Enugu state is commissioning an asphalt plant. This is nice, I didn't know they meant it when they said the state government was building an Asphalt plant to speed up asphalt supply

Peter Mbah said during the commissioning that the state government aims to construct 1000 kilometres of road every year. Very interesting stuff.

Looks well planned and intentional! Only problem would be how to fix up all those inner roads criss-crossing each other. I suppose the scale of the job confronting them made the state gov’t invest in their own asphalt plant. Even reticulating pipe-bourne water to all those houses would be a challenge!

The state gov’t could maximise the use of scarce land by considering engaging with the private sector to build multi-story apartment blocks. That’s one area we’re yet to key into in the south-east! And in the south-south, only Port Harcourt has done this (Rainbow high-rise blocks)!

On the issue of nationality, what do people think of Chidimma Adetshina, born and raised in South Africa to a Nigerian father from Enugu and a Mozambican mother, but for complex reasons, is now not technically South African.

I'm presuming that by allowing her to participate in our beauty pageant she was de facto accepted to be Nigerian, but I would be interested in the actual law that supports this. By contrast, do children of Gambian nationals born in Nigeria gain Nigerian nationality at birth? And is this nationality by virtue of birth in Nigeria, having lived in Nigeria or strictly by having parents who are Nigerians?

Also, do Enugu people recognise her as Onye Enugwu having not been born here nor lived here nor speak the language? Do tribal affiliations overcome these other barriers?

Just trying to understand the law better.

PS Just to add this is not a shade, I genuinely feel sorry for her and wish her well, and can't imagine how it must hurt to be rejected by the country you were born in and lived in all your life.

T for thanks.

take a look at what Mba is achieved in less than 2 years in office. Now compared it with what Ugwuanyi has done in 8 wasted years lol
.
Let me educate you, if governance were to be a function of age, then Peter Mba would have been the worst governor of Enugu state. Why you say ?
Ugwuanyi was born in July 1964 , assumed office on May 2015 which made him 50 years 10 months at the time, Mba on the other hand was born on march 1972, assumed office on May 2023 at the age of 51years 3 months.
This did not just made Mba older than gburugburu at the time of their inauguration but also made him the oldest person to become the governor of Enugu state since 199 9 and even beyond. Note the Sullivan Chime became governor at the age of 47 while Chimaroke was just 38 when he assumed office.
From the above exposure, you should know that Mbas performance has nothing to do with age and age is not a factor in performance else Alex Otti who was the oldest governor to rule Abia state would have been their worst governor

My brother, when they talk about youth participation in government, I just laugh, Yaha bello is always used as an example of a youthful leader while they forgot that a lot of governors younger than Bello have come and gone. Youths have been participating in our governance since 1999 and I mean people that assumed office younger than yahaya bello.
Bello assumed office at age 42 while the following became governors aged less than 40.
They include
Orji Uzo Kalu (Abia)
Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu)
Donald Duke(Cross River)
Lucky Igbinedion (Edo)
Sanni Yerima (Zamfara)
Saminu Turaki (Jigawa)
Niyi Adebayo (Ekiti)

They were all failures except Donald Duke, the problem of terrorism we are experiencing today in northern Nigeria was introduced by a youthful governor when Sanni Yerima came up with Sharia law in Zamfara state

One of the few things I like about Mba is his penchant to complete long abandoned projects, I give him kudos there... Enugu has lots of abandoned projects that really need to be brought to life. The 300 bed special hospital is another great one from the govt. Just imagine Chimaroke coveting that magnificent structure for the teaching hospital of his private university before EFCC stepped in. shocked

Speaking about hospitals, I will suggest the proposed Federal University of Health sciences that is planned at the Dental School be moved to a more expansive land in the outskirt like Ituku-ozalla. UNTH should be made a stand alone Federal University of Health sciences (the hospital is too far from the city), maybe the teaching hospital for the school can be move and sited at the Dental School which is inside town.

UNTH itself should then be moved to its original site at Nsukka (UNTH community Health post Obukpa, Nsukka) another expansive site that is currently performing below its capacity.

This will be the best approach to welcome our own Federal University of Health sciences in the state and make it more viable. Bauchi, Osun, Benue and a host of other states now have their own Federal University of Health sciences, making it two federal teaching hospitals in some of those states.

UNTH can not be moved to Nsukka, if you want to move UNTH to Nsukka, you will also have to move UNEC to Nsukka because both institutions works hand in hand and in detachable. It is basically impossible anyway.

Where would Students studying Medicine and Surgery, Med Reb, Dentistry, Radiology, Meb Lab Science, Nursing, Psychology, Anatomy etc go for posting? Or are you suggesting that they take bus every day from Enugu township to Nsukka for posting then come back to UNEC to receive lectures? I was in the system, so I know what I'm telling you. Pharmacy is still in Nsukka because they don't go for posting. Every other medical related courses are in UNEC.

