Titles For Our Leaders In The Church by SanEmma: 10:15pm On Dec 13, 2011 |
Pls NLanders, We call Paul "Paul", Peter "Peter", John "John". we even call Jesus "Jesus". Throughout the new testament, titles were not attached to followers of Christ. Why do we give titles (Reverend, Pastor, Bishop)to people we call men of God today? |

Jesus was called teacher, master ,rabbi etc. Paul and others were called apostles, prophets and evangelist. But I don't know the relevance of "reverend" |

@Joagbaje Thank u. even the apostles where not in anywhere addressed as "Apostle Paul/John/Peter/Papa/Father". what i see is"Paul, the apostle" not "Apostle Paul". Why do we call this men of God with several titles attached before there names. |

your so correct.,,,,,,d apostles were called by there names straight, or they were called brother paul, brother peter, why?, because Jesus forbade them from acquirin titles for themselves, they were not be called by d offices they served in, becos 1 is a bishop doesnt mean he has to be called bishop{name}, or to be called pastor{name}, or reverend, the worst is even used today, all d general overseers of there churches are called DADDY or PAPA, some r called most reverend father, Clergyman: “Reverend.” Anglican bishop: “Right Reverend the Lord Bishop.” Roman Catholic bishop (in Italy): “His Excellency, the Most Illustrious and Most Reverend Monsignor.” Cardinal: “His Eminence.” The pope: “Most Holy Father.” In the King James Version, the term “reverend” appears only once, at Psalm 111:9, which says: “Holy and reverend is his name.” Whose name? The next verse says: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” (Psalm 111:10 , and here today we hav humans assumin titles belongin to only God, when will professed christians start callin there pastors brother adeboye, brother oyedepo, brother oyhakilome in obedience to Jesus words @ matthew chapter 23 verses 8 to 10, even Jesus refused to be called by the title Daddy becos he knew that title belongs ony to his Father, so who d hell are these pastors today enjoyin those titles rightly belongin to almighty God, |

Titles may be important, but the truth is that, it will not take anybody to heaven. Jesus said: many will come on that day, saying, In your name, we cast out devil, we healed the sick, we did many miracles, then Jesus will reply them, i never knew you. This is one of the most fearful statement from Jesus, i never knew you. This is a call for humility and brokeness. May God help us. God2man. |

It's true that ministry is not in titles but a responsibility . Many have left the responsibility to pursue or dwell on titles thinking the anointing works by such. |
