The renowned Google powered mobile OS, Android, has been tipped by IDC to overtake, Apple iOS, as the no. 1 mobile platform in the US this year (2012). However, same cannot be said about the incumbent web and mobile content development standard, Adobe Flash. The emerging open-source web standard, HTML5, has virtually taken over the mantle from Flash.

Android powered devices have been the last bait to keep the embattled platform yet relevant on the mobile front. But, the latest version of Android proves otherwise, as Adobe itself has admitted defeat by HTML5 and readily announced that Flash Player will no longer be supported on Android 4.1, given the capabilities and reach of HTML5 on mobile platforms.

Starting August 15, 2012, only Android devices with pre-installed Flash will continue to get the support, while upgrading to Android 4.1 means no more Flash Player.
