ChinoElects: I have come to notice that you are a man of low esteem. You get carried away with zero performance of Chime..

Watch pix below and see what a teaching hospital should look like and then compare it to that jam-packed blocks you call teaching hospital..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNmFk5z2NIw

Sorry bro, its obvious you are not in the medical field cos that teaching hospital is the worst in the south east when it comes to personnel and equipment for healthcare. The medical school is struggling with accreditation and probably has no graduates yet. I guess the post graduate school hasn't started yet hence no research. It is not all about big structures. A teaching hospital is a tertiary health care institution known to handle specialist cases, undergraduate and post graduate training and research and not just large structures.

Who is this unlettered daft? What do you know about equipment of hospitals? ANSUTH has been accredited and has some of best facilities and personnel in it. Can you also compare the performance of ANSU and ESUT on academic basis? I hope you dare not because aside cultism and rascality ESUT is not supposed to be a higher institution but a 'war college'.

ChinoElects: Stop deceiving yourself Enugu sec is a very ugly sec without even parking space, so jammed together like a big chalet. Below is the pix I took myself. Now compare the 2 secs and call result. There is no gain saying that chime is a bug time failure. All the roads I saw when I visited were red and dusty. I didn't see the hype spyder was spewing here all the time. The estate I showed is a section of the aerial though the pix is not sharp enough. The estate beats whatever you can come up with..

This thread makes me super happy.
I've been following it for a very long time and I'm impressed.

Sullivan has turned all of us who looked down on him earlier when he came into power into fulltime supporters.

I wish him more grease.

Those who are dying of jealousy should please try and stay alive so more jealousy can give them sleepless night.

Spyder, well done o.
You've done marvelously well in your updates.

But I want to ask, what changed your mind about Sullivan?
I know you were against him few years ago.

I promote every part of Igboland. You can even see my beautiful pix of Enugu state on this thread. What I am saying in essence is that spyder is a propagandist who feeds people false information because I was in Enugu myself. I am not saying that Chime didn't achieve anything but a lot I mean a lot is not attended to both other sectors and otherwise.

Esuth has also produced some consultants from their residency program. Many of the consultants are from NAUTH n UNTH covering ansuth. Though it will take a while but Ansuth will surely get Dia one day. Hopefully obiano will do well to fast track Dat.

What I am saying is that you do not know what you are talking about. ANSUTH is a brand new teaching hospital with a new accreditation and has overtaken other state teaching hospitals around.. The teaching hospital since establishment has been churning out excellent materials in human resources. So I don't know where you are getting your own info.

From the 2008 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), Anambra ranks as the first among the five south east states where maternal healthcare is taken seriously; and it has a record of about 97per cent of her women accessing antenatal care from skilled healthcare providers.

Anambra State performance can be described as encouraging when compared with the national mean data in which only a little more than half of all pregnant women received antenatal care from a health professional (58 per cent).

According to the NDHS data for Anambra, 46.8 per cent of the women of reproductive age (15- 49) are seen and attended to by doctors during antenatal, 43.6 per cent of the pregnant women would often receive care from Nurses and midwives, with auxiliary nurses seeing about 7.2 per cent of the women. A mere 0.4 per cent of the pregnancy are seen by community health workers while 1.2 per cent are attended to by Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and 0.8 per cent of the pregnant population are never seen by anyone during gestation period.

In order of ranking among the southeast states, Imo has the second highest of 96.3per cent of her pregnant women receiving antenatal care from skilled care providers and this is closely followed by Abia (89 per cent), Ebonyi (75. 7per cent) and Enugu (68. 1 per cent).

In contrast, the 2008 national mean data showed as follows: only 23 per cent of the women were attended to by a medical doctor, 30 per cent received care from a nurse or midwife, and five per cent from an auxiliary nurse or midwife. Thirty-six per cent of all the mothers did not receive any antenatal care at all.

From the accounts of the state’s former Commissioner for Health Professor Amobi Ilika, although the state equally has one of the lowest records of deaths of women in pregnancy which is about 100 out of 100, 000 ratio in the country, “but then this is still unacceptably high considering the fact that the target of the Millennium Development Goal is to reduce maternal death to less than 75 per 100, 000 live birth in developing countries of which Nigeria is certainly one.”