Where ever UNTH goes, is where College of Medicine, College of health Science and College of medical science goes. ( They make up 70% of UNEC other faculties are Business Administration, Law and Environmental science ).

So in conclusion, you can't move UNTH without moving UNEC. Ask those that graduated UNEC and they will educate you.

And do you even know the cost of moving the whole UNTH and College of Medicine, College of medical science and College of health Science to Nsukka grin grin grin

They are even federal institutions and not state owned. So the state government can't decide.

Relax bro, and stop contradicting yourself... Read my post again.

If the teaching hospital is moved to its original place which is at Nsukka the associating departments will follow suit...

It's not about moving the equipment and whatnots from Enugu to Nsukka, like I said initially, the proposed Federal University of Health sciences Enugu can takeover those facilities, just a name change... They are both federal institutions. Instead of limiting themselves to the precinct of the Dental College Enugu that is too small.

As you claim you were in the system, hope you know there is still UNTH at Nsukka (Obukpa precisely) up to this moment but serving as a community outpost for the main UNTH? With a very large expanse of land wasting away, although the lawmakers from Nsukka are planning to make it a Federal Medical Centre but that will be a lose to UNN, that my stand.

Why not suggest they move the New federal University of health Science to Nsukka instead of UNTH that is now grounded in Ozalla. Why move a major, number one hospital from a place where it's can be easily accessible to majority of the population to a place with lesser population.

The original reason the teaching hospital was moved from Nsukka to Enugu ( Ozalla) is the same reason it's can't be moved back, accessability by majority of the population. There are many reasons beyond political reasons why this will not work. Obukpa was suppose to be the main site but like I told politics and population decided where it would be situated.

It is easy to move IMT or Parklane from it present location than UNTH citing congestion as the main reason.

Lol 😂, and you think Ituku-ozalla is more populated than Obukpa? Nsukka Town that the population keeps increasing as each day passes by? Talk another one...

Mind you, Ituku-ozalla is quite far from Enugu City; about 20 kilometers, that's not an ideal distance to locate a major hospital. That could be one of the reasons Ituku-ozalla is performing below its capacity as against its mates across the country... Take for example, Unilag Teaching Hospital, OAUTH, UITH, ABUTH and a host of others. Ituku-ozalla is just producing doctors they hardly retain them.

Even NAUTH Nnewi, has finally moved to its permanent site, check out the facilities there and compare them to UNTH and you will weep.

And again moving the new university to Nsukka will make Nsukka have two Federal Universities... 😅

The govt has already made the new university to be in Enugu precisely the Dental College, my grouse is the size of the Dental College for a specialized university as this, that's why Ituku-ozalla that has the landmass (about 500 hectares) can serve the purpose for that university with the Dental College being its teaching hospital because it's in the City. It will finally give Enugu East senatorial zone a university balancing each zone.

Hope you are aware Ebonyi state already has their own Federal University of Health sciences?

UNTH services Enugu Metropolis, Nkanu West, Nkanu East, Agwu LG and some border part of Udi(20 minutes drive from Enugu Town to UNTH)v. Will you compare the distance to when someone is going from Enugu to Nsukka, would you compare this population to the population it would serve when it's moved to Nsukka.

Secondly, the location of UNTH has nothing to do with it performance. Moving it to Nsukka would not make them to perform above what is up tenable now. Talking about retaining Doctors, presently no Nigeria teaching hospitals is retaining it's students. The employment market is already saturated.

Since Nsukka already has UNN, they should take the institution to Ezeagu or Udi, they're also part of Enugu and needed to be carried along.

Enugu To Assemble 1,000 Tractors Locally By 2025, 300 Ready In 2024 – Mbah

As part of the effort of his administration to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn and ensure food security, tractors needed for farming in Enugu State will be produced in the state before the end of the year, governor of the state, Dr. Peter Mbah has announced.

The governor stated this when he received the newly elected President of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye, and other leaders of the association at the Government House, Enugu, at the weekend.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment and helping to de-risk investment in the state, calling on investors to key into the growing investment revolution in the state.

“We are ready for business and we are open for business. You could not make a better choice than Enugu when you are thinking about where to invest or where to grow your wealth because you are dealing with a government that is business-friendly and we do not only think about creating the environment for businesses to thrive, we are also interested in working with you collaboratively either as a Joint Venture (JV) or Private Public Sector Partnership (PPP) or even helping you to de-risk the investment flow. We are interested in listening to you, knowing what areas that would make it possible for you to invest.

“We have just signed an order with a Danish company that is coming here to manufacture their tractors. So, our target is that before the end of the year, we would have been able to assemble over 300 tractors. Our ultimate target in the medium term is to get up to 1,000 tractors before the end of next year.

