Business / Re: "You Can't Ban Spraying, It's Our Culture" - KSA To Soludo by aahmed112: 1:50pm On Feb 18, 2008 |
Hey folks, i guess it doesnt really follow. As an analogy, do you guys realise the meagre amount u have to steal in China to be sentenced to death, whereas people steal billions here and we tell them, 'just bring half and you can have the rest!' Try messing around with a couple thousands of dollars over der n I guess we'll have 2 c u on the other side!! Im not directly comparing corruption to defacing the naira, but the bane of the issue here is, Peculiar situations, deserve peculiar measures. No one else understands a society's problems mo than itself, period! If thats what hits u, u need 2 hit back too, simple. I strongly think the ultimate aim here is deterrence. I dont think they hope to get everyone locked up for dis, but a few examples wud help loosen that hold this crazy culture has on us rite nw. . .peace! |
NYSC / Re: Nysc Should Be Scrapped! by aahmed112: 1:35pm On Feb 18, 2008 |
Unemployment wud actually b worse if u ask me. A lot of graduates have gotten into big organisations via the NYSC scheme, cos conditions r more relaxed, and they use the period leading up to graduation from the scheme to showcase their capabilities, which in 60-65% of cases, earns them a permanent employment. If everybody out der were 2 jus jump out of university and face all the scrutiny (2:1, foreign trained, OND/HND, masters). . .it wud b quite bad. I agree wit sequencel, reorganisation is probably what we need. There should medical reports certifying graduands fit for the paramilitary routines at camp. There should also be good structures that draft in certain number of graduands to different sectors of the respective states, where they serve. It needs a total overhaul, period!! |
Business / Re: "You Can't Ban Spraying, It's Our Culture" - KSA To Soludo by aahmed112: 12:54pm On Feb 18, 2008 |
we all jus need 2 chill n look at this objectively. . .damaged money costs quite a bit 2 reprint. And for all of u screaming, market women, mamaput and all that crap, the word here is CONTROL, and not ERADICATION!! This law was enacted by CBN and not primarily by the executive govt. . .so I guess it wont b fair comparing a law on the protection of the naira (CBN), and human right laws (Executive govt). |
Business / Re: Transcorp: The Fall Of A Giant? by aahmed112: 12:20pm On Feb 18, 2008 |
not justifying the process that sold NITEL to this company born a giant; but I think the FG shud b more obejctive n try n look forward in this case, there has bin a meeting in the senate and they had given them 6 months to revitalise the company, so why the sudden change of heart?? Managing the financial liability alone is gud enuf to take any person out of sanity. . .blending this with steady growth is definitely not an easy task. o well, I dont know what they have up their sleeves by revoking this deal but I dont see them doing any better. - What is the fall back plan upon the reversal? Are we going to wait for the 'rule of law' kind process from BPE, which should produce a higher bid price from a genuine investor (to be optimistic)? What happens to the operations and all that has been done so far? - What amount of resources has the FG injected in NITEL/MTEL, that concurs to its holding 49% of the company since the sale, be it monetary or intellectual human capacity? I admit there might have been procedural flaws in the sale to Transcorp, but the kind of degradation NITEL as an entity has suffered, both in infrastructure and resources (monetary and intellectually); im not sure what a third shot (with no commiserate improvement) at privatisation would yield for the nation. |

When nigeria becomes good all sectors will benefit from it. No need to argue on this thread. @ tommyvex Thanks for this comment. I cant believe all the crap Ive bin reading. So much emphasis on designing new things. . .n all thats being mentioned are the disciplines that involve technology (electrical and civil). Engineering, n all other sectors cannot grow in isolation of the economy, period! Someone pls give me a discipline that thrives solely on the professionalism of local experts in this country?? Banking, Medicine, Until we are able to get matured enuff and separate politics from real issues, we aint going nowhere. |

