Crime / Re: Britain's Witch Children - African 'churches' Abusing Children In The Uk by ada24: 7:59am On Jul 30, 2010 |
I'm no PHD holder in mental health or social studies but something hit me this morning regarding this topic. A lot of people who attend these churches are people who have lived in Africa and are new arrivals in the country - both adults and children. This sort of change and shift in cultural and social norms can bring about any sort of problems and adjustments to any human being. Now a lot of people may become depressed or feel isolated (after all the UK can be a very lonely place at times). As many of you know depression is still seen as a taboo in our culture and some people still don't believe that Nigerians can suffer from this with the thinking that it is an oyinbo illness. Also u have to understand that a lot of children that follow their parents to these churchs also have the problem of adapting to both cultures. So u have isolated depressed Nigerians seeking some sort of way out of their undiagnosed illness and some of them want to be around people like them - fellow Nigerians/Africans thinking it will make them feel better then they fall prey to these "pastors" cos of their vulnerable state. Now this pastor knowing how to manipulate this vulnerability will get as much information from you to know tell you what he thinks the problem is. Imagine a case of a single mother with 3 kids, maybe is not in the county legally and is doing minimum wage jobs just to fee her family - obviously there will be times when she will be feeling depressed and despair - she goes to church and tells the pastor that she has a sadness and darkness in her life and things just don't see to be moving for her. Now the pastor probably knows she is depressed giving her situation but instead he will tell her that one of her kids is a which or that demons are in her head and she should bring £500 for deliverance. i know i have not gone as in depth as i would have liked but I'm sure u guys can get the general gist of what I'm saying. not all pastors are fake but a huge number of them are. I'm still trying to understand how any of those pastors in the documentary have any kind of credibility after labelling the under cover journalist as a witch when her story was false. |

can someone explain to me how the undercover journalist can make up a story and then the pastor diagnoses demon possession and nobody questions him. the one that made me sick was Kays story. sex for prayers? i don't have the energy for a long response except why do people who claim to have intelligence be so gullible - yes everybody deserves a good life but how can a pastor be asking for money in exchange for prayers. plus why is deya still in the uk, honestly the home office is not doing a good job |

to answer the question - YES. if in 2010 this question is being asked then its quite sad. |
Family / Re: Travelling After 28 Weeks Pregnant by ada24: 1:02am On Jul 27, 2010 |
siena i guess chemail has answered the question. he seems to be very passionate about it but refuses to insult the people who have made the same observations on a topic in the health section. siena i don't need to justify where i am right now - if people think i'm in some remote village in nigeria and looking to run to england to give birth let them think that if it helps them sleep better at night. yes the post was deleted not cos of the bullying i experienced but my so called lies. whatever!! i doubt i will travel again and will remain here in the UK, if i'm that desperate for a holiday i'll go to malta or portugal or somewhere close for a long weekend. siena i'm sure u can understand that the days of taking a weekend break or 2 week holiday for now is out of the question with your little girl. just trying to get one last trip b4 the baby. |
Family / Re: Chose Between Nigeria And Hundred Million Dollars by ada24: 12:33am On Jul 27, 2010 |
siena - imagine the question. i would take the 100mil and gladly not set foot again. 100million versus what the poster is offering - is that meant to be a trick question. i'd invest it and live a happy life |
Crime / Re: Nigerian-Americans Killing Their Spouses In The Us - (1) by ada24: 11:59pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
pushed to which wall. i know u men prefer the naija situation where u kick the wife out and leave her and the kids to suffer - at least in the states they understand that children need stability and therefore the mother is given the house so that the kids can remain in the house - its not about male bashing but what is best for the children. and yes a man should feel the full force of the law if he abuses his wife - is she a dog? or is the one u men do back home and kill ur wives and say its kidney failure, cancer or heart attack or she is misbehaving. yes there are some bad women everywhere - but why go and bring a woman over who will eventually open her eyes wider than those based there - trust me village chicks of today and not the ones of yesterday. if u know u can't adapt to western life stay in Nigeria - it is very simple or better still move to Afghanistan - i hear there women are treated like second class citizens as well |
Crime / Re: Nigerian-Americans Killing Their Spouses In The Us - (1) by ada24: 11:46pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
oyinda.: don't mind the fool. is it not one story i heard in nigeria where the man beat his pregnant wife to lead to miscarraige and then when she fled to her fathers house told both sides of the extended family that she aborted the baby. some of these men on this board should take the infalted male ego out of it and look at this intelligently - u cannot behave like an animal in the western world with ur wife - if u know that u will loose everything when u divorce work on ur marriage - don't kill her or start making her life hell. if she is helping financially u must do little things in the home to help just as she is helping u keep the home. its nt rocket science |
Crime / Re: My Uncle Raped Me by ada24: 11:42pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
i have already informed my husband no man is staying in my house if we have daughters - if they must come they stay in hotel and are NEVER left alone with my daughters. i don't care who the man is be it pastor or brother - it is not allowed. sexual abuse is not funny and very serious and toooooooooooo common |
Crime / Re: Nigerian-Americans Killing Their Spouses In The Us - (1) by ada24: 11:28pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
chiogo: don't mind them the only news is to be showing national assembly everyday and one nonsense project a governor is commissioning or discussing football. spousal abuse is never reported, u only hear of child molestation in newspapers, people are always talking about how a woman should behave and keep her home but ultimately if a man is the head the resposibilty of the success or failure of his home and marriage is on their head. instead u have ignorant mothers telling off the daughter in law and not the son. NONSENSE. |
Crime / Re: Why Do We Have So Many Rapists In 9ja Nowadays? by ada24: 11:16pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
because they don't get punished i have met men in nigeria that don't even think there is anything like rape, look at some of the news stories we read on nairaland - a man rapes his 12 yr old daughter and blames her, |

