Literature / Of Gods And Hens By Nlebedim Nzube Harry by AfricanBard: 12:41pm On Nov 20, 2020
Groundnut tusks falling on ground

Dusty from disuse

And starvation

Hens pecking up remnants

Thrown from masters’ tables

On grounds

Brown from dirt

And fertility.

Beaks peck beaks in war internecine

Over remnant taken over

As operation Trojan Horse

Actualizes itself

Grains fall here and fall there

Alas! 360 degree circulation

A diversion

A division of a people.

Saliva drops downward

To perched soils

As parched throats quack to get

The lion share

Operation Feed za Nation!

Melons red as blood

100 percent spittle-corrugated

Oh, well, it is the national cake.

One course meal on a platter…

No, not of gold, but

Of hot blood

Of patriot hens fighting

For a redemption

Lost in the vague abyss of 1914

Freedom’s now a course long overdue

Stretching round degree 360 since 1960.

Bigger beaks, bigger take

The small seek

Their grains unfound

God hen and chicks

Wrestle along dusty, futile paths

The dark owl hoots on an iroko

Sounding the dirge

Of destruction of the umpteenth Order

Literature / The Long Night By Chibuzo Emelogu by AfricanBard: 12:24pm On Nov 20, 2020
Every day I wake up to the same dream.

When will all this end? When will I flip to the next page?

It hurts so deep I can’t scream.

Silent echoes as I’m trapped in my own cage.

My best clothes are now my worst.

My worst clothes are now my best.

Celebrations and gatherings have now been lost to memories.

The world is now indeed empty.

Despite all odds the birds still sing.

Despite all odds the sun still shines.

Even though out there is without fun,

The world surely still goes on.

Now,we all know what’s more important.

Happiness is the essence, Humility is key.

Whenever the long night comes to an end,

In unity and love let’s appreciate LIFE.

Romance / Photos: Transgender Man Pregnant With A Second Child by AfricanBard: 1:41pm On Jul 07, 2020
A New York city based transgender, Kayden Cole is pregnant with his second child.

According to dailymail.co.uk, Cole, 33 began his body transformation journey from female to male in 2009. In 2013, after he was forced to stop taking testosterone for his mastectomy, he was completely shocked to discover he was five months pregnant with his first child. Kayden’s daughter Azaelia who is now six year old.

Earlier this year, Coleman was amazed when he found out he was seven-weeks pregnant. The 33-year-old has not had genital construction surgery and has kept his female reproductive organs. So now, currently in a relationship with his 29-year-old boyfriend Dominique, Kayden is expecting his second child.

The couple cannot wait to welcome baby number two, despite previously facing backlash from haters dubbing Kayden a ‘monster’.

The LGBT care worker shares:

“I do enjoy parts of being pregnant like the fact it makes my beard thicker. But I don’t get the same pregnancy privileges because it is not obvious that I’m carrying a child, people just assume it’s a beer belly, so people don’t give up their seat for me or hold doors open.”

“I never wanted to wear a bra and I knew that even if I didn’t transition I would have had a reduction. But I never had bottom surgery because it’s expensive, there are often a lot of complications with it and it can numb things sexually.”

“When Azaelia was born there were a lot of people who said they felt sorry for her and that she would grow up and be confused. They said that she should be taken away and called me a monster. But it’s important for people to understand that we have full autonomy over our bodies and we should do with it as we please. I can’t wait to meet my second baby and Azaelia is so excited about having a little brother or sister.”

Kayden realized he wanted to be a man at the age of 20. Three years later, he began his transitioning journey by taking testosterone. It was all going well until he had to stop taking his transition hormones, as he found out he was pregnant with his first baby.

Unfortunately, sharing his story with the online world brought him loads of hate from trolls slamming him for ‘confusing’ his daughter.

Describing his transformation journey, Coleman wrote:

“I knew I wanted to transition in 2007 but at that time there weren’t very many resources and a female to male transition wasn’t very common. If you went on Google and searched for testosterone you would get some sketchy website based in India and it was hard to find binders for your chest. I identified as a lesbian at the time and my girlfriend was not okay with me transitioning and tried to talk me out of it so it wasn’t until 2009 that I started the process.”

