NO matter how often Nigerian politicians parrot the word “democracy”, only a few are true democrats. Monday’s melodrama at the Lagos State House of Assembly proves this. That day, Mojisola Meranda’s 49-day reign as speaker ended abruptly. Mudashiru Obasa, impeached on January 13, returned to the seat.https://punchng.com/as-obasa-returns-to-lagos-assembly/ 7 Likes

The APC has successfully killed democracy in Nigeria. Infact we don't even have a system of government currently Cos there has never been a time where opposition have been victimized as this Even oppositions from their own party are not spared. 28 Likes 2 Shares |

Frustratingly, egalitarianism and fairness are practised in the breach across the country. Speakers are imposed and impeached by forces outside the electorate and legislature. This is tantamount to state capture and political rascality. This is not a new thing in 🇳🇬 Nigeria, but it seems the unnecessary publicity surrounding this matter is simply because it evolves in Lagos & the Bourdillon 5 Likes 1 Share |

![]() So much for a “sophisticated” people. What we practice in Lagos is not democracy. A one party state and assembly is not democratic. What do we expect when almost all the members of the house are from one party. If it were balanced with members of the other parties, can one Baba or GAC in one party tell other party lawmakers what to do and what not to do? I’m glad they got served. They all went to baba to seek endorsements before contesting. 17 Likes 1 Share |

Democracy is seriously endangered in Nigeria There's no doubt about that A tiny group of people have taken control of every part of the National life It's even more shameful when you see youths supporting such people for tribal reasons 12 Likes 1 Share |

Slowly, slowly Lagos is gradually turning to North Korea kind of politics ruled by belly worshipping aristocrats. If decisions of 36 out of 40 lawmakers in Lagos can’t be carried out, effected and respected and a few chunk of big men somewhere recognized for being above the law are the ones directing and dictating final decisions for them by confronting their actions and putting them on their canvases to make them cringe in fear in their legislative duties then it is fair to say that normal Rule of law is substituted for a blended egocentrism and narcissism kind 8 Likes 1 Share |

To the best of my knowledge, Lagos is the only Southwest State - if not in the whole Nigeria - that is not practicing democracy. Democracy has eluded Lagosians for far too long! The recent re-instalment of Obasa, as the Assembly Speaker, against the wishes of the State's lawmakers, who were elected by their people to represent them at the Assembly, is a confirmation of my assertion. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

“Obasa’s return was not a selfless decision by us. It was done simply because we respect our leaders like Baba Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba. In our hearts and souls, we do not want him up till this moment,” the lawmaker said....... You can imagine the kind of leaders in APC. No wonder. These are the same people many peeps here lick their assess. ".......The All Progressives Congress lords said they had resolved the Lagos Assembly crisis. This stands truth on its head. What they did was a brazen attack on democracy and an abuse of their privileges. They made the assembly look spineless and toothless, portraying the lawmakers as no better than neophytes......." The ronus house of assembly is spineless. They like it to be a toothless bulldog, yet they want that of Rivers State to be active enough to disrupt governance of the state. Politics is not a religious affairs where we hope on God or a Deity to assist. Politics is a human construct. Politicians do not care about you. They are selfish and self centred. |
