We have seen how the same Tinubu who said he doesn't believe in one Nigeria becoming the president of the same ONE Nigeria. If by crook and crude he was denied being the legitimate winner of the last election. I bet, Tinubu would have become the number one supporter of Sunday Igboho.

Same applies to Igbos let's not even talk about Ojukwu's selfish ambition of a Biafra that cost the lives of Igbos who are still blind till today, same Ojukwu contested to become president of the same Nigeria he claimed not to believe in. Mind you his wife Bianca is currently a minister in Tinubu's administration which she is so proud of being a part of the Nigerian Government and not being anti-Nigeria, an advocate of Biafra which her husband led his people to the slaughter for his own selfish interest.

Or should we talk about the pro Biafrans who suddenly became pro Nigerians, ? All because a fellow Igbo man by the name Peter Obi who was contesting to become president of same Nigeria they call a Zoo?

The same core North, Kano State recently had posters of Good luck Jonathan flying around. Of course he is not a Muslim and neither from the North.

The northerners' stance on this tax reform bill reminds of my grandma.

She raised me from one year old.

She brought me up with 'agbo', 'agunmu', 'epa ijebu', 'ogun ile tutu' and so on... All na bitters!

Mama never give me anything sweet unless we eating food proper!

Heaven was let loose on a faithful day mama wanted to give me honey to lick after I sustained one injury in the leg after riding bicycle with stolen money!

Omoh, I no gree collect that thing ooo...

It took 4 hefty men to hold me, they persuaded me that it was sweet and not the usual bitters.

I no still gree...

They tried until they successfully overpowered me, behold!
A drop of honey entered my tongue!

Guy man body calm down immediately...πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

I was ashamed of myself. Everyone started laughing at me.

Lesson: It was hard for me to believe that grandma will ever give me anything sweet.

Finally, I searched the whole house the next morning until I discovered where mama kept the honey container!

Guess what?

..........

Also, as beneficial as the tax reform bill would be to the northerners, they won't be so quick to accept it. They will be thinking it was intended to shortchange them as a people.

Let's continue to educate and orientate them until they will agree.

After all we can't find any 4 hefty interventions to force the reform in their throat! πŸ˜πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜„

Ire ooo....
If the northerner's can't study the Bill, and then waiting to be educated, then what do you call laziness?

The parasites should be left behind to their illiteracy

The reason we call you parasites is not because you farm but because despite your agriculture output your people have the poorest population that can't feed themselves and more than 70 percent of your agricultural produce are transported to the modernised Southern region. You have nothing tangible to offer other than ISLAMISM and BACKWARDNESS. The South has better option for buying their foodstuff, Benin Republic, Cameroon, CΓ΄te d'Ivoire etc, but your elites don't want us to buy from them. They restrict every effort of importing food from those our neighbours because it'll hurt you for you don't even have the CONSUMER MARKET to buy all your agricultural produce. The only thing you contribute to the union of this country is your population and "chopping" of Southern wealth.
Thanks the guy doesn't know that. "We grow the food that feed you" line is already stale and DOA

Do not generalize. That is the mistake being made. North north north north...name names. In the north they have so many dialects, languages, they are not all Muslims, Hausa is not their language and they have different tribes so many. Some clowns will come out toake themselves important and divide the country further by saying north says this...which north...who in the north? Mention the names of the governors or northern man or woman making himself important or trying to cause problems. Is Nnamdi kanu the East? No, no 1 man can speak for the east or a group. Do not be deceived

dullard....I am also a northerner like u... I am I. Support of the vat ..

This vat reform will stop insecurity in the North....

Northern governors will sit-up and fight insecurity...

Read this explanation below ...written by fellow Nairalander

From what I know of the bill, let me give you my own explanation.

VAT is tax paid on finished goods/services that reach the final consumer (e.g. turkey eventually consumed, hotel bills eventually settled, construction materials eventually used), it is based on 15% of retail price. Some add it to the price that final consumers are to see and so on. Final consumers then pay the retail price plus that tax.

Normally, this tax is to be remitted by the retailer. However, in Nigeria, because of some acute lack of organization in its part, it is even remitted by the manufacturers/distributors. And because of that, VAT is remitted by Lagos State (hq of the manufacturer) instead of in the various states in Nigeria and by the retailers.

FG wants to better organize the VAT taxing structure, and at that, wouldn't be collected by FIRS (FG tax collector), but by each state's IRS (each state's tax collectors) instead.

And further, rather than FG pooling the VAT tax revenue, and then sharing it to the states using the FAAC sharing formula, FG says the states having collected it by themselves would then take 85% of it and give the FG 15%. This is equitable, right? In almost all countries of the world, sales tax is the state's responsibility.

The North opposes it for these:
If your state's people are poor, and do not consume plenty things, or expensive items, or luxurious items, your state's VAT revenue would be low.
Also, if your state's tax collection is inefficient or sharia no tax-bound, your state's VAT revenue would be low.

So, the North believes that their people consume poorly and their VAT would be low compared to if Lagos State or River state share theirs with them for example.
Also, they don't collect taxes, except maybe Kano, and even so, little compared to other ever-tax-ready states of the South, so they believe their revenue would be low compared to if the inefficient VAT'ing system still sticks.

The FG continues to say that, no, eventually, there'd be benefits to those Northern states inasmuch as they encourage productivity and developments in their states, and in which increases incomes and increase consumption, hence high VAT revenue, but apparently, that seems like death sentence to some of those state's governor.

With the above, I hope I have been able to explain the tax reform bill, in the simplest way.

And PS: states like Ekiti state in South may also be badly affected by it, and that's the point, each state's government should also work on developments from the grassroot in order for them to reap high state revenues.

In respect to what you think, this Reform is done in bad faith, filled with half truths and other stuffs a Govt of propaganda is wont to do....

The devil is in the details..... Go read the full Bill. You will quickly realized it's full of bullshit.

If anyone, let alone Asiwaju is serious about reforming taxes in Nigeria, VAT must not be centralized, and conglomerates with nationwide spread must not be allowed to remittances from their HQ which for obvious reasons will be from Lagos or Ogun.

Companies like Coca cola whose income come from all over Nigeria should remit VAT state by state ditto alcohol companies.

Then, Agriculture & Shipping should also be reformed too. States should be allowed to to pass export tax on all produces moving to other states. Should Asiwaju over looked other sectors because it doesn't favor him, his state or region?

No be advantage we wan take of others, let everyone be taking advantage of everyone let's see how far the country will survive.

Raph82:
The tax reform bill is different from what u claim Buhari wanted to do. Zero tax for Nigerians earning below 800k to 1m per annum, and many Nigerians fall into this category, so how is the poor taxed? I think NOA needs to orientate nigerians fully on this subject matter in all the regions in the dialect of each region. Local language of each locality should be used in explaining.

Nigeria should remit vat state by state, isn't that what this reform is all about? Each state should be remitting vat based on value-added products consumed, keep 85% and remit 15% to the federal pause. Most of agric products produced in the North like beans, groundnut, maize, foodstuffs generally are sent out to other states from the North without adding any value to it. Besides, the northerners are not taxed on the basis of religion, yet they want vat money at the expense of other hardworking states. This is more of a parasitic arrangement if u may ask me. This tax reform bill will make other states like Osun, Ekiti and the northern states sit tight and think out of the box. Since this reform uproar, Ekiti has been brainstorming all along, because they know that this will affect them.
