and so?! i dont get where the problem is.
if someone offers you a job, if you dont want it, you say no and jejely walk the fukc out... but dont pretend that because children pay 200k for school fees, you can dictate how much you deserve as a teacher in that school. thats what the school is offering, take it or leave it! so you mean that if they were schooling for free, then you would also work for free?!

stop looking at other people's finances... in order to try to lift yourself up, as you dont know what they spend that money on:
- are you paying the rent for the building?
- are you paying the electricity/equipment used in that school?
- are you paying for the free food that these kids possibly get?
- are you paying for all the extracurricular outings and activities that these children learn?
- are you paying the salary of all the other staff and owners of that school?

Na then br this, monkey dey work babbon dey chop system for Nigeria...if this is how the system is abroad our people for no dey troop in drove there...we have a very weak labour and employment system in Africa

You don't get it. You hire cheap labour for client (parents) who pays hefty fees. They will give them 50K education.

Someone pays you about 300K for their child and you hired 50K labour to get the job done. The students will get 50K education. You don't see the problem here?

Quality teachers won't accept 50K so the school settles for lesser quality sad

How qualified is she? How good a teacher is she? Are the other teachers paid the same? ..or paid according to qualification and experience? Maybe she is the lowest level teacher ... an assistant ... unprofessional with high expectations. Her reasoning is not sound... maybe they recognized this and chased her with the desperado salary. If she were a good teacher ... and planner ... she should've accepted the job ... take the opportunity to make an impact on the students ... start private lessons to compliment the salary ... let the students show good grades at the exam ... then resign and do lessons only? Why wouldn't parents send their kids to her?....and pay handsomely? Too many of us are programmed to be employees ....never looking or taking the opportunity to have our own businesses

lol free food ke? Them dey pay a whooping 200 and something thousand and you said free food .please stop justifying exploitative behavior. Meanwhile the president has set minimum wage to be 70k naira.anybody who flouts the law should be prosecuted according to the law.

We can do better as Nigerians. Let's stop this exploitative behavior and treat each other in fairness. How can someone work and you pay the person 55k? Doesn't she have her own bills to pay ? An elitist school o not even a government school. Gosh! A teacher deserves the best salary in nigeria. It's not fair.how can you be saying she should accept poverty wages? Money that some men give their side chic as payment for sex for one night na him una wan give teacher. Make una dey fear God

Irrespective of all these facilities, you will find out that it's still all useless without an efficient Teacher. Workers should be paid reasonable wages. A class of may be 20 Students paying N297,000/term is N5,940,000/term and their teacher is paid just 165,000 for the term, if it's 3months is just too paltry about 2.7%.

School of 294k...

ELECTRICITY;
Give and take , they would spend PATA PATA 700-800k on NEPA bill monthly.
I've worked in a hotel , constant light...we were paying NEPA 500k every month.

I don't see how a school that doesn't operate at night should pay higher self.

SECURITY;
A school that is willing to pay it teachers 55k...how much do you think that smelling school will pay security workers...

They would not even spend more than 35k each .. probably just 3 guards.

TAX;
This is Nigeria, Many businesses and people evade tax...take it or leave it...they are either paying little or nothing.

WATER;
Don't be Stupid , even on my street , one man just opened like a tank for free water for people to fetch and do whatever they like...he's not even a wealthy man...just every day guy...what I'm saying is WATER is no big deal... How much water the children wan consume.

FUNDING & MAINTENANCE;
Listen and listen good... A beautiful and good looking school without it teachers giving dia best is nothing... Maintenance should go to the welfare of teachers for christ sake... Without them, the school is rubbish.

You just laid out the problem in Nigeria: it is not the school business but the government's failure to generate the relevant tax to cushion the effect on business owners.

To build a business in Nigeria, you must be your government ( providing healthcare, security, water, electricity etc.) with funds that could have been diverted to increase workers' pay.

The school owners create jobs and survive in an unproductive and underdeveloped environment.

In summary, most Nigerians don't appreciate non criminal effort or service work.

The igbo society will be more mature than that. So, all igbos need to leave those bad habits in Nigeria, before crossing over to the African glory, the great Igbo nation. Fairness, humanely strict with crime, globally mature, and very progressive and affordable society.

He made good points, in my opinion. His points created a conversation and others are adding more insight with better points.
For those who have run real businesses, electricity cost alone is a major headache and killer. Employers should be more open in showing their employees the financial reports. Also, the capital for the business did not drop from the moon. Many business owners have huge loans to pay back and the interest rate is no joke.

olaniyilukman:
bro, you don't have a point at all and you sound like you are one the school owner that exploits your employees and you are enjoying all these simply because we have a weak labor law...

Teaching jobs in Nigeria are nothing but slavery. Even if the students are paying up to 1m, your salary might not be up to 150k.
