THIS WILL SAVE NIGERIA OR PUT US ON THE RIGHT PATH. After watching a video of VDM in China, talking about how their Chinese king unified them by making sure everybody learns one language, I started thinking out loud. He said China has more than 100 languages, but the king said we are going to learn and master one language. And for you to be employed in China as a Chinese, you must be able to speak that language called Mandarin. After analyzing his post, I realized we can actually achieve it in Nigeria, but if you choose Hausa, Yoruba people will not be happy. If you choose Yoruba, Igbos won't be happy, and vice versa. So what I want the president to do is, don't choose any of the top 3 or top 5. Go for those other unknown languages where there are no tribal wars. Look for that tribe that has the most educated people in those minority languages. Send linguists to study all those languages to see the one that is simple and closer to English. Then adopt this one, write a phonetic dictionary for it, and then those educated people in that clan or tribe will teach thousands of teachers this language. And these teachers will now teach it to Nigerians as a mandatory subject. To be identified as a Nigerian or to get employment, you must be able to speak it, else, you're a foreigner and will be treated as such. Do you know the billions the UK and the US make when Africans write their English efficiency exams? Let Nigeria do this too. In the end, every real Nigerian will know three languages. The new one, your original one and English. If this is a good idea, click like. If it's a bad idea, click share. Drop your view for agreeing or disagreeing. 10 Likes 4 Shares |

I posted this on ChatGPT and below is what it told me. Your idea is thought-provoking and ambitious. Language unification has historically played a critical role in nation-building, as seen in China, France, and even Indonesia with Bahasa Indonesia. However, Nigeria’s linguistic diversity and sociopolitical dynamics make such a project extremely complex. Here are some key considerations: 2 Likes |

Haylel: People don't have anything on their plate apart from slavery. 80 years from now, they'll all be in their graves and those things on their plates become vanity, but the unity they built through an indigenous language is eternal. China did it. The number of Chinese people that speak English (a foreign language) is more than the number of the real English owners, but does that stop them from having Mandarin, a unifier language? No. One day, every living being would want to learn Mandarin and it'll become the business language of the world. Some implementations is not for you, but for you to know it so that you'll groom the coming generation. The reason Nigeria struggles is because we don't have 50 to 100 year plan for the coming generation. We want whatever we learn to be used by us and us alone. We don't put the unborn into consideration. 3 Likes |

iLegendd: Learning a new language is not as important as seeing where it's going to be leveraged and used. Unification of common tongue will be relevant if we have 1 heart and speak with 1 mouth. That's what happened with the Tower of Babel. What are we building? What are we aiming at as a people and as a nation? A common tongue will not be difficult to adhere to if we are all geared towards one goal. English is the business language of the world. But it's so unfortunate that African leaders are too improvident. Hence, we are unable to leverage it for the Black Continent. If at all we are going to pick a language, it shouldn't be an indigenous language but a common language - Pidgin English. Pidgin English should be made official. Because as it stands it's a language accepted and understood by the majority. We should hold that one. Foreseeing the imminent rise of China to become a world power in a few years from now, Pidgin English + Mandarin should be incorporated into our educational curriculum. Why? Because Africa needs China now. Right now. The Chinese are light-years away from us. However, in bilateral or multilateral relationships with them with the understanding of Mandarin and Pidgin English from both ends, there will be ease of doing business and diplomacy. It will even give Africans the leverage to operate in China. We need to have a unification of mind + spirit before pursuing 1 common tongue. Thanks. 2 Likes |

