Fhemmmy: Nice to see things moving along fine . . . Thank you sir, we are pushing on o, and missing you greatly. I am bringing in the guy who did the frontal pillars in the "large duplex in Enugu" into Owerri tomorrow, I cannot risk any reduction in quality and that is why I am going to pay this guy an additional N80k on top of what the locals have quoted for same works. Sounds crazy? Well am very crazy about quality output. |

I will post my latest colour chart for aluminium roofing sheets later today. Plus, some inside roofing info from those who knows, samples of high and low quality roofing sheets etc. This post will be for the viewing pleasure of the 2 clients who called me for roofing inquiries for their houses, and for my readers here. We just want to make the art of building as fun and transparent as possible. |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 1:09pm On May 23, 2012 |
Did you know before now that it is very possible for a dishonest roofer to collect the funds for aluminium sheets and use ordinary painted zinc to roof your house and you may never find out till the next 5 years or more? |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 4:10pm On May 23, 2012 |
Pillar base works in progress here, plus pillar production all going on in the site. We just ran out of blocks, we are loading blocks from a block industry in the town. Blocks are very expensive here, N150 for a 9" hollow. We shall buy some to complete the block laying before lintels. More pictures later today. |

Hey Mr Spyder, I just want to say a big thank you for bringing this up. can I ask Please, my carpenter will be finishing the nugging of my roofing today and we have the quotes for the Aluminium roofing sheet already which am happy to proceed with, However my Carpenter said to me to hang on for about 3 weeks for the rain and sun to beat the roofing structure before covering up… ...Does this really matters ...I hope you understands what am on about....lol |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 12:36pm On May 24, 2012 |
dagreen14: On the contrary, I think it is better to roof immediately as your termite treatment will be fading in efficacy with every rain/sun. |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by question(m): 12:55pm On May 24, 2012 |
Hi Spyder, I need your advice. which is more economical if have 3 plots of land (300ft by 100ft) in Port Harcourt. It is for basic residential renting purpose. No fancy finishing. I have two options: 1. A 2-story building of 6 two-bedroom flats in only one plot (6 flats)(Probably requires more money and time to complete) 2. 3 bungalows of two-bedroom twin flats each.(6 flats) (probably requires less money and time to complete). Which do you think is more profitable? |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 2:39pm On May 24, 2012 |
question: Hi Spyder, I prefare the first option because it will take less portion of land to build and there are more flat renters than bungalow renters. Some people cannot agree to live downstairs in a bungalow. Please dont bet on the second option being cheaper to build, I have good reasons to believe it will be more expensive to build 6 flats on the ground than on a single 2 storey block. |
Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by ahf(m): 3:44pm On May 24, 2012 |
Just a personal note, if i was to rent one of the two options (and they had equal level of finishing),I would prefer the bungalow. Climbing and carrying things up stairs is a major demerit at times, though storey buildings also have their own merits. |

ahf: Just a personal note, if i was to rent one of the two options (and they had equal level of finishing),I would prefer the bungalow. And thats why bungalows are more expensive to rent than flats, and less population go for it because of cost of renting, and landlords build more flats cause they want the one that will rent faster. A bungalow and flat will never be the same in rental price. |