Celebrities / They Are Vixens Not Romantic Objects By John Chizoba Vincent by AfricanBard: 5:55pm On Jul 03, 2020
They Are Vixens Not Romantic Objects By John Chizoba Vincent

“The phenomenon of the video vixen dates back to 1989, when 2 live crew brought Miami base to hip hop scene with the joint “Me so Hot “, turning the scantily clad woman into an archetype. Over the past three decades, the genre has become a career path for countless young women trying to get on in a male dominated industry that gives aspiring models, dancers, and performers the space to present their bodies as objects of desire” - Huck Magazine.

The industry has gone bad in many ways; women are treated like intimacy gadgets; as flirt objects or rather an object of satisfaction. It is very common among our directors these days giving a green light to these ladies who take turns to visit them one after the other so that they could be called upon in the next job. In so doing, these directors end up not using them at the end of the day. This is not inclusive to all music video directors, film directors or model agencies; we still have a good number of them out there who are truly good or dedicated to their jobs or career.

Although these women are just working in the system where majority are men while the least are women, giving them a unique advantage is necessary in other not to push them into believing that you must sleep with a music video director before you could be fixed on the job. Or rather, having most directors believe that these ladies who are out there exposing their body in the name of fending for themselves could be used as a intimacy gadget.

In a 2007 interview with video vixen Melissa Ford, she stated how girls have to fight for the attention because there are up to 90 women on set willing to do anything to get camera exposure. For most women in a music video, they do get much airtime and it does not elevate them to other opportunities. Kevin Powell chimed in saying that you can still have females in a video, but there has to be a balance between that and other themes like the 1980s and 1990s.

My personal opinion is that there is nothing innately wrong with women being proud of their sexuality in videos and entertaining the audience, but having the whole depict fifty women shaking their buttocks in front of the cameras, when men are not doing same thing is just wrong. Having them have to satisfy the artiste or the director at the end of the video shoot is uncalled for. They should be a balance between them and their career. Their body should not be used as an exchange for the money they are supposed to collect at the end of the day.. Don’t allow any artiste to rough handle you on set in the name of you trying to shake up your buttock in front of the camera or trying to please the audience that will watch the video later. Place a value on your body. Get a manager if possible and that manager should be in the position to tell the client what you can do and those things you can and would never do. You are a vixen and not a intimacy gadget or tool for immorality.

For years, the modeling industry has been criticized for how it does not protect the rights of its workers. Many vixens and models have spoken out about the sexual harassment and emotional pressures faced by underaged girls in the business, and the vixen health and prospect are the subject of heated argument. Do these girls have a future after exposing their body in countless videos? Can a man still see them and look back with a smile of how pretty their body is? What does the future holds for these women?

These are questions and more and more of them we will keep asking ourselves about these women on every screen in our home. Do they really have something that triggers them to do this work or are they doing it for its pleasures? How can we help these ladies to become better women in our society? Let’s save these ladies, they are vixens and not sex objects.

Politics / RIP Abiola Ajimobi By Tony Ademiluyi by AfricanBard: 5:19pm On Jul 03, 2020
The eternal words of English Playwright, William Shakespeare ring true of the late Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi. ‘Some are born great, others achieve greatness while the rest have greatness thrust upon them.’ Ajimobi was the epitome of the second type of greatness as he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
It was the same Shakespeare who said that ‘When beggars die no comets are seen but the Heavens themselves blaze forth at the death of Princes.’ As said earlier on, he wasn’t of rich or noble birth but his actions in his lifetime made his death one of the biggest highlights of 2020.
The corona virus pandemic has overtaken the news and airwaves especially since the lockdown was held in March with many businesses still shut down till now. Ajimobi’s death is one of those grand news stories which aims at diverting the minds of Nigerians from the ailment that has claimed the lives of the high and mighty including Ajimobi himself as he was said to have succumbed to the cold hands of deaths through a covid 19 related complication.
Ajimobi has his formative years in the ancient city of Ibadan before he sojourned to the United States of America for the proverbial Golden Fleece. While in Uncle Sam as the US is also fondly called, he had to pull himself by the bootstraps to face the grinding poverty that was the lot of most black students by becoming a mortuary attendant. The job made him kill the fear of death as he washed the bodies of the high and low who were leveled down by the inevitability of the grim reaper.
He excelled in his studies and resisted the temptation to remain in the US on economic exile by returning back to his motherland to diligently serve her.
His triumphal entry back to the country coincided with when the nation was at the peak of the oil boom when former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon made a famous statement that there was ‘much money without knowing how to spend it.’ He joined the then government owned National Oil and rose through the ranks to ending up as its Managing Director. As a corporate guru and boardroom impresario, he dined and wined with the high and mighty and his views were well sought after by the financial media.
After the sale of National Oil to Dr. Mike Adenuga in a privatization round, he invariably became redundant. Rather than go into private business as was the path that was the norm for someone of his caliber, he decided to do something totally differently by heeding the call to public service.
In 2003, he got elected into the Nigerian Senate. As a member of the red chamber and the nation’s highest law making body, he contributed his quota to his fatherland by sponsoring some bills especially with regards to the development of the oil and gas sector which was his previous forte.
In 2007, he went into political limbo as he lost his re-election bid to represent Oyo South in the Red Chamber. ‘Winners never quit and quitters never win’ seemed to be his mantra as he bounced back into political reckoning with his election as the Governor of Oyo State in 2011.