unhappy is not the same as successful - a lot of women remain in unhappy marrigaes in nigeria for various reasons. i wasn't even talking about Igbo talking about naija as a whole. Some of u men say that women have too much power cos they call police when u beat them in the US - don't u men know that hitting a grown adult is a crime. |
Crime / Re: Nigerian-Americans Killing Their Spouses In The Us - (1) by ada24: 10:08pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
only truth - walking from nnewi to abia - are u suggesting in the age of kidnapping u would be happy for your wife to do the same. remember a lot of women back then were not educated - God forbod her loosing her husband and being at the mercy of her husbands people. please think about this - a society that has a regard for women, children and the elderly generally tend to be progressive and civilised. where woman and children are considered 2nd class that society has a long way to go, politically, socially and economically. |

i think we mothers of the new generation should train our sons a lot better than the mothers of the past and current crop of adult men. i know of a case where the husbands mother told the daughter in law to stop doing those things that will make her husband (her son) beat her - um excuse me should her son be beating a woman. honestly when i heard this story i had to blame alot of the man's behaviour at the mother. Nigerian culture lays a lot of blame on a woman for all sorts of things even the provision of the male child which can only be determined from the man, childlessness, the man cheating the man beating you up even miscarriage is blamed on a woman - when will our culture progress |

wait o what the F*** is deya still doing in the UK - this man has no shame - so his wife is in jail for kidnapping and this man is getting fat in london to the xtent he is being filmed and not even hiding. this is one shameless "pastor" that needs to be punished in Kenya where he is wanted. |
Politics / Re: Britain's Witch Children by ada24: 9:24pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
Cohomology: only slapping hmmmmmmm any pastor that should tell me that about this my child will want to be slapped by the time i am done with him. life is hard for many african immigrants here and there is no wonder many people fall prey to these evil pastors - yes they are evil. anyone that can label a child or seek sexual favours from female members is evil. there are many reasons why a child may misbehave or why things may not be going well in a family - why label an innocent child. |
Politics / Re: Britain's Witch Children by ada24: 9:16pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
watching it now on 4+1 honestly i'm so tired of this problem in our community. the undercover journalist is right about how nobody wants to talk bad against pastors - that is why there are so many fake pastors today they believe the are untouchable. abi its only african children that are witches abeg this is just arrant nonsense and makes me cry. oh and on another note the girl "kay" is just one of many both here in the uk and in nigeria - so the pastor needs sex for her family to get better - truely disgusting. |