Similarly, the 2008 DHS for infant and child health record in the state showed that 51.9 per cent of children under-five years received all the necessary immunisations with a gap of about 10.4 per cent receiving no vaccinations.

Although Anambra State by the 2008 NDHS has some impressive data for its maternal health, indicators however showed that accessing healthcare facilities in the state is still with some hitches such as include the fact that about 14.8 per cent of pregnant women would require the permission of their husbands to go for treatment and 57.4 per cent of the women need to rely on their husbands to give them money to receive treatment during pregnancy.

Requirement for financial aid from spouses are as a result of distance of which some 27 per cent of the women would always complain about with 18 per cent of them actually needing to take a form of transportation to get to the nearest health facility and 10. 5 per cent of the women would indeed not want to go to the facility alone without some aide.

Furthermore, the 2008 NDHS showed that in most parts of the state, about 16.2 per cent of pregnant women still complain there are skilled provider to attend to their needs with another 26 per cent having complaints that there are usually no drugs when they go to the health facilities.

These and many more were the reasons why one of the multinational oil exploration companies, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) decided to support one of the densely populated local government areas of the State, Orumba North, in the completion of one of the most vital healthcare facilities it has started 21 years back for the benefit of the teeming population of the women and children.

The construction of the Ofu-Obi Comprehensive Health Centre situated in Nanka began some 21 years ago by the age-grade group to complement the only existing community health centre which was established in 1949; unfortunately when the project got to the roofing stage, it had to be abandoned because of lack of funds and that was about 14 years ago, said, the duo of President and Secretary General of the Nanka Patriotic Union, Damian Okoye and Patrick Okeke Emezue during the recent commissioning of the project by Governor Peter Obi.

Speaking with Independent Health, Okoye explained why a new health centre became desirous: “What motivated the Ofu Obi Age Grade to this project was that Nanka, erosion-ravaged, but the most populated community in the local government depended on a Primary Health Care facility set up through community effort in 1949 and since then, the situation has not changed except with the commissioning of this edifice.”

He noted that with the completion and equipping of the new comprehensive health centre, the people of Agulu, Awgbu, Ekwuluobia, Isuofia, Igboukwu, Ikenga, Aguluzoigbo, Ummuona, Oko and Amaokpara among others will not have a place to receive healthcare and medical attention.

The lot of the women and children as well as the aged in the various 13 communities around Nanka is expected to indeed be changed with the commitment of N150million by Esso Exploration to completion and equipment of the health centre.

Madam Theresa Eze was filled with joy at the commissioning and was sighted with her other women group dancing to the drum beats and local flutes. The entire compound of the health centre went agog with dancing and jubilation immediately Governor Peter Obi cut the tape to declare the facility open for use.

Some of the people at the event were seen taking opportunity to check their blood pressure among other simple health checks which were declared free.

The scope of the EEPNL’s support include complete reconstruction of the abandoned building with long span roofing sheets, construction of a 4-bedroom staff quarters, a generator house, security post and fencing of the entire compound.

EEPNL also provided two 60kva standby generators, underground water tanks, 24 male and female beds, seven paediatric units, a modern theatre and recovery room, two delivery beds, two vacuum extractors an incubator, two oxygen concentrators among other furnishing with assorted medical equipment.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Obi appealed to the people of the Nanka Community to take charge of the facility and ensure it is well- maintained to their satisfaction.

According to him, “the way the facility is set up, it would be run for a year after which government will take it over in term of support to make it sustainable like it is doing for all its other hospitals.

“We encourage our communities and missionaries to run the health facilities in their care but we support them with subventions; in that way, it would be effective unlike when we make health facilities purely government run projects.”

General Manager Public and Government Affairs, Exxon Mobil, Paul Arinze, explained that a management body has been put in place to establish the needed support and plan for the transition of ownership by EEPNL to Nanka community.

“Within the 12 months of project management and transition by the Centre for Values in Leadership, there would be partnership with the state Ministry of Health to make sure it attains and maintains government set standards and make it an affiliation of the State University Teaching Hospital for the purpose of becoming an outlet for research and development.

Local Government Chairman, Emeka Afoika, described the intervention by EENPL as welcoming at a time the government was increasing the tempo to meet the target of the millennium development goal of halving maternal deaths in Anambra.