@Delta007 Good talk man. . . |
Career / Re: Nigerian Engineers Are Not Competent? by aahmed112: 2:58pm On Feb 05, 2008 |
oi!! Pls lets get this clear. 1. Even overseas, we have the taught and research paths wen u want to study for a masters degree. . .no engr on the taught path ever gets to invest time in thinking and developing new designs, except in a personal capacity. They rather apply the knowledge they get in solving problems (which is what engineering is typically anyways). So I guess we now understand that qualifying as an engineer does not mean u design something new!! 2. All over the world, which I have found nigerian engineers being compared to very often, the profession thrives on its relationship with industries/technical partners. My department had a laboratory which was colocated with the research centre of a first-rate electronics company in europe. They hand us grants every now and then for different projects, good employability for graduates of the department, etc. Now where is that environment in Nigeria Mayb we shud classify engineering in nigeria as one of the professions whose development is being affected by the economy. 3. A technician is someone with a fair theoretical knowledge and very good practical understanding, now hw much practical do our engineers get exposed to Maybe they r not even technicians afterall!!! In conclusion, no matter hw much the government spends on a new lab, they'll have 2 budget the same to maintain it every year! We need industries we can gain their trust, so they can help keep the profession alive. Mother of the Story: The graduates here lack any sort of understanding of the bridge between what they have been given theoretically, and what obtains in the industry. All we produce in nigeria are graduates of engineering; NO ENGINEERS, NO TECHNICIANS!! **This might well not apply to all disciplines of the profession, but it speaks of these disciplines (Electronics/Telecommunications/ICT) driven by constant advancements in technology** |

Career / Re: What Professional Exams Do I Need For Oil Jobs? by aahmed112: 4:52pm On Jan 11, 2008 |
o well. . .d'u mean u always preferred administration within the oil and gas sector? No offence, but u come aross like its for d money, sounding like every other fresh graduate in naija. I guess u jus need to get better at wot u do nw. You in an accounting role nw n going 4 your ACCA. . .mite b good for a move 2 their accounting dept!! In summary, u jus need 2 b qualified! Take a look at some of their job postings n work towards satisfyin their criteria. But Ill advise u get better in your current role (im guessing accounting), more experience n u should b able2 pull s'thing off. . .not forgetting u need a good luck charm! |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Help With Nysc For Foriegn Graduate! by aahmed112: 10:04am On Jan 08, 2008 |
urmm. . .Im not too comfortable with the info u get on their website, cos most of the stuff on it dont change from the initial setup (like most nigerian websites)! But I did enrol for mine in January 2006 (2 yrs ago nw) and I was asked where I wanted to serve. . .n dats wot I got! Though I wudnt b able to tell if it was cos that option was so effective, cos I did have an officer there make sure I got my posting! As per ur job, does the firm understand u are tryin 2 run your NYSC program at the same time? If they do, all you need do is get them to give you a letter of request, addressed to NYSC, n u'll have to use that to wriggle ur way through the NYSC process. You just need to know the right pple to talk to n u shud get it sorted. . .mayb part wit a lil' something cash-like U shud b due in by late July to early august then, have ur certificate ready + all other credentials, go to the secretariat in abuja, fill in the forms appropriately n u shud b gud to go. There's reali no extras to do early on before time. I came in 2 weeks to my start date! Gud luck n hope this helps |

Politics / Re: How Is Your State Governor Doing? by aahmed112: 2:48pm On Nov 22, 2007 |
@poster I dont reali agree wit u on dat! im from Kogi state as well, n i think der has been some gud improvement since Audu left. Unfortunately today, wen we give credit to leaders, it is for what they shud do on the normal; analogy: its like givin credit to a father who takes care of his family or moma who breast feeds her baby! So mayb ill b givin him credit for stuff like roads, schools n all but hey. . .at least they werent this gud b4 he came. dont get me wrong, cud b better, but i think he has done quite a bit. d capital is lit up quite gud, wit gud roads n lightin on the streets. He also deserves some credit wit d university, but i guess he cud do a lot better with water n roads outside the capital. Plus its jus his 1st term done, period of almost every leader wen they r held 2 ransome by those who brought em into power. p.s salary payments are done on time as well. . .(wot a country ) |

Romance / Re: Nigerian Babes And Flowers by aahmed112: 11:47am On Nov 12, 2007 |
bottom line, even d oyibo people don't do anything with d flowers. I got frendz that keep gettin these flower gifts n they jus die n they thrown away, but they r appreciated. Idea of a flower gift is to send a message, period! But owin 2 our society, d level of poverty don scatter d mentality from beginnin. Its mo like, if u want to love me, take me out 2 dinner in place of givin flowers, at least i aint gotta eat tonight (generally speaking this is)! **mother of the story, why spend so much money 2 send a message I wudda understood in mo effective ways!*** that leaves us no choice but 2 go wit d flow that would let us get on jus well wit our sexy naija mamas ! no flowers fellaz! |
