How will 2.2billion dollars be enough when shared amongst them it will not reach them all? They should borrow more so that they can loot and have more left for their unborn generations.

Honestly, anyone that takes this advice from Jimoh Ibrahim ,( a man who could not manage business he took over almost for free ) should have himself or herself to blame.

He is 100% correct but Nigerians are ignorant despite their education and have a negative association with debt.

All this $20b a year budget will never take us anywhere.

As individuals we borrow to start businesses and build houses but somehow we think it is bad for a country to borrow to develop to create wealth and job creating infrastructure which if properly deployed will pay for itself.

You are right to an extent. There is nothing wrong with borrowing. The problem is that those money will end up embezzled by the same people that borrowed them.
There is also no iota or sense of accountability.
People don't ask questions. When they do, they are promptly pulled down with ethnic coloration.

The solution is to make sure any borrowing is policed and consequences for diversion. The one thing for sure, we are going nowhere with our $20-30b a year budget. Where it takes 10yrs to build a 100km road because there is no money.

How have you managed the previous loans?

So because cars have accidents people should not enter them again.

Your problem should be on how to find out what is causing the accidents not stopping people from entering it

Jimoh Ibrahim, the self-acclaimed economist never ceases to annoy people. This is a man who could not manage his business but found solace in politics, now spewing arrant nonsense.

Is this (dis)honourable not aware that excessive levels of foreign debt can hamper a country's ability to invest in their economic future? Either via infrastructure, education, or healthcare; as the country's limited revenue now goes to servicing such loans and automatically thwarts long-term economic growth?

Mr. Jimoh does not know anything about economics and should stop defending the Executive arm of govt and solely be saddled with legislation and their pocket-stuffing oversight functions.

Nigerians are not timid

Re: "$2.2billion Loan Is ‘lunch Money, Govt Should Borrow More" Senator Jimoh by Kukutente23: 2:08pm On Nov 20, 2024
I actually watched the interview and two things crossed my mind
First, Senator Jimoh has a point when he talks about borrowing massively to fund production in the economy. Unfortunately he's in the wrong choir. The candidate who showed genuine interest to do that was Atiku who talked about raising $10bn to fund SMEs. APC has characteristically been a party that borrows to run govt and that is principally because of their loose fiscal policies. They now have the largest cabinet in this country's history. Tinubu does not have any direction or vision he's focused on to bring the economy back to life. He's just going through motions. So even if he were to borrow $100bn, I can assure you in two years there'll be nothing on ground to support the money. So who in their right senses will borrown Nigeria $50bn as it is presently run?

Secondly, unfortunately, he was making that argument to defend borrowing and not because he was really convinced about borrowing massively to fund development. That is why he started making offpoint comparisons between Nigeria, UK and US. He knows the borrowing is not for any developmental agenda but to run govt. So he's simply playing the devil's advocate. This is what happens when one chooses to be a sycophant

The senility and callosity of the senator attempt to confer validity on the theory of evolution which I could have accepted if I were not a convinced Christian. It seems the disruptive Nigerian leaders, though with the appropriate physical morphology, are still evolving and yet to attain the realm of human beings. For a fact, many Nigerian rulers have devalued themselves to the level of apes! What a disservice to God Almighty who created us human beings!
