Nobody is underestimating the importance of having a good defence. But apart from saves, goalkeepers bring more to the table.
From ability to calmly claim crosses, to the command of their 18-yard box. Mendy exudes confidence and calm, but reverse is the case for Kepa. When your goalie exudes those two qualities, the defence tends to fare better, and there's generally more co-ordination in your box.

Also, check the early chance Burnley had...a reckless goalie might have taken another approach, but Mendy smartly raced out, stopped as he got close to the attacker and used his frame to destabilize said attacker, who planted his attempt off target.

Those little details matter.

Kepa was just average but with good footwork. He became shocking after the Carling Cup final. That was the incident that ended his Chelsea career.
