Technology, properly utilised with wisdom from God, a blessing; technology taken as an end in itself, a curse. Just as technology has eased life for man, it has equally brought many plagues upon man. It takes a man with wisdom to draw the line - to know when to walk to keep body fit and healthy than sit in a car all days and jeopardise ones health. It is important than humans realise that over reliance on technology can harm us and a little physical exertion from time to time helps tune our muscles and maintain us in good health

IT Usage in Hospitality. Nigeria

PN Consulting

PN consulting is a system integrating and project management company. It is founded by a group of Nigerian IT professionals with combined experience of over forty years in the IT industry. PN Consulting was formed to bridge some gaps in the industry, for instance, some companies acquire technology but the usage is always disappointing. So, our mission is to assist such organizations to leverage their investment in technology or to guide them to make right decisions in IT usage to drive their business objectives. Our primary focus ranges from IT diagnosis such as the value for money assessment of IT design, defining the right IT architecture and roadmap, project management, system integration and infrastructure consulting.

Focus On Hospitality Industry

Why we are focusing on the hospitality industry is that Nigeria being the second largest economy in Africa and the population, we expect there are going to be increase in the travel and tourism sector. The contribution to the economy of the country is expected to be high in the nearest future. If we look at the world travel and tourism industry it contributes a reasonable amount of percentages to different countries’ GDP and Nigerian shouldn’t be an exception. We are concerned on how to help them grow and compete with the rest of the world. And that is what drove us to the internationally tested and attested software. It is not a try-and-error kind of solution. It starts adding value to the industry as soon as they subscribe to it.

HOTELOGIX and Cloud Computing

We can understand the fears people are having about cloud computing; in spite there are private and public clouds. The story about confidentiality in cloud usage is something that people have been complaining about it, but overtime they have started adopting it. For instance, we all use Yahoo, Google, Gmail, etc.; research has shown that such public email services have proven to be more reliable than company specific email services, over time. I use Yahoo for my private mails and most of the time, it’s up and running; hardly will you get to the point you cannot open it for usage. It is in the cloud and you do not know where it is hosted. The truth is that Nigerians are beginning to adopt cloud services; economic senses have shown them that it is needless to make investment on infrastructure that you use less than 10% of it. The cloud is economical. Today, we are using mobile telephones, but how many of us have built cell sites? It is almost like cloud services, we make calls, send SMS, MMS, share pictures, but we do not own the infrastructure. People just subscribe and use. Do I need to own serve before I can use technology? The answer now is No! The concern about cloud is real, but we can assure our clients that it’s secured, because they will have dedicated private cloud: you will have an administrator, having rights to it. You can delete it anytime you are no interest in continuing with it, even though it is not within your premises.

Reasons For Pay-As-You-Go Pricing

The kind of clientele falls in the range of medium sized hotels. We do not want to discourage them with huge costs. We are looking forward to a mass adoption of the software, because hotels in several cities, outside Nigeria are using. We are asking them to pay per room. Thus, the number of rooms will determine the amount. It’s different from when you charge flat rate; in the sense that a 15-bedroom and 10-edroom hotels will pay the same amount.

Business Environment

We are not here for short time. Our business plan is to make this software become a default for all hotels in the country. Because they are going to get value from it, they will stick to it. And the environment will become beneficial to all involved. I want to re-emphasis that HOTELOGIX provides great opportunities for hoteliers, allowing them to chose features that meet their requirements with flexible pricing. The world has turned a global village and any hotel that wants to be relevant must reach to customers across board. The software enables them to

have a bigger visibility and reach. With the application you reach out to anyone in any part of the country. I would want them to critically look at the solution and leverage on the opportunities it offers them.
