Am so so sick and tired of people saying goverment didn't do this or that! For Christ sake there are over 160million people in Nigeria amd you would be amaze at the talents of some folks, but lot of them died with this natural talents. Yekini was lucky he had talents and God took him to the height of his career, is it too much for him save money or impact the lives of others favourably that would have been there for him? When he had so much money how many people did he sent to school, how many did he assist in startin a trade, how many seeds or tree did he plant that he would have rested under their shade. That should be the question we should be asking and not whather goverment or NFF abandoned him or not. In my own opinion this question is very irrelevant.

Yekini needed good medical attention and it would not cost the government anything to make sure he was treated and got back to sound health. Yes, other countries would do that for their Heroes.

noiseless: Honestly I understand where you are coming from, trust me something might have happened to his savings resulting to or contributed to what led to the condition he suffered of which non of us is aware, however his "wealth" that we all have in mind does not justify the fact that the authority failed to do what they are supposed to be doing which is caring for it's own citizens. So we must not be judgemental here which is a typical nigerian mentality cos we really don't how come he ended up like this
what u said is very true. Nigeria govt had empowered NFF wit some fund 4 issues lyk d welfares even though govt hasn't tried enuf bt NFF has compromised evry opor2nities of Nigerian 2 Excel in futball by enrichin themselves by our patriot sweat. Imagine NFF was charged with coruptn, then they (NFF) quickly set up panel 2 probe themselves -thief interogatin himselves 2 know weda he is a thief or not. Total madness

solayemi: See black brains talking/commenting. What happened to the money he made as a footballer? How many houses has d brazilian gvmt built 4 pele or how many times has d french gvmt paid zidane's hospital bills. These guys made themselves relevant after their careers, that is why we still see them 2day and not because their govmnts put them where they are today. What did he do with his life and wealth after soccer?

I heard from a reliable source he was conned by 419 boys, that was why he was depressed and had no money.

It is sad and disheartening to know that our football legend died in deep poverty, but who is to be blamed, not the government, not the fans but yekini himself.
So many people with talents never get to that kind of height of fame and wealth and they still live well atleast not in deep poverty, so if He got there and made that kind of money and govt was paying him when he was shining for the country, he should have invested that money for tomorrow,Knowing fully well Nigeria will not cater for you all the days of your life. Truth is not only in Nigeria do we have sports legend being broke, once you are not skilled in managing money you will someday endup broke Sir,Peter Shilton was a legendary goalkeeper for England Dennis Rodman and Micheal Jordan both played basketball at a high level for chicago bulls jordan is still super rich while rodman is broke and so on.