His legacy as Governor is mixed. On the one hand, some of his die-hard fans opine that he was a stellar performer who broke the jinx of being elected for two terms – something that even the legendary Late Chief Bola Ige couldn’t do in 1983 when he surprisingly lost to Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, his critics contended that his administrative style brought pains to the people of Oyo state. They pointed out to his humiliation of the Olubadan of Ibadan by attempting to elevate some High Chiefs to beaded traditional rulers, the demolition of the studio of popular artiste, Yinka Ayefele, his haughtiness when addressing the students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) when he referred to himself as the ‘constituted authority’ whom the students had no right to disrespect amongst a litany of ‘mortal sins.’ His critics contended that his unpopularity cost him to lose the Oyo South Senatorial seat when he attempted to return to the Senate and the All Progressives Congress (APC) losing to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He subsequently became the Deputy National Chairman South of the APC and was appointed the Party Chairman after the judicial ouster of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. His ill health where he was battling for his life at the First Cardiology Consultants Hospital in Lagos prevented him from physically taking over the highly esteemed office.
Like many great men, his death was initially shrouded in mystery. We recall in the late 1980’s when Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was said to have passed on. He had to debunk the ill founded rumour and was said to have said that he will attend the funerals of all those who masterminded it.

Popular investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo said he had joined his ancestors much earlier than the date of the official announcement of his death. His daughter-in-law, Fatima Ganduje-Ajimobi debunked it as well as his media aide, Bolaji Tunji.
Even after it was confirmed that he had paid the supreme price, his wife, Florence said that he was abandoned by the state government led by his successor, Seyi Makinde. It was later discovered that the government tried to reach out to her but she rebuffed their overtures for reasons best known to her. The alarm raised by her was totally unnecessary as there was no need to politicize his demise. She may have said it out of emotional anguish as she was mourning her life partner so once can conveniently excuse her outburst.
From conquering both the private and public sectors, one can say that indeed Ajimobi came, saw and conquered as he bestrode both sectors like a Colossus with the swagger of a General in the days of the Roman Empire of yore.
Death – the only debt no mortal can escape will come when it will come but the most important thing is to leave legacies for the incoming generation to reflect on so that your stay can be aptly said to be ‘The celebration of life.’
Rest in peace Ajimobi; sleep well and eternally rest from life’s labours. May his legacies speak for him since he has no voice to echo his achievements!
Sun re o!

