Great IFE!! i am so glad to be a part of the graduating set to mark dis year's Golden jubilee. Seriously, OAU is simply great, and full of experiences, Rushing to Ajose every morning at 5a.m for CHM101 was one. i will NEVER forget my worst course on OAU campus, MTH201. especially for those of us who went through the Faculty of Tech, it was really stressful but worth it.

Of course, how can i forget Mozambique hall, and the long nights in white house (Chemistry OVEN) or even the long treks from Spider house to ODLT? But looking several years after, i can say i'm a better person.

And my fellowship, EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN UNION, which helped me realise the very essence of life.
Happy 50th birthday to The Great OAU, Pls join me and sing:

Great Ife, Great Ife,
Africa's most beautiful campus
Courteous, Vigilant, Progressive
Aluta against all oppressions,
Forward ever, Backward never,
For Learning and culture Sports and Struggle,
Great IFE, I love you, There's only one great Ife in the Universe,
Another Great Ife is a counterfeit.
GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT!

Demdem:

i could still remember that evening vividly. i was in block 8 Awo when one guy kept running towards the building hysterically and panting heavily. we all were concerned and thinking of hearing another sad news like the Africa debacle. after much waiting he declared, " Obirin ti gba Ijobaooo. Won ti gba SUG" (the ladies have seized power, they are now occupying the SUG building) Come see curses Guys heap on this fellow. was really a scene grin grin  grin
grin grin grin
I still remember that election. It was like the GEJ election of last year. The ordinarily politically inactive, usually sentimental people were the ones that voted for Diamond(GEJ) while the progressives and politically actives were divided between Wale Eleto(Buhari) and Saburi(Ribadu) then.

I worked for Wale Eleto(my classmate and an avowed Marxist), but Diamond(like GEJ) won based on sentiments.

Ife campus politics na die
They tried repeating same thing next session but the poor guy was rigged out for Saburi(progressive candidate)  grin grin

Most times the sentimental people do get it wrong. and just like i for one cant say anything tangible about Diamonds presidency, likewise i forsee the same fate for this GEJ admin (i pray i am proved wrong).
they tried it the following election and they failed the same way PDP will fail in the next election by Gods grace.

Jarus so na una rigg the election and made O.K not to win. It is not fair at all angry . Girls were barred from voting in so many faculties and in others, if you say you were going to vote for O.K, they stop you. Later they stole ballot boxes and started thumb printing them for Saburi. The result of that election during Saburi's era was strikes and him going on suspension. Not always good to rigg. You see the so called progressives? That orunmila guy enlivened Awo hall with his morning ewi. I remember old school too  smiley

I remember when Diamond was mooting his aspiration, the opposition(I suspect the DSM) pasted posters around the campus showing a picture of FAN and put the question: WHO STOLE THIS FAN FIVE YEARS AGO IN ANGOLA?
That propaganda never worked though, he still won.  grin grin

White house simply has a way of determining ur final CGPA on campus by the time u graduate. my 2yrs at white house was lovely. Thank God i had a very good and solid foundation at white house. Afterwards, spyder building kept on chopping it off small small till my final year when i had a very solid upgrade.
Re: Celebrating Great Ife @ 50 by pcicero(m): 11:49am On Feb 09, 2012
I was in OAU between 1998 and 2002. Stayed in Angola in year 1. Awo Hall all the way till graduation.
I was active in student union politics. I was a radical but a centre of the left.
Vakama (Victor Akinjo Kolade) was the president of SUG in my first year. We were told that votes from UJCM and other politically naïve students brought him to power. The embargo on Students Unionism had just been lifted after the Tony Fash debacle in 1995. It was during his term that Obasanjo visited after his release from prison in October 98. Obasanjo was asked to prostrate for his anti-students role during his military regime. But Prof. Omole the VC and Vakama saved the day. Vakama later became Special Adviser to Obasanjo on Students and Youth Matters.
Late Bola Ige also came and we were awed by his erudition. I took the name Cicero after listening to him.
Then Lanre Legacy became the next SUG president. He was a member of DSM. Legacy's words could move mountains. He was the quintessential leader. It was during Legacy's tenure that the killings took place on July 10,1999. I was staying in Awo and had barely left the Kegites coronation at Awo Cafe when the shootings started. I was at New Buka earlier on with friends and some union guys (most of whom were my firends) came to tell us that they heard some cultists were planning to attack. Unfortunately, the usual preemptive raid on suspected student cultists was unsuccessful as they were eager to return to the Kegites gyration at Awo Cafe.
It was sorrow, tears and blood the next day, as the cultists had murdered Afrika (Yemi Iwilade) the then SUG Secretary and other students. The solemn mood and the fear of possible reprisal attacks on suspected cult members led to the closure of the school. Prof. Wale Omole lost his job because some students finger.ed him as the possible sponsor of the attacks due to his anti-students stance.

Dr 3As became the next president. He was a member of the Pacesetter political movement (CLO and CDHR) and they had many senior lecturers as patrons. His term was marred by confrontations with Prof. Rogers Makanjuola whom many students had been supporting to take-over as the next Vice Chancellor. Many believed that his closeness to some lecturers who felt bitter about Prof. Makanjuola choice as VC was responsible for the confrontations.

Yinka Sotade (Burkina) was the next SUG president. He is a very close friend. We are still in touch. I contested as the Clerk of the SRC but was persuaded to step down for a friend who was later removed and later supported Charles Ubani (a fellow member of SRC from Arts constituency).
Burkina became unpopular for accepting to serve as a member of a security panel set up by FG. He was also believed to have strayed from the ideals of his political group- DSM (democratic socialists movement). I was one of his few supporters when he was ousted.

I was a secretary of the election petition committee that brought in the next SUG president- Akin Revolution of CWA. It was my final year and I had served as a member of the SRC (students' representatives council) and PRO of the Transport Committee of the Students Union.
I went back for MBA in 2006 and finished in 2008.
