They are just thieves. Th current IGP is doing everything possible to turn the police force into a revenue generating agency which they are not.

All of these is just for them to extort ₦5,000 from the driving public all in the name of E-CMR. By law their job cuts across safeguarding lives and properties. They don't need to extort ₦5,000 annually from us before they do their jobs.

This is a very welcome development.

No need asking for unnecessary papers. Once the vehicle is not reported stolen and the driver can properly identify his/herself, no need for delays.

This should however extend to security agents wearing bodycams on duty. No stop and search or raids should be conducted without being recorded.

Also, there should be CCCTvs in every office of all security agencies. Everything must be recorded except when using the privacies.

The e-CMR debate

The police Central Motor Registry (CMR) has always existed.

However, the Inspector General of Police announced that they were going to digitise the registry and create an electronic central motor registry information system.

He said that policemen would no longer need to stop motorists to demand for their papers because they would be able to access the registry from the computers in their patrol cars and determine if a vehicle is registered, if it has been stolen, etc. People whose cars have been stolen only need to inform the police and the cars would be flagged on the system and the patrol officers would be able to determine that the cars have been stolen simply by checking their in-car computer.

The police set a deadline for motorists to register for the e-CMR.

However, many activists, including the Nigerian Bar Association condemned the system. They said that the law does not permit the police to register vehicles and that the police was taking over the powers of other government agencies. They also condemned the fee that motorists would have to pay to register for the e-CMR (around ₦5,000 to ₦6,000) . They said that Nigerians are going through a lot and the police should not add to their burden. They threatened to sue the police if it forces motorists to have the e-CMR.

The Inspector General of Police subsequently suspended the enforcement of the e-CMR and said that they were going to use the time to sensitise stakeholders on the need for the e-CMR. He said that the law permits the police to develop strategies to combat crime and that it was not true that the e-CMR was illegal.

Note: It was only the enforcement of the e-CMR that was postponed/suspended. Motorists are still registering on the system.
We are 30 years behind other parts of the world.

This is a good invention but where is the database required for it to run off?

These things cannot be wished into existence.

1) Hhmm Nigeria police with money matter grin
2) Why should it be renew with 5K every year? This is just a target for revenue generation.

3) What are they going to be using the moneys collected from millions of vehicles owners in Nigeria for? Hheemm

4) Them done open office for Nigerians head

5) Federal government should immediately find a way to make sure the money goes to FIRS, or else what would hapen to those money would surprise FG and the citizenship, allowing such organizations to be collecting revenue is dangerous.

6) For example, the money they have been collecting for bail, what happened?

Good development if its used wisely

Please how is this revenue mobilisation from the already overwhelmed masses, when it won’t result in additional and better services from the government, a good development

Is this not how Tinubu’s master plan works, such that Lagos is a glorified ghetto in the midst of global cities? A city/state where ordinary tap water and sanitation is not available for every building.

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

Boss any sane person will think the same but it's a pity most of those black uniform wearing personnel on our road prefer to find the least fault on motorist than to do their job just because they want to collect as low as 200 naira as bribe.

Why putting a whole laptop in the car? A small device with embedded system will do. Or, a 7 inch tablet connected to the database will conveniently do the job. It will be handy, saves power, and be sustainable.

Would've been a good development... But it won't change anything.

Most of them harass innocent Nigerians for dressing good and driving nice cars....And not to confirm if you're documents are intact or not.
