," it's just doing your job.
And doing that job for 2 days in a 4yr tenure should not be worthy of praise.
Nigerians should learn to demand higher standards from their elected politicians. And until we start seeing them as our employees and not our masters, this may never happen.

As usual give the people crumbs to act like you are doing them a favor..... oga build a health center that would be more beneficial. Not this one they will just check BP and say they have done outreach

What is good and cool about this Stockholm syndrome gesture?
Why is Awolowo's state not employing nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, doctors, administrators etc to provide free basic healthcare to everyone?
What % of the representative's total package is this gabjekinsimi outreach?

Why are you not asking for the representative to reduce his salary, allowances and benefits so more doctors and other healthcare workers can earn relatively well enough to stay back in our country

Makavelli001:
🙊 During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph Stalin. He was a brutal dictator with a mind of his own.

On one fateful day, Stalin came to a Politburo meeting with a live chicken.

Standing in front of an audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one.

🚩The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but Stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely naked. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground.

🚩The naked chicken was staggering in pain. Stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & helpless creature.

🚩The poor chicken in pain started eating and Stalin started walking toward his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet.

📍Joseph Stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership.

🚩He said, "This chicken represents the people".

🚩"You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them".

🚩"If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshipping you".
🚩"They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place."

😇 Breathtaking, isn't it?

🙋‍♂ Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media.
🚩Take a look at those they call their heroes.

🚩They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is.
🚩They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments.

🚩Your guess is as good as mine. And the likes of many others, we all know about.
📍Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! 🙉

True talk .
These are the things we expect from Our National Assembly Members and the States Assembly too- to rise up to the Constituency Needs but rather, they are just sitting and Collecting Monthly- Millions Salaries and Allowances -without any feedbacks, without any Employment for the Youths, etc.
Let each one of them- tell Nigerians- what they have been using the Money for the Constituency Projects for!

What is good is that many who had no access to such healthcare had access to it and it is closer to them. Call it whatever, Nigeria won't get where you want in one day!

Why is Awolowo's state not employing nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, doctors, administrators etc to provide free basic healthcare to everyone?
The topic is not about Awolowo state nor about the employment in it. And they would of course employ those they can pay! There's no need to employ people who will end up going on strikes for more pay year in year out. The facilities should first be on ground and then the requisite funds to fund the personnel in improved optimal working conditions!

What % of the representative's total package is this gabjekinsimi outreach?
How would i calculate this? That place is close to Ake Palace and not far from Abeokuta South LG Secretariat.

Why are you not asking for the representative to reduce his salary, allowances and benefits so more doctors and other healthcare workers can earn relatively well enough to stay back in our country
I'm not a supporter of democracy. Democracy is the government of the people! So when the majority of the people are wise then the wise leads them. When the majority of the people are corrupt then corruption leads them! As for reducing salary, if you are given the hoe to make ridges would to not make it towards yourself?

Our leaders are simply a reflection of us!

I'm not a public figure and i only need to contribute to my family and community!

If every family is good the community will be peaceful. And a peaceful community will lead to a peaceful nation!

No wonder the country is in this horrible state, with citizens not knowing their rights and eulogizing horrible leaders.

You got it all with your comment.

It’s so sad that leaders make the people think that way. Legislators receive humongous allocations in the name of constituency funds and yet make the citizens believe that the funds are from their personal purses. Until citizens can understand how proper societies are run and then make their leaders accountable, they will continue to suffer in the hands of their horrible leaders.
