MT: I didn't cite just ONE family. I said many families. My town union in the USA had a National Convention around 1999 or so. I personally counted 400 ADULT MALES that cast votes in the election. The vast majority of them didn't come to the USA with any exceptional skills. They're all generally middle class, I'm not even counting the exceptionally rich. When I landed in the USA, I was among a cohort of around 20 to 30 young people from many different Nigerian tribes and I was the youngest. We mostly all started from around zero. Most of us started remitting money to Nigeria within 2 or 3 months. Some went to university, some continued to work menial or low skill jobs. Some founded businesses. Some got deported, some ended up in prison, but the vast majority, over 70%, are living the regular middle class or upper middle class life. Some of them are millionaire doctors and lawyers today. All my nuclear family has emigrated to the USA over a period of 15 years, ALL my siblings live middle class or upper middle class lives. All the above gives me good reliable data to make reasonable conclusions. I'm a real person, this is my name. Anyone can look up and glean the evidence. There's nothing I'm writing that is out of the norm. So what is the quality of life of YOUR cohort still living in Nigeria? Good Luck to Nigerians. 9 Likes 1 Share |

phorget:Where will 21m get your family to outside? Processing visa and flight tickets alone don nearly chop that money. Cash them go use sustain themselves for minimum of 6 months nko? Abi you want make them de homeless abroad? Even you too, what will 5m do? It is money no doubt but with what apc +, t pain has done to the naira, 5m wount take you far, heck a 2003 corola is over 8m. |

phorget: It seems you underestimate how useless the naira is. It will cost close to 30mil or a little above it to relocate a wife and two kids. That is if you want your wife to have a good job over there. |

Godwin4444:a young man posted here that he use to give his wife 500k every month and his wife is complaining that is not enough he should increase it and people here are supporting his wife that 500k cannot do anything in this period that he should increase it, and believe me most of this people saying this have not seen 1m in their account before! 2 Likes |

IbeOkehie: I will always get surprised why you made a conclusion on the examples you cited here. National statistics does not work that way. Yes you cited examples that are personal to you, which cannot be verified - that cannot be used as a yardstick in this discourse. You said you started sending money home after 2 months of landing in the US, virtually everyone that travels abroad do this. That is not a measure that you are okay. Most folks from Nigeria do that in order to send a message that they have "arrived" while slaving away. How many of them can even embark on major projects in Nigeria?. Do not get me wrong, I am not arguing that people are not doing well abroad but we should stop the generalisation and over exaggeration. To each one his own. Individual's circumstances differ, and so it will be wrong to be egging people's on based on a personal experience alone. And why comparing US to Nigeria. They are not in the same pedestal. US is a developed country, Nigeria is a developing country. Opportunities are more in the US but not in the way people exaggerate it here. And those opportunities are limited to some set of people. And more so, you never clarified what you earlier stated that Nigeria is a SOCIALIST country, which explains why Nigeria is a poor country, according to you. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

It may not reach 2 years in Nigeria, But it'll also not reach 8 months in Europe. No better place to stay, build and enjoy money than in Nigeria if you know what you are doing |

Paycheck to paycheck, you are very correct on this one. You forgot to add that they enjoy social amenities and a good/working environment. This one is the most priority. You are living rich in Nigeria with insecurities around your riches. You are poor! MT: 1 Like 1 Share |

What about Nigeria that you work all your life and still cant attain basic amenities! Atleast in abroad, you are certain of a good life, if you work hard. MT: |
Re: If Given 26 Million Naira; Stay Or Japa by MT: 2:32pm On Oct 15 |
Love800: You are correct on good/working environment. The same "social amenities" you came online to cry over; same things that you say make you live below poverty line due to how much you pay for bills. Are there not people living in darkness due to the fact that they cannot afford electricity bills? Are there no more homeless in your "paradise" ? Are there not poor people who live on handouts ? Are there not unemployment? I will expect your new "paradise" will be absolutely perfect. And let me let you know, I enjoy the two worlds. The foreign passports that you are chasing, I have 2 in different western countries; these are countries you will kill for to obtain just 1. That wont stop me from telling others the reality. Abroad is a step up for some and step down for some. Evaluate and choose carefully is all I preach here. So, Rich boy, what have you accomplished in all your waka waka across the world? And are you saying all western countries are safer than Nigeria, US especially comes to mind. |
Re: If Given 26 Million Naira; Stay Or Japa by cococandy(f): 2:35pm On Oct 15 |
Most Nigerian migrant families in the USA are middle class. What are you talking about? And if both partners work, then they are most likely upper middle class. Realistically inflation makes it such that $100k isn’t what it used to be 10 years ago. Still any family making over $150k a year is comfortably middle class. And that’s less than what two professionals make together in year. Pls stop discouraging people MT: 5 Likes 1 Share

Love800: Your "work hard" is mostly slaving. A second hand citizen in a foreign land. Whatever you enjoy over there, I provide for myself in Nigeria at a relatively cheaper cost. And I am still relevant over there. Stop talking down your own country, it is a form of insanity. 1 Like |

cococandy:# You are upending the discourse. One, when we say "abroad", it does not have to be the US alone. Two, you have not shown with proof how many Nigerian family (husband plus wife) makes over 150k USD per annum. The data you referenced is relevant to a 3-member household - a father, a mum and a child. You need to consider that too. In IT, if you are skilled, a single individual actually makes over 120 USD per annum but how many people fall into that class. Yes there are professionals making money. I am not arguing that but holistically speaking how many people make it? I am not discouraging anyone - either you go abroad or not, it does not affect me in anyway. I am only saying, evaluate your current situation carefully and make an INFORMED decision. How does that translate to discouraging people? If you accuse me of discouraging others, I will accuse you of over exaggeration. 1 Like |
