Politics / The Nigerian State, Our Leaders, Politicians And We As A People by adelinks(m): 12:10pm On Jul 24, 2014
The Nigerian State, Our Leaders, Politicians and we as a People

It disheartening to see the daily news awash with scene of mass murder and bombing in this country of ours!

Our so called “leaders” consistently fail to see that the monsters they created yesterday will one day come to hunt all including themselves as well. NO, NO, NO ! No amount of police escorts nor amour will protect the few whom have subjected many into untold hardship.

Our politicians fight for their interest at the expense of the masses. I often ask myself when they do this- do they honestly think they can escape the repercussions? Politicians will hire unemployed youths to campaign and arm them to perform acts of thuggery only to abandon them after elections (selections really sometimes) thereby creating little monsters in the communities. With poverty and unemployment these little monster grow to become serious problems in the society. Our Senators, and House members earn staggering allowances and benefits in a nation bedeviled with poor infrastructure, unemployment, corruption and insecurity to mention but a few.

But is this only about the leaders and Politicians? What about we the followers who are also leaders in our own circles. The manager who would only employ his kinsmen into the organization s/he works. Or the school owner who exploits the unemployment situation in the country and pays an unfair wage to his/her teachers. Or is it the contractor who uses substandard products all in an effort to make more profit. Our the drug dealer who sell expired drugs... We the masses as a whole are consistently at the receiving end of bad government policies yet we are the same people that vote in ineptitude. People will gather to give chairmanships and chieftain titles to people whose source of income we can not vouch for.

Today, it's all about money, where are those values we were known for as a people? We have so much pushed values away – You will be shocked what the successive next generation thinks. Now a days everyone wants to hit it big at the drop of a hat! “Work hard,go to school” where what some of us were taught growing up. Now you see teenagers and young adults who just want make it big by any means necessary. But do you blame them, when they can see first class graduates still on the street looking for a job. Or a “graduate” who ends up riding an “Okada” to survive.

Sometimes we promote policies that tend to divides more than it unites us. Or worse off , encourages ineptitude in our National Services; We operate quota systems in service appointments, military and even education thereby stifling professionalism and productivity. We operate a (pseudo-) Federal system yet our revenue allocation is largely unitary – the federating units are not encouraged to compete via productivity. The in thing is to pledge loyalty to the center and be spoon fed monthly allocation. Even in the face of insecurity state police is still a debate.

Yet people forward promo via Face book and other social fronts to campaign for 2015. Some are even friends of mine. But how do you campaign in the face of the bombings, kidnappings (About 200 girls abducted yet to be recovered), unemployment, insecurity, corruption … geeze!!!

These people should remember - a people can exist without a formal leader, But there can NEVER be a formal leader without the people.

Some of us may feel that we are in that “comfort zone”. Helloooo, reality check! The bombings have begun to move down south and away from the North East.

Only God can save us but it must start with us – Yes you and I speaking up and acting, after all,God has given us all that we need to succeed.

I LOVE my country but truth must be told. Please give it a thought.

P.S: This is not about APC,PDP,APGA,LABOUR or any other political group.

@ Guyman
What i am about to say may shock you and every other person. But it is what i have learnt about life. You last post didn't show you as a decisive person.Someone has asked you to send your CV and you are still waiting for instructions?

You say you are so broke, you are using the very last dim to browze - i want to believe it isn't that bad. However, I want to ask you these questions?
Are you saying there is absolutely no skill or talent you have that can fetch you atleast money to feed and scout for a better job.Are you saying that you can not even get a job as a lesson teacher within your locality while you look for a job?Have you identified what it is you love doing for which not many people can compete with you.Take a honest time out to write down what skills or training you have acquired since 2004.What's your ultimate goal in life. What kind of people do you surround youself with?
i believe you should look inward and try to do things differently.God has given us all we need to succeed.I must advice let your motivation be inward.Read books written by Napolion Hill Think and grow rich,Bryan' 21 success secrets,

i'll give you my story.i also graduated in 2004. and served in the deep desert in Bauchi While others where complaining God favourd me.while in bauchi i started a computer training center that thrived with just my NYSC allowance of N7500.i have taught GCE/SSCE students at a point,at other times i had being a sales representative, today i work as a project manager, and still searching. But what i want you to draw from this is that you should keep updating yourself and learning new things everyday.Follow your passion/talent not just what you learnt at school- i studied Materials engineering but at a time i had worked in a telecoms company as a Database analyst.at a timei also felt as though every of my mate had left me behind, but always remember not to set your pace by looking at anotherman's watch cause even the tortise and snail got into Noah's ark!And most importantly TRUST God.

I'm looking out for you testimony.

If you think that this has been beneficial then mail me at shylinks2@yahoo.com

i am highly impressed by you contribution to the thread,Modu. I will also like to share my experience. I am a project/facility manager with about 3years experience. My strategy to attain top management position is to obtain a PMI and a MBA even though i have an engineering background.i think that blend will give the neccessary experince, professional certification and paper qualification to get to the top in project management.what do you think?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Help With Guiness Assessment Interview by adelinks(m): 8:56am On Sep 27, 2007
If it is a computer based personality test, it will be a set of question tailor to produce a pattern of who you really are and basically if you have the personality required .My advice is to show that you are assertive, a leader and a winner. But if it is the assessment center type-expect four sections: a one -on -one interview, a group discussion presentation and an essay or two. All the best!