Politics / Ize-iyamu Vs Obaseki: The Wheel Comes Full Circle By Tony Ademiluyi by AfricanBard: 5:09pm On Jul 03, 2020
In 2016, political pundits opined that the successor to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole would be Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The Redeemed Christian Church of God Area Pastor had come a long way in the game called politics. He started it long before Oshiomhole dreamt of becoming the Governor of the state fondly known as the ‘Heartbeat of the Nation.’
As far back as the 1980’s, he was the personal assistant to Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion while the latter was the Chairman of Oredo Local Government when the country operated a zero party political structure. He later became the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government between 1999 and 2007 when Igbinedion held sway at the Dennis Osadebay Avenue.
He formed the Grace Group in 2007 as a vehicle to succeed his boss but the fact that he was from Edo South – the same senatorial district as his boss made it impossible to immediately succeed him. He later used the group as a bargaining chip when he defected to the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to throw his weight behind the ambition of Oshiomhole as nobody from Edo North where he hailed from had never been the Governor of the State. Despite the fact that he initially lost the election to Professor Oserhimen Osunbor in 2007, the court was able to give him victory the following year.
Ize-Iyamu then became the National Vice Chairman of the ACN South-South with his political clout soaring. He was the Director-General of the second term campaign team in 2012 for the Comrade Governor and he was viewed by party faithful as the ‘Governor-in-waiting’ due to his relationship with Oshiomhole. He was so influential that he ensured that Oshiomhole won the entire eighteen local governments in the state by a landslide.
Oshiomhole shocked his followers by throwing his weight behind Godwin Obaseki who was in charge of his economic management team. The latter was a political neophyte who had made a name for himself in Lagos as a technocrat of note and was the founder of Afrinvest – a boutique non bank financial services firm.
Obaseki rarely talked during the ferocious campaign that got the garrulous Ize-Iyamu who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ask whether he was deaf and dumb. Oshiomhole who has the gift of the garb did all the talking while his then protégé followed him meekly like a lamb.
In the end Obaseki won and the embittered Ize-Iyamu went to court where he lost at all levels.
No sooner than Obaseki got sworn in that he began to assert himself as the state’s chief executive who should not just be in office but also in power. Before long, he clashed seriously with Oshiomhole as he wanted to put a stop to his perceived ‘overbearing’ nature.
The State House of Assembly couldn’t be inaugurated as most of the members were Oshiomhole’s loyalists and were seen as threats. There was an order that Oshiomhole had to seek Obaseki’s permission before visiting the state. Oshiomhole was suspended by his ward as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The House of Assembly was sworn in with minority members said to be loyal to the Governor with a Speaker emerging to the chagrin of democracy lovers.
Political analysts contend that Obaseki failed to make himself available for all the reconciliation efforts that the stakeholders wanted to make to resolve the crisis including the intervention of Africa’s wealthiest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The second term ambition of Obaseki led to serious cracks within the APC as Ize-Iyamu, his arch nemesis defected to the party ostensibly with the blessings of the erstwhile Boss of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Oshiomhole who had apparently ‘forgiven’ him of his numerous ‘sins.’
The APC Screening Committee screened Obaseki out of the race on grounds of certificate discrepancy from the University of Ibadan where he studied Classics and graduated in 1979. He then saw the handwriting on the wall when he resigned his membership of the APC and then moved into the PDP a few days later.
Not surprisingly, Ize-Iyamu won the APC ticket after the former Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu and Osaze Obazee stepped down at the 11th hour. Obaseki also got the ticket after his main rival, Kenneth Imasuagbon a.k.a The rice man stepped down at the last minute.
Political ‘Seers’ were right when they predicted the swap of parties between Ize-Iyamu and Obaseki in 2016 and 2020.
Who will carry the day on September 19, 2020? It promises to be a battle royale as both men are equally formidable.
Obaseki has the advantage of the power of incumbency and the empathy of many Edolites who see him as a liberator from the stranglehold of Oshiomhole’s alleged godfatherism. He has the propaganda machinery at his beck and call which can swing public opinion in his favour.
Ize-Iyamu has the edge of being an old political warhorse who has fought and won many political battles. He has the edge of being a grassroots mobilize as well as the fact that the APC controls the federal government and their desire to increase the number of states that they control.
The APC can take the alleged certificate scandal of Obaseki to the next level by ensuring that he gets a disqualification as a way of blocking his chances of coming back for a second term while the PDP can throw up the card of Ize-Iyamu’s alleged 700 million naira fraud case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to also get him disqualified from the race.
The duo hail from Edo South which is the largest voting bloc in the state and the state is traditionally almost equally divided between the APC and PDP. It will be a fight to finish as both men have a lot at stake. Obaseki would love to return for a second term so as to spite Oshiomhole his friend turned adversary while it will be Ize-Iyamu’s final chance to become the governor since power will leave the south and go to either the north or central as a gentleman’s agreement exists among the stakeholders on power rotation. By the time it will return to the south, he will be 74 and too old to contest for the state’s top seat.
Will Obaseki emerge two time lucky with the latter being on his own terms? Will Ize-Iyamu upset the apple cart and humble Obaseki? Will the people come out in large numbers to vote despite the corona virus pandemic?

