You are correct. The midfield is being loaded, forcing us to always use the width of the pitch.
Tuchel usually solved this by pushing the wing backs into the midfield to play narrowly but they've failed to do this. Maybe we should drop this wingback system temporarily at least. Put one more man in the midfield.

CHO running into the box is why Alonso has plenty space at the byline to use, because Cho is dragging Villa's fullback with him.

Problem is Alonso is too slow when he receives the ball, zero acceleration to beat his man for a cross.

Those passes would only lead to crosses, and James has been particular stupid with them thus far.

Kovacic should come on, we’re loosing the midfield. He alongside Kante are good dribblers and can take the game to Villa. Chalobah’s recovery in the game has been top notch as well

I think James has been targeting Alonso, the biggest man joining the attack. That's why a lot of his deliveries have sailed to the back post. It'll be hard to get a good low delivery into the box tbh.

But James had been off it, admittedly.
