CCTV not only helps in capturing perpetrators, its presence deters robberies in some cases. We’ve seen and laughed at such videos here. I don’t see why business owners don’t come to the realization.

Someone is targeting me, and I don't know who it is, but it seems to be related to a shop. I recently reopened this particular shop. It is in a good location, situated beside the main road, but I had previously closed it out of frustration. The shop was burgled and all my valuable gadgets were stolen. It has not even been three months since I renovated the shop, brought in new gadgets, and reopened it, but someone has been trying to burgle it again.

Yesterday, we discovered that someone tried to break into the shop, the person also tampered with the signboard on top of the shop roof, causing it to face downwards.

Also, a man came to the shop yesterday and placed a large order for different foods and various drinks, which exceeded what was available, he said he needed it for a party. While my other staff were in the kitchen area preparing more food for him, he sent the staff who was supposed to serve the food on an errand, and she left without informing anyone, I don't know if she was under a spell or if she was just licking his feet.

When the man realized that he had successfully distracted all of them, he started pretending to be in a hurry. My sister decided to assist by putting the available food into disposable plates, and in the process, the man stole her phone and fled.

A lot has been happening lately. My staff had previously informed me that on the first day the shop was reopened, they saw a nylon bag full of poo in front of the shop and disposed of it.

My sister has been very cold and down since yesterday. Apart from the fact that the stolen phone is expensive, there are important documents on it. I tried hard to suppress my emotions, but seeing my sister in distress because of me made it impossible to hold back my tears.

She didn't even need to be in my shop yesterday. It was Monday and I needed to take foodstuffs to the shop, but I begged her to help me because I had an early morning appointment with a client at the office.

Even my car was tampered with. She parked it outside the shop in its usual location, but there were signs that someone had tried to break into it. It seems like someone is deliberately trying to frustrate me to the leave the shop.

Put a hidden a camera there now.

Get a CCTV camera or cameras...you might not be able to prevent the crime, but you can help in catching the criminals...so all these can STOP

Just to chip-in this advise:

Even before you get the CCTV installed, get an artist to paint very bold signs stating:

This Business is Monitored by 24hours CCTV!

Another one:

Smile, you are on CCTV.

It will deter people but make sure to install the cameras.

Be more physically present at your business too

This was going to be my advice but you took it out of my mouth

Install web-based CCTV and set the app on your phone to alert you of movements around when the shop is closed, ensure you enable motion sensor and the infrared setting on the CCTV. This is what I did in my situation and I found out it was a neighbour targeting me

I beg you in the name of God, hire a very very competent electrician, let him setup electric wire traps that will electrocute the burglars, that's the best way out , forget about CCTV , forget about security, forget the law, they will only eat Ur money.

My dear, you don't win by running away. Your personal instinct must have told you the source of your challenges. But if you are sure that your hands are clean, just be steadfast. Improve the burglary proves in the shop. Don't park your car where people can't easily sight it. You can also get a local security if you can afford one. I bet you, they will soon be caught and you will laugh last. Good luck and don't let this take you to wrong places.

Cleverly install a CCTV. Defend your business. The way you are sounding, you are almost captured. Librate yourself and defend that business. I doubt if you are clever and courageous though

The phone event is totally different from the other issue of breaking into the shop, and the phone can be recovered if u want. If u want the phone back, just take the pack of the phone to any police station and make a report they will request for the pack where they will get the ime number and that will be it, ur phone will come back just that police will milk the buyer like something else. Also be careful next time, that is the format those boys use, they will distract u with multiple task and u will forget urself.

Regarding the poo and other issues, they want to force u to leave that place, meaning it is a good location. So put ur feet on ground and fight back, get local vigilante to work with u in the evening till morning at least for some time. No territory that is free, so fight back, they will leave you

Op buy gun, hide around your shop in the night, they usually operate when there is heavy rain, If you catch the thief, shoot am. Wake him up and shoot am again. They deserve no pity, somebody will not go and work but to lay in wait for another person's sweat.

It is a good thing the phone can be recovered; I hope they also find it unwiped. Thank you so much for this information. This time, I didn't even bother informing the police about the incident because I had previously reported the burglary at my shop, but there wasn't much they could do; they just took statements and interrogated my staff.

Guys, thanks so much for the advice and encouragement, they have been really helpful. I just wasn't myself after I heard about the incidents; I was, in fact, a mummy's girl. I just needed to run into someone's arms and cry, but I couldn't. I had been taking it in, and I had had enough.

For real, forums like Nairaland should be appreciated. Sometimes, all people need is to share their pain and experiences, and they would feel better.