September 19 will surely come to pass.

Celebrities / Dbanj Rape Saga: Guilty Or Not Guilty? by AfricanBard: 10:28am On Jun 25, 2020
There has been recent happenings on rape, rape allegations, the victims of rape and whether rapists will or will not be brought to justice. A lot of rapists are being uncovered, and old rape issues are also been brought out. This seems like positivity as rape victims received more and more courage to speak up. In addition to these are various groups, organisations, including students bodies and organisations, taking it to the streets to protest against rape and also against the injustice and neglect that rape victims experience in the country. Recent happenings have also exposed more and more rapists, while investigations are ongoing on some of them.
Amidst all of this, some celebrities have had to delete their tweets of years back suggesting they are either capable of rape, they have raped or they see no wrong in forcefully violating a person. An example is one of DMW's artiste Tobechukwu Victor Okoh popularly known by his stage name "Peruzzi", who deleted his tweets from 2012, these tweets were full of words suggesting he could rape and he sees nothing wrong in it.
Following these events is Seyitan Babatayo, a young lady who accused popular Nigerian Afropop singer Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo a.k.a. D’banj of been a perpetrator of the same thing he preaches against when the later posted on his twitter page a stand against rape message. Seyitan accused D’banj of hypocrisy on June 3rd, 2020, this might seem to be an accusation but Seyitan in her story said that D’banj gained access into her hotel room, and forcefully raped her on 30th December 2018. The events that followed this is D’banj through his legal representative demanding 100 million naira for damages..
However, what broke the camel's back and made a mess of the situation which would later backfire on the accused D’banj was the unlawful arrest of Miss Seyitan at her residence by 4 police officers, her detainment in a police cell for close to 48 hours, her denial of access to her phones, her lawyers, without making it known to her the core reason for her arrest.
The later was quoted by the said victim to have said he could buy off any anyone within the justice system of Lagos state. Miss Seyitan released an official complaint yesterday, 24th of June 2020, detailing the happenings that has ensued since the 3rd of June when she called out D’banj. How she was arrested, how she was denied access to her lawyer, how she was forced to retract her allegations, and how much has been raised by well meaning Nigerians to support her.
It is to be noted that, that instead of refuting directly the accusation, Dbanj instead, wrote on his twitter page how he lost his son, and how he is yet to recover from it. The next step that would follow is the outright violation of Miss Seyitan's human rights.
Clearly, the exposition of this is that, the police force could do anything at the sight of money, and that human rights are empty words on paper. There are human rights until money is involved.
While the truth is yet to be known, Daniel Oyebanjo a.k.a D’banj has obviously taken the wrong steps he could be charged for. These steps are suggesting two things, he is either impulsive or power drunk or he knew something about the rape. There are right legal steps to take outside of unlawful arrest, intimidation, and violation of human rights and it is a shame that someone like D’banj, doesn't know better. However, we wait as the truth unfolds.

Celebrities / Reason Why D’banj Was Set Up With Rape Allegation by AfricanBard: 6:32pm On Jun 23, 2020
Pharmacist turned investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo said that D’banj was set up in the alleged rape scandal by his ex manager, Frank Amudo who teamed up with the accuser, Seyitan to extort money from the Koko master because of his recent Heritage Bank deal.
She wrote:
“@seyitannn_ you are a LIAR young lady! I don’t represent @iamdbanj nor take sides. I defend media freedom and in my opinion you should confess because you have DEFAMED the musician and his family. I will now expose the facts on #Kemitalksrape YOU make it hard for victims.”

“@seyitannn_you did NOT tweet these allegations. Your friend who tweeted them for you on instructions of Frank Amudo, DBanj’s FIRED mgr. She contacted me. This is extremely fraudulent as you presented yourself as a RAPE VICTIM. @PoliceNGtake note. Those tweets now deleted!”

“@seyitannn_Just like @timidakoloyou used useless INUENDOS to get attention of an alleged rapist. Your tweet handler now ex pal turned the handle into a charade. You gave sympathizers the impression that DBanj’s team “hijacked” your handle. No evidence from @TwitterSupport
