Wike Inspects Road Projects In Gwagwalada Area Council by Dannupawa: 10:38pm On Nov 21, 2024
....SAYS GOVERNMENT MUST BRING DEVELOPMENT TO RESIDENTS

1. FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has said that the government was duty-bound to bring development to the people.

2. The Minister stated this on Thursday, November 21, 2024 when he inspected ongoing two road projects in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

3. Projects inspected were the rehabilitation of the 11km Aguma Palace/Radio Nigeria/New Market road and the 9km Paikon Kore/Ibwa road within the area council.

4. Addressing journalists shortly after the inspection exercise, Barr. Wike stressed that the impact of government can only be felt when it reaches all areas and all the people.

5. He said, “You can’t talk about good governance or the impact of government without touching all areas, be it in the city or the satellite towns which you will refer to as rural areas. As such, it is the responsibility of every government. And you know under the Renewed Hope Agenda, this is the promise the President has made, to rekindle the hope of everybody.

6. “Yes, things were bad yesterday, but we are trying to improve to make sure that things don’t get worse”.

7. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on both road projects and commended the contractors handling them.

8. Commenting on the crowd of residents that gathered at both sites to show appreciation to the Minister and his team, the Minister said that the people can now see that the current government is working to change their lives for the better and they are happy.

9. He said, “Yes, the residents have trooped out because nobody sees good things and will not appreciate it. People were complaining before because they never had any impact on the government but now they can feel, they can see that indeed there is a government that is working to change their lives in a positive way”.

10. While assuring residents that all the roads will delivered with streetlights, the Minister said the most important part of the projects was their completion by December, 2024, to enable farmers in the rural areas access their farms and bring their produce to the city, thereby ensuring food security.

11. He added that the construction of roads in the rural area was a strategy of the government to bring down the cost of food items and urged residents to continue to support the government and be patient as things will improve for the better.

12. The Minister assured that before the end of the first tenure of the present administration, the spate of development will speak for itself, that this administration has come to give hope to the people.

13. He said, “Infrastructure is basic to turn around any economy in any part of the world. If you don’t have basic infrastructure, too bad. That is part of the problems we have had in Abuja and we are trying to create more infrastructure to open up, not just the city but the rural area so that the economy of Abuja will thrive”.

14. On the involvement of the Area Council Chairmen in the infrastructure development in the rural area, the Minister said the FCT Administration is working together with the chairmen, adding that the Chairmen were also doing their best with the funds available to them.

15. The Minister said, “Don’t expect them to carry out this kind of magnitude of project because they don’t have that kind of resources. But the mere fact that they are giving us the support to carry out this project without any protest.

16. “You know sometimes you may be carrying out the project and the community and the Chairmen may not be in support, they will begin to sabotage it…we have never had such..so it means they have fully bought into the project and own it as their own and that is why we are succeeding. So, they are really doing well”.

The road needs drainage and other auxiliary routes. That's too long of a stretch without adjacent roads. If criminals block the main highway, o ti lo. If there are issues that need repairs, what will be the alternate option or options...maybe they want to sell the lands there so estates can develop along the main road and create auxiliary routes. We need to do better planning.

Lagos-Ibadan has been congested, and there are no alternate roads even for short maintenance work. We need to do better and introduce tolls. Let private companies build faster routes and toll them, allowing others to use the longer free routes. Pick your choice.

I feel you but I think you should also understand that it appears to be a virgin land. There won’t be a need for an alternative if the main road doesn’t exist.

This new road will bring about development and just like you said, it should be mapped out already so that it’s all done according to plan and there’s orderliness.

The road is a good step. We can only hope there’s a solid plan for the area and in the case where there’s none, we hope they create one that works with the current design of the road.

Virgin lands are the best lands to do proper planning. You can create great main roads and auxiliary routes, then charge those interested in the lands a premium amount. You build all to specifications and make them well connected. This is one of the reasons why we are not productive. How can people be in traffic for hours day in day out? If we can connect easily, and create alternate routes, we can keep moving.

Do well connected roads, put solar and encourage solar commercial on buildings...and people can work 24 hours a day.

Wike is doing well in the FCT.

The critics would soon start looking for something else to criticize about his achievements.

The demolitions were just the beginning

This is a great development. Road construction in the rural areas will help to open up the areas, boost agriculture and bring down the cost of food.
May God bless Nigeria for ever!

In a way it is from his pocket.
He simply could have stolen the money, others did and nothing happened.

Secondly it's just today Friday we heard of the comparison of a road he built in Rivers through Julius Berger vs another road contract just awarded in Edo and one In Bauchi.

Where Wike spent N1 on a stretch of road, Edo and Bauchi are spending like lie x 3 and x 6 for the same stretch of road. Meaning in some states, aside from not even finishing the roads, they are massively inflating the costs.

A good observations.
Let the various governments - take necessary steps in the critical Areas of -Observations.e.g drainage is important in all roads construction 🚧.
- Maintenance of Roads are Critical- year in and out- to enable the Roads to last longer.
- All Roads MUST have Alternative Exit - to enable adjacent movement.

When a project don't have accurate details of its lifespan, maintenance, cost, economic benefit...it's white elephant project.

We've grown past the period of just pictures without accountability. The earlier Nigerians wake up and disregard media hype the better to get answers

Drainages on a flat open terrain with no population density on the stretch......it's a rural road which connects several rural areas and projected traffic isn't expected to be high at least for now......why build alternative route same time you are building perhaps the first road in that axis which will all know shouldn't exceed 20-30% capacity......about terrorism, the terrain is flat and too close to the seat of power for such an operation to be successful, this isn't borno that is too far flung with so much ungoverned spaces.
