Why gamble though? There is a huge chance one of the children will have sickle cell diseases 50% to be exact. And yes they can live longer now but it's not an easy road to maybe 50 if that.
Please educate yourself about Genotype pairing before spewing trash online. I am disgusted at how Nigerians reason. You are ignorant of something, yet you come online to talk trash as if you are an authority on the issue.

The cellod u take.. does it work well? How much is it?
Plus is it advisable to take anti malarial drugs daily knowing the cell is already somehow resistant to malaria? Also i stopped taking fiofio like 5yrs ago.. back then they grind plenty into powdered form and store it in plenty containers. All i do is use spoon and scoop some in a glass cup add some honey put water mix and drink. Got lazy and stopped.. i took dioscovite but later stopped cos it was scarce. I eat anyhow. . I love oily foods, i so much detest beans till now but i love vegetables. I'm in my mid 20s and i always have crises like crazy especially when i stress myself. Stress is inevitable in my life. If i don't stress how do i make it? I drink lots of water when available but i don't carry water bottle around. All i take now is folic acid and paludrine... but when in crises i add ibuprofen that's all. My crises is the most painful crises in the world that makes stay down for weeks but i take it like a man cos i see it as just pains.
What is still amazing me is that I've never been to the hospital for treatment, check up or whatever since i was born. No drip, No transfusion. . Nothing upon all my frequent crises since i was a kid.
I stopped taking Cellod S a long time ago. I don't know. the present cost now.
NB
Sorry for responding late.

Thanks very much bro. I learnt Amazon doesn't work in Nigeria. Moreso, I had contacted starkey company in the US with my medical report, they said don't sell aids to patients. Also, if I had the opportunity to get it from foreign dealer, it must first be programmed for my ear since it is digital based on my medical report. Unfortunately, western countries don't believe in our medical report unless they did their own test. Smh
Then find someone outside the country who can help you buy it from Amazon. and send it to you.

My ENT specialist at unilorin teaching hospital also recommend such, but the truth is, those hearing aids are not reliable and are very expensive and was also told u have to change those hearing aids battery every 3-6month and those battery cost about 50k or more. Some NGO's also give those hearing aids for free like MTN foundation and others, though i have apply for mine at MTN foundation am still yet to get it about a 1yr now. Wish u the best and God is in control
It's not reliable. Yes. But I wonder the type you guys are talking of that has a battery worth 50k.

I'm a tinnitus patient of over 25 year now. By tinnitus, I mean noise in single or both ears. Though, the real cause and solution is unknown. I had been managing this issue without the use of hearing aid for almost 25 years now. Since last year, things get worse. I could hardly perceived what someone is saying clearly. Right from onset, my ENT doctor prescribed for drugs such as Neurobion, Prednisolone and Vitamin B-complex, unfortunately those couldn't stop the noise nor improves my ears perception to sounds. Three weeks ago, I went for an audiometry test at a reputable teaching hospital in South western part of Nigeria. The doctor diagnose me of Profound hearing loss with tinnitus. He advised that I should purchase a digital hearing aid with sophisticated technologies that even work with phones. He made mention of products such as Siemens Signia, starkey hearing aids. Although, I had contacted most of these companies in nigeria and I received a shocker of my life. The prices of this aids were just too outrageous. The cheapest I heard of cost three hundred and fifty thousand naira (350,000). There are other products from companies such as widex and audifon, but my doctor warned me against them. If there is anyone who had encountered this ailment with relevant prescription or direction to the right dealers/sellers should please share your advise with me. Please, help a brother
Hmmmmmmm at the quoted prices though.
@op, I use a digital hearing aid and infect have been using one since 2008. It is indeed helpful for me (we all differ). But check that quoted price again. Better still order from amazon or if you have someone outside, say UK, ask the person to buy for you and then pay him.
Because of exchange rate, you need to make a budget of 100k or above. but definitely not what is quoted for you.

I don't know if it's too late to answer this, but I hope it help someone else, if not you, in making their decision.
My dad is actually CC, and I can say he is the strongest person in our house. He has no trait of sickle cell. His major sickness is boils, a sign of infection. No pain, no crisis. But medically, it is believed that he is just lucky that people with genotype CC, apart from been sickle cell carrier, are also sickle cell patient. His case may just be 1 in 100.