iLegendd: You are spot on, sir. Sadly, not many of us have the foresight you have. Y'all are a rare breed of human. For most of us, we can only see a step ahead. The idea of "your unborn children will reap it" is too far in the future to motivate us. Given that you enforce this Unifying language, we have no choice but to learn. But that will take a generation before we get there. If we use English however, it shouldn't take us long. I genuinely want to know your answer to this, "why not English?" |
Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by Haylel: 4:13pm On Mar 11 |
CaveAdullam:Hmmmm. I believed sticking to English was the most practical move. But with your suggestion, this might be an even better alternative. Most of us--educated and illiterate--already speak pidgin, so it is easily accepted and assimilated. |
Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by iLegendd(m): 4:14pm On Mar 11 |
CaveAdullam: 1. Learning a new language is not as important as seeing where it's going to be leveraged and used. Answer: It's a unifier, that's the leverage and makes us unique and united globally. 2. Unification of common tongue will be relevant if we have 1 heart and speak with 1 mouth. That's what happened with the Tower of Babel. Answer: All cars (hearts) don't need to be Tesla before they can use the road (language). 3. What are we building? What are we aiming at as a people and as a nation? Answer: We are building the basement of unity. Don't you know unity can be built? 4. A common tongue will not be difficult to adhere to if we are all geared towards one goal. Answer: The goal is still unity, then every other things follows. If there is a group that doesn't want unity, you let them stay. If you can't let them or they can't agree to be united, then let the country be in chaos as it currently is and no one should complain. 5. English is the business language of the world. But it's so unfortunate that African leaders are too improvident. Hence, we are unable to leverage it for the Black Continent. Answer: Someone or some group of people made it the business language of the world, so we too can make something out of ours. 6. If at all we are going to pick a language, it shouldn't be an indigenous language but a common language - Pidgin English. Pidgin English should be made official. Because as it stands it's a language accepted and understood by the majority. We should hold that one. Answer: Back to depending on our slave masters for everything again. Let's speak something that when a white man is around, he won't understand a single word. Why not we also make Islam, a foreign religion, the official religion of Nigeria? It'd be easier to make traditional worshipping the go-to than any of the two big religions in Nigeria. 6. Answer: Yes, we need to have unification, but it must be native, not Pidgin. Having a common tongue is the basement of the unification. It makes us feel as one without Western intrusion, English. From there, great minds will begin to build. You can't unify people without a common language native to them or without technology. One of those must be in place and that is what I'm trying to achieve with this post. |

Haylel: Gradual decolonisation and total independence. If you remove Google, English, iPhone, Google Map, YouTube, American medicine, Tiktok, American movies, American technology, American cars, Western food, American Internet, American Dollar, ATM machine, etc. China will survive. But remove those same things from Nigeria and see how me and you will become depressed instantly and life will become boring. This English I'm using to reply you, remove it or its piding variations and watch how this communication will stop, but two Chinese people who have their different dialects will still continue to chat because of a unifier called Mandarin. I know you'll say, "If we're both Igbos, Yorubas or Hausas, we'll still continue." That is true, but is that unification? No — it's ethnic and tribal. The moment these two things are always interfering, we'll forever stay stagnant. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by iLegendd(m): 5:22pm On Mar 11 |
TheSourcerer:It's not native. I want to be able speak in front of a white or an Asian and they won't understand a single word. "How you dey?" Oyibo may not understand what you're saying, but he sure knows "how and you." We want a situation where they'll know zero word and when they want to come study here, they'll write expensive fluency exams and this will generate money for the country. This generation might not enjoy the benefits of this, but the subsequent ones will. That is how ahead China plans. 1 Like 1 Share |

![]() I can't really agree or disagree because we have to fix some issues first. I believe as humans, regardless of our similarities, we would always look for difference. But I digress... The main reason I do not agree or disagree is I have always wanted this union to be dismembered or at least reorganized in a way that each people are autonomous to an extent. We don't have to stick to democracy, we can always come up with a system that would accommodate this idea, just like your idea (which i wouldn't lie, I do imagine at times) of creating a single official language. This is why we have a brain! It's best we first have a union like the European Union (or UK) where we can all be autonomous but at the same time, need each other as allies. Then after that, we can then create that language... |

DemonSlayer: ![]() English language wouldn't be discouraged, this plan wouldn't even be that effective in our generation but in the next generations to come. This is why I have always hammered on that fact that our educational system is archaic. We can do better, it's depressing coming across ignorant opinions of how Africans can't do shít for themselves but we have great thinkers here — even here on Nairaland. Just because I was taught French as a "subject" back in high school, I still recognize a couple of French words till today. It was just 2 to 3 years in high school! Imagine if it was from elementary school! That's how powerful education can be. If I was the government, I would be using schools, movies, music, and all of these tools needed to enforce propaganda to do something like this. This is how Liberal Americans are spreading all of these beliefs like LGTV or whatever they call it. 1 Like |

