Ibime: Nooo na!!!! The free kick took a wicked deflection at the edge of that wall and that affected Rufai’s timing. As for the Raul goal, we allowed Hierro pick us apart from the middle. I would blame the midfielders especially the Headmaster for not pressing Hierro and then Mobi for allowing Raul slip under him. I will admit he was poor against Denmark especially that shot he fumbled for a rebound. You are absolutely right about Mobi and Eguavoen because I never rated either. Eguavoen was all talk no grit, a very vulnerable Mobi in real life is so erratic and annoying. Imagine the dwarf always wants to play midfield or attacker whenever he returned to play at Township School, adjacent to the Stadium (Dan Anyiam)! The guy shakara no be here oh..I thought we were undone by our lack of a quality striker during France 98 and we were punished against Denmark. Ikpeba did not impress me as the main striker. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Roland17: Good points, but Rufai parried that shot back into Rauls path. That was an error. He was also very slow off his line and slow with his dives. If like me, you grew up watching Alloy Agu man the sticks in Senegal 92, then you are told Rufai who was the greatest keeper ever has made peace with Westerhoff, you will be looking at Rufai as a God after winning Tunis94 and the World Cup run. However when you go back and watch some of those goals he conceded, and look at their individual careers, you must say that Shorunmu and Enyeama are way ahead. Same way we were told Chidi Nwanu has made peace with Westerhoff and is one of the greatest defenders. Thankfully he performed well and didn't stick around after 1994 to disprove that sentiment. 1 Like |

Ibime: Etim Esin was a player that village people ensured that he never succeeded despite his bundle of talent. He didn't make the world cup because of a false rape allegation. His career was nailed into the coffin, by an attack by robbers that shot him in the thigh. Etim played some matches for Eagles in the qualifiers and was better as a midfielder than Okocha and Oruma combined. Okocha only went to Usa 94, because Esin was banned. He was sitting on the bench for Etim in Eagles before then. 2 Likes |

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas,[b] and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. The Resurrection of the Dead 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.”[c] Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. 29 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30 And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? 31 I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”[d] 33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”[e] 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame. The Resurrection Body 35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[f]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we[g] bear the image of the heavenly man. 50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[h] 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”[i] 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. He has risen. Hallelujah!!!! 7 Likes |

Ibime:Baba, the truth of this matter is, our defense at France 98 was horrible while our attack was blunt mostly because our forwards were piss poor. Against Spain: We conceded 2 goals, scored 3 ( Adepoju, Own goal and Oliseh, all midfielders). Against Bulgaria: we scored 1 (Ikpeba) and Rufai was highly instrumental in keeping that clean sheet. Against Paraguay: We conceded 3, scored 1 (Oruma, a midfielder) Against Denmark: Conceded 4, scored 1 (Babangida) Im summary, we conceded 9 goals, scored 6, 3 of those 6 were scored by midfielders (1 own goal), 2 by forward players, 1 by a winger, 1 by CF. That defense was overrated and horrible. |

airmark: These are folklore and praise-singing we only read on pages of newspapers. We never saw him in any senior men's tournament to judge. Adepoju who went to WYC 1989 had been established in Super Eagles since 1990, while Etim Esin who came to prominence in 1987 WYC still had not found his feet in the senior team by 1994. In Nigeria then, you believe only half of what you hear. That's how we were told Rufai is the greatest goalkeeper and Nwanu is the greatest defender. Our senior neighbour then always tells us that Okwaraji was the greatest, and if Fashanu and John Salako join Super Eagles, we would win World Cup. 9 Likes |

Ibime: Bro, i swear i watched him when he played for Nigeria then, though few games, and he was exceptional. He used to tie headband in matches. In fact in our primary school then, i remember we used to say ' Emi Etim Esin' (I am Etim Esin), after dribbling multiple players successfully. However he didn't play for long at all. But regarding quality, he was a better midfielder than Okocha and Oruma. He was hugely unlucky. 1 Like |

Ibime: Etim Esim no even deserve any mention, its like rating Stanley Okoro based on under aged competition Esin didn't even cut it in Europe nor local league. Everything is based on what he could have done not what he did. Nigeria always had shitty keepers which always meant Rufai to the rescue. Before Tunisia 94 we had Ngodigha, Alloy Agu, Agbonavbare, Willy Okpara but Rufai went to the world cup After that Rufai dissappeared Dosu, Baruwa Shorunmu, Okpara all tried and fell on badluck only for us to go back to Rufai Dodo Mayana 8 Likes |

Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 3:23am On Apr 12, 2020 |
airmark: Etim Esin never made Senegal 1992 squad. Where did you watch that one? I hope you know Etim Esin would have been turning 28 years old in 1994. Newspapers just hyped him up in our psyche as a cautionary tale of talent gone astray that made us believe he was a great lost talent, and that had an effect of making him look greater than he was. The truth is he was already 27 in 1994 and had not achieved anything in Senior men's Eagles. They just remembered him from WYC 1987 no different from Chrisantus, Rabiu Ibrahim and co who shine at that level and do not transition to men's team. Adepoju and Amokachi who came on youth football scene in 1989 were already playing for Senior Eagles by 1990, (Amokachi was promoted straightaway) while newspapers made you believe a 27 year old Etim Esin would be the next big thing in 1994, when he has been around since WYC 1987 without making any senior impact. 2 Likes |

airmark: He played some league games pre Chile 87 when he got shot in his 505 saloon car, Everyone hyped him and ensured he was patched up for Chile 87 which he was underwhelming. The only thing I remember him for was hitting the post vs Brazil in Chile 87, vs Italy he was anonymous. Adeolu Adekola and John ene Okon looked better than Etim who was obviously unfit How much damage could an under 21 do in Nigerian league After that he went to Europe Etim was talented but never showed himself at any high level to make an accurate judgment 1 Like |

raumdeuter: He was the best player in his Benin team, before joining Nationale. He got that 505 evolution car at 18, after Iwuanyanwu and MKO fought over him, to move from Flamengo. He later bought bmw. This wouldn't happen to an average player that time. Genk or so later signed him from Nationale, when they came to Nigeria and he played against them in a friendly match, and scored 3 goals. Indescipline ruined him. Period. |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 3:42am On Apr 12, 2020 |
raumdeuter: Before Etim makes USA94 squad, they will call Friday Ekpo or Friday Elahor who was junior to him but already more established in Senior Eagles. Thomson Oliha was even his junior but well established and used to make squad. Infact they may even call JayJay senior brother Emmanuel Okocha back before considering Etim Esin. That one was also his junior but more established in Senior football. 4 Likes |

Tijani Babangida was also a very good winger, but wasn't always in the team, then there was Garba Lawal an unusually untechnical Nigerian footballer at that time, but was always part of the team in important tournaments. |

airmark: From qualifiers, you may think Wilfred Agbonavbare is our greatest ever keeper. Who can forget his outstanding performance away in the draw in Algiers that ensured we qualified for World Cup. The guy made a save diving backwards like he is doing backflip. Forget all those qualifiers against Kenya or Burundi, whatever. You may be seeing some dribbles that shak you as a primary school kid but if you watch it now as an adult, you'll probably say he is playing nonsense. All I know is Etim Esin never made Algeria 90 squad, never made Senegal 92 squad, is it USA 94 squad that he will make? When his juniors like Oliha, Elahor, Adepoju have already passed him and have been playing for Eagles since like 1990. 2 Likes |

Ibime: That's why i said village people were on his case. The Etim Esin i knew would bench those you mentioned based on skillset. For Algiers 90, it was reported that Lokeren didnt release him. He missed other cups due to his rape case. He was a master dribbler truely but he could score too. He was the highest scorer for Flamingo before Iwuanyanwu signed him. He was also reported to have scored well for lokeren. |

PDPGuy: Very good list. Also the guys have dissected it well and made some good points. Eguavoen made me sad in 1994. He was tall, quick, rugged but didn’t have the best decision making. Yobo and Equavoen played the same 3 positions (RB,CB,DM). I go with Yobo. Mine: .........................,.......Rufai.......................... ....Yobo......Okechukwu.....Taribo.....Babayaro.. ................................Oliseh......................... ..................Odegbami .......Okocha......... .....Finidi..................Yekini.........Amuneke....... I know Odegbami was a RW but had to fit him in there somehow. That 1980 deserved a shoutout LOL. He was the best player in a Nations Cup winning team(our first), scoring 2 goals in the final against a team with Belloumi and Madjer. The first half of Okocha was a showboater but the showboating reduced towards the later part of his career. Oruma at his peak was probably a much better fit for the national team but he was criminally sidelined for Okocha, partly because of the fans. 3 Likes |