“What this means is that you would not have to import the machinery and the implements you need to be able to farm in Enugu State.

“Again, we are interested in value addition and processing too. We are building a Special Processing Zone where we expect that as we plan to scale up our production in the agricultural space, we have produced cities where those things can be processed. It is not just producing and exporting them raw. We are planning to add value, create and capture those values,” Mbah said.

He added that the government was taking measures to ensure the availability of the necessary infrastructure, ranging from urban roads to access roads to farm, power, and water, while also making huge investments in security and collaborating with security agencies to sustain and strengthen the relative security attained by the state in the last 15 months.

“In the area of roads, our target is to make sure that all our streets, all our roads in the city are paved and we are already achieving that. Just recently, we completed the 71 roads we awarded last October and we again awarded another 141 roads. We are also making sure that we also get our rural roads paved, most importantly the access road to the farmlands because we have some ambitious target in our agricultural sector where we now have over 300,000 hectares of land in our landbank,” he said.

Enugu, Jelfah Group, Sign ₦‎40 Billion Deal To Revitalise Moribund Sunrise Mills

Enugu State Government and Jelfah Nigeria Ltd have signed a N40bn deal for the revitalisation of the long-moribund and state-owned Sunrise Flour Mills, Enugu.

The deal, which was signed at the Government House, Enugu, Tuesday, saw Jelfah acquire 60 per cent equity stake in Sunrise Flour Mills and is expected to invest N24bn in the iconic mills, which went moribund since 1985, just two years after it was commissioned in 1983, while the state government keeps 40 per cent based on the existing assets of the company.

Speaking at the brief signing ceremony and public announcement of the transaction, Mbah said this milestone, coming on the heels of the N100bn deal to resuscitate the hitherto dying Enugu United Palm Products Limited, UPPL, were clear demonstrations of his administration’s determination to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn through private sector investment.

“Just a few months ago, we secured an investment size of N100bn with a company known as Pragmatic Palms Limited, and today we have just witnessed Enugu State, again, securing another investment size of N40bn.

“This investment will see Jelfah Group investing N24bn into the existing Enugu Sunrise Flour Mills. N22bn will be directed into revmaping and resuscitation of the Sunrise Flower Mill, and N2bn is going to come to the State by way of cash.

“The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is also going to own 10,000 hectares of farmland, where we are going to cultivate the inputs for the flour mills such as cassava and grain.

“This is a testament that when we say Enugu State is open for business, we are truly committed to it. We understand how to make a win-win deal, both for the investors and for the people of Enugu State,” Mbah stated.

He assured Jelfah group of continued support, enjoining other prospective investors to come over to invest in the state.

“We hope that this signals to other investors, who may still be on the fence that Enugu is actually ready for business. We are committed to not just creating the enabling environment, but also working with investors to help them derisk investments and grow their businesses,” the governor concluded.

Speaking, the Chairman of Jelfah Group, Moses Saromi, said they were attracted by Governor Mbah’s vision, dynamic leadership, and speedily increasing ease of doing business in Enugu State under his leadership, saying that Jelfah was in a hurry to transform Sunrise Mills to a centre of excellence.

“Your policies have unlocked new opportunities for private sector participation, and Jelfah is proud to be part of this progressive movement.

“This acquisition of 60 per cent equity not only aligns with Jelfah’s long-term vision, but also furthers the governor’s ambition of empowering the people, revitalising moribund assets, and ensuring sustainable development. And together with our consortium partners, our goal is to transform Sunrise Four Mills into a centre of excellence, harnessing our collective expertise to drive growth and value creation.

“So, we firmly believe that this partnership will catalyse positive change, spark job creation, elevate local production capacities, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic advancement of Enugu State,” he said.

“We have worked hard in the last months to get to this point. We have a short term, medium term, and a long term plan for the flour mills. Activities will start in earnest. In another 90 days, you are going to experience a lot of movements and activities with regards to the revitalisation of the flour mills.

“Our activities will include recruitment of people, who will run the plant, indigenes of the state, obviously. And as the governor rightly said, we are creating a model that will provide the inputs for the mills, such as the 10,000 hectres of farmlands to cultivate all the inputs for the mills,” he said.

UNTH can not be moved to Nsukka, if you want to move UNTH to Nsukka, you will also have to move UNEC to Nsukka because both institutions works hand in hand and in detachable. It is basically impossible anyway.
UNEC was a big mistake. The reason Enugu lost it's federal poly

Dead on arrival

The original UNTH at Obukpa Nsukka still receive UNEC students. UNEC was the pholishness of myopic people in Enugu state. Imagine converting Kaduna polytechnic to ABU Kaduna campus. Nonsense

Myopic politics decided not population. Zik should have cited UNN in Onitsha then, if it's a matter of population