SuperOnyi: You raise a strong point about planning for future generations, but I don’t see this being effective in our time. More importantly, I doubt the real impact it would have—if English and Pidgin haven’t united us, what makes us think a new language will? History has shown that attempts to create an artificial language to unify people don’t easily succeed. Esperanto was designed for this very purpose, yet it never gained traction due to several factors. While we may see English as the language of colonizers, if we look at it purely from an economic standpoint, our ability to speak English connects us to the world far more than countries with only indigenous languages. Yes, English is a product of colonialism, but it also gives us access to global opportunities. Let’s not be too quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater. 2 Likes |
Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by SuperOnyi: 8:22pm On Mar 11 |
DemonSlayer: ![]() Yes, we are saying the same thing. Regardless of what we think about colonialism, it's best we begin to see the light. It would do us more good if we stop thinking like victims and start taking advantage of the little weapons on our sleeves. And I bet that's exactly what the boss is talking about, too... Man, I have loads of things to say... If the British didn't do it, some other power hungry motherfúckers would have — I refuse to see myself as a victim. Colonialism destroyed a lot—both good and bad—but it also allowed our knowledge to grow. Sadly, we aren't making good use of this knowledge. I bet if our ancestors knew about all of these technologies and how big our world is, they would have put together this local and "imported" knowledge just like the Chinese did. Colonialism is a huge part of the human race, our ancestors have all "colonized" others one way or the other. I still believe in the kind of revolution boss ilegendd has in mind, the world is going conservative and we should do the same... It would be a long-term plan, but it would certainly work. We just need a strong propaganda, America's music and movies has impacted the world greater than their wars did. It would be slow but with a committed leadership, it would be achieved. This is why I keep saying democracy needs to go, we need a good dictatorship. Unfortunately, I don't know any Nigerian politician fit for this mission... 1 Like |

Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by shogotermies(m): 9:49pm On Mar 11 |
The truth is; the problem of Nigeria isn’t about language but a logical or mental problem. Nigerians are really nice people; culturally we look different but our ways are not far apart. Nigeria would have been much better without a divided religious system, this I can confirm. Mostly we think the language of Nigeria are Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba. But we’ve seen northerners get angry for referring to them as an Hausa, they call it stereotype. We’ve seen kogi (Irariba) frown at being called Yoruba and South south will burn down a building if you call them igbo. If we can divide the country into 6 geopolitical regions, but we can’t even further classify those regions into a tribe or language then how do we all learn one language? |
Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by Haylel: 10:13pm On Mar 11 |
iLegendd:Using a modification of their language has no relationship with our dependence on them. We've been influenced by their clothing, their music, their culture of education, and more. Are we going to purge ourselves of all these in the name of decolonization and total independence? Colonization is not necessarily a bad thing. Decolonization is not necessarily a good thing. I still struggle to see how using English or pidgin will, in any way, be detrimental to our unity. If you remove Google, English, iPhone, Google Map, YouTube, American medicine, Tiktok, American movies, American technology, American cars, Western food, American Internet, American Dollar, ATM machine, etc. China will survive. Perhaps, for a short while. Then, we will adapt, and continue to thrive, just as we always have. Most importantly, none of these has any bearing on our use of pidgin as an official language. The point(s) you raised here is a new discussion entirely. This English I'm using to reply you, remove it or its piding variations and watch how this communication will stop, but two Chinese people who have their different dialects will still continue to chat because of a unifier called Mandarin. Let us not complicate that which is simple enough. The situations where we will have to "remove English and pidgin" are far-fetched. We want the same thing. We just happen to have different opinion on minor issues: You want a language exclusive to us, and you don't mind the number of years it will take to achieve this. I, on the other hand, want the most ideal option for the situation at hand. I do not see the big advantage of using a native language or the big disadvantage of using pidgin. There are a lot of things to tackle, we can't waste 100 years trying to solve the issue of unity (through language). Let's make pidgin official and move on to the next agenda. |

Re: This Will Save Nigeria Or Put Us On The Right Path by Haylel: 10:37pm On Mar 11 |
iLegendd:Meditating over this again, I think I might have to concur to your initial submission. I see now, a big advantage to having a unifying language that is native to us. Funny enough, I do not know how best to put this "big advantage" to words, that other readers may understand. Let me try: The idea of a new language itself sends a message to the current generation and the ones to come. It says, "Hey, Everyone! We are doing away with our diverse cultures of old, and we will all be embracing a new one. This is the vision." The "process" of learning this new language is symbolic. By consciously learning it, you are mentally concuring to the idea of a Unified Nigeria. And that mental acceptance gan gan, is the key to this unity that we seek. I will look into China's case. I want to know if the theory is right or if this will not have the effect I think it will when it is implemented. To suffice, I have changed my position and now leaning towards the idea of a native language instead of pidgin or English. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The only solution to Nigeria is breakup any body who doesn't accept this fact is not intelligent, for a country to prosper there has to be one majority ethnic group that constitute at least 50% of the countries population, the Akans occupy roughly 70% of Ghana that's why the country is more stable than Nigeria. The only ethnic group that understands this dynamic is the fulani that Is why they are trying so hard to fulanise the country so they can have a fulani majority just like they did to hausas and trust me they will achieve that in less than 200 years,at the moment only the igbos and fulanis have a plan for the future ,the igbos want an independent nation from Nigeria so they can preserve the culture, meanwhile the fulanis want to conquered Nigeria so they can expand ,they rest na mumu. |
