Because military rule is unitary doesn't mean the person that enacted such unification law is not primarily responsible for the abolishment . Enough with the propaganda . 4 Likes |

Mindlog: Aguiyi Ironsi's decree 34 abolished the regional system in Nigeria. The military government is not, by definition, unitary, but Ironsi abolished the regional system because he believed that the regions were not loyal to the Nigerian constitution. Gowon exacerbated the problem of the unitary state, but the fault lies with Aguiyi Ironsi's Decree 34 6 Likes |

The land Africa may be asking God why he put the black race on its land The Berlin conference is still a problem for Africa over 100 years after it was convened? We have had democracies, monarchies, military govts since the exit of colonialism and till now we cannot adequately define our nationhood as Africans and evolve a governance model or political system that near perfectly meets our needs. The author is right. But do we have great political thinkers who can fashion a governance strategy that will ensure that each ethnic nationality is given a chance at self-governance and representation at the national table? I can boldly say that apart from the SE and SW, no other region is ethnically homogenous. That is why there is so much tribal agitation and our politics has followed that line which has led to the kind of transactional governance we have. There is a need to find a model that will ensure that at least 60% of the ethnic nationalities are represented in government to a reasonable level. The system is not working 4 Likes |

AcuraZDX: This Quisling has the IPOB propagandists masturbating with glee on this thread. One thing is clear (no matter the number of traitors and Quislings you invite to your IPOB forum to pander to your whims and caprices). Ironsi abolished the regions after the Ibo military arm carried out a lopsided coup on January 15th 1966 through his tribalistic Decree number 34. Secondly Quislings never end well. They are used, dumped and can even lose their lives if they are not careful. Colonel Victor Banjo is the yard stick by which Quislings are measured. I have no RIP to waste on any Quisling who decides to sell out his own people and white wash history for reasons best known to himself alone. 8 Likes |

That's how this stupid nation is, even in the so called history, they rewrite what isn't okay just to paint Easterners bad. Wetin God go judge from this nation plenty pass whites dem. What's their gain now painting the very best Military head of state bad. AcuraZDX: It's only those who don't use their heads to think will fall for any thing looking meaningful to be taken serious with thought. I guess this is a counter to that which Reno wrote. Of what use is regional government now and why would anyone be talking about who is to be blamed? Imagine a State like Kwara that was part of the Northern region. Then 1967 it became West Central State and then 1976 it was renamed Kwara State then 1990 it was further split into Kogi and Niger States. Imagine how these individual States still remain undeveloped even though they enjoy autonomy, how much more of they remain the old way of Regionals. Let's also see the Old Eastern Region comprising of Old Rivers State out of which Bayelsa State was cut out and the 5 Igbo speaking States. Imagine the level of underdevelopment that some of these States are as single units ,how much more if they remain the old ways. All those who are speaking about the return of the Regional government don't really have any good intention. They are just like those who think going back to the old national anthem will change anything in the nation. |

Mindlog: Don't you know Reno is an instigator, fanning the embers of disunity? His hatred on the ethnic group called Igbo's has reduced him to a perpetual wanderer. He will never find peace. Forever he will be glancing over his shoulders anywhere he senses an Igbo man because Igbo's are everywhere. meanwhile no one is pursuing him. 6 Likes 1 Share |

twosquare: Don't mind them. We know very well who declared the draconian decree 34 and the reasons behind it. One Dele Ologun that wasn't born then cannot rewite the history now. Obasanjo was the 1st president to rule based on the current Nigerian constitution, but you cannot tell us now that Obj is the author of it. 4 Likes 1 Share |