I advise you see a hematologist for medical advice, not just any doctor.

My take is that if you are not AA, then you must marry AA.

Wish you all the best in any decision you made.
Good response. CC is not that good. And its advised that a CC marries AA .

Hello Abali1,

Is there any herbal supplement that you can vouch for? My sister is on her 5th crisis this year and it seems to be the worst so far. She has tried dioscovite before and i am thinking of getting her somalin and cellod s. She is currently on admission in a tertiary health institution but there has been no improvement. We are tired. Please help. Thank you
Hi ameenahz, I am sorry to hear about your sister, hope she is responding to treatment.
Concerning herbal supplement, I can't vouch for any drug and moreover, our body systems are different. What may work effectively for me, may not work as a effective for another.
Having said that, I can tell you that I have used dioscovite and Cellod-S. But haven't used somalin though I have heard that its equally good. Between the two that I have used, I prefer Cellod-S.
I will advice that you should wait for the hospital to discharge her before introducing herbal medication. Or better still consult her physician, though s/he may discourage the use of herbal medicine.

hmmm life has not been easy for the past one year. I met this lady at the university and proposed to her. it took me two years before winning her heart. For the first six months, my beautiful, loving and caring girlfriend seemed disturbed whilst I was Okay having her around me even though I was disturb too for her unhappiness which I didn't know the cause. whenever I said I love you, she hesitantly responded but when I ask her Would you love me forever she will say "that time is yet to come for all of us to decide especially you " . I never understood her. She did not show any sign of living with the SC type of sickle cell condition. she indeed show care for me as I also love her. When we were going for vacation she asked me to check my blood type, HIV and sickle cell status. I love the girl and for that matter conducted the tests she instructed me to do. But to my disappointment I turned out to be AS. with no sign of my lover been a person living with sickle cell, I submitted the report with the idea that even if she is not AA and she is AS we can still continue.

But it wasn't what I was thinking. she is rather living with SC condition of sickle cell. I try to frame my statement in different ways to seek the opinions of friends about such a relationship in which the danger of putting an innocent child into pain but all answers comes in the form of separation. Anytime the issue of breakup comes to mind tears become our food for the day. It is difficult on each of us part to let the other go but all avenues seems blocked for the continuation of our relationship. I always take her to hospital when she falls sick .In fact I cannot say when she is sick I won't attend to her but as much as she falls sick and I am with her my love for her increases. She has become part of my life and living far from her always send me signals that I have neglected my calling. I look at myself and sometimes I think anybody who hear of this will insult me that I am crazy and irrational. For this reason I have no one to discuss this with except on social media where no one knows this insane guy writing. I know I will still look irrational in the eyes of some but those who care should express themselves to help.
Let her go. Trust God for another. The pains is not worth it.

Nice move by Zahra. I wonder what type(s) of drugs was shared out.
I am of the opinion that educating those children more about Sickle cell disease and how to manage it, will be a lot better than sharing out drugs. In the absence of a crisis, the importance of those drugs would be lost.

Valfrankie:
I don't see any new discovery made in this report, I 've always known about the stem cell transplant, just like many of us here do, ok maybe the elimination of the chemotherapy session made it new. Dear fellow warriors, it is nor yet uhuru, this report is too sketchy to elicit any sigh of relief. The questions we should be asking include:

1. Will take transplant take place in Ibadan or the US?

2. How affordable to the common warrior in the street 'll it be?

3. Has any transplant been so far carried out in IBADAN?

These and many other questions should be answered before we can roll out the drums and celebrate. I also think if this is true, the government through the Nigeria Sickle Cell foundation should make it available to all warriors at little or no cost (as was done for HIV ART drugs, though this is different). I still believe in the Naija dreams, the future is bright! GOD bless all warriors.

Cc. Abali, Chi59 and all warriors present.
The real difference apart from the Absence of Chemotherapy, is that, Adults can actually be cured through this process. The previous processes only involved children.
And yes the cost is going to be a huge hindrance to many people accessing this procedure.
