did this with illustrator and im still a novice with it although i tweaked it in photoshop
took me bout 10 hours playing around and following a badly explained tutorial to get it to look this good. . .shame you cant appreciate the detail here.
now if u know illustrator well, ull know how hard it is get something to look this realistic. . .enjoy

If you drop an ice-cube into the glass and render a still of the splash effect. That [b]would [/b]be dynamic.

For above, l used 3ds Max 2011 - rendered using Mental Ray. I'm working on an animated version - l like your cube idea.

Got the below model, then baked and rendered using Blender 2.5.7. Baking and rendering just 400 frames in Blender at full HD: 1920x1080 took almost 3 days on my Quad Core PC/8Gb/GTX560/Windows 7.
