When it comes to choosing an antivirus, there are many things to consider. What's your computer usage like? How frequently is it connected to the internet- mine is almost 24 hrs (not yahoo, yahoo or what they call it)? etc

Norton is hopeless. Get it out of your system as soon as you can. You'll discover your system would run boot faster and generally improve in performance. However, when uninstalling don't use any uninstaller/control panel removal tool except the free norton removal tool available from symantec. Reason is that it removes all norton files completely while the others don't like it or not.

Removing norton is the first step to progress. Why would you want to spend time in a cafe downloading a 11mb antivirus update when there are better things to do with your time. So, there are many antivirus solutions I could recommend but I think for you, Kaspersky Internet Security Suite will do.

Just go to their site and download a 22mb copy of the entire program. Install on your system and connect to the net. You'll need internet access to activate a 30 day trial license and download an antivirus database 10mb. After that, it'll update automatically. It's a superb product by the way.

Most especially, if you have access to a debit or credit card, I recommend you pay for a year/two of access. It'll do you good but like I said it depends on how much you use your pc, how precious the information you have on it and whether or not you have an internet connection.

Computers / Re: How To Format My Hdd by agent124: 4:09am On Apr 12, 2007
Formating a hard drive isn't difficult. Slot in a cd/dvd microsoft Os and restart the pc. Get into the setup by pressing the 'delete' key. Go on to advanced settings and change booting preference from IDE watever (which is the hard drive) to cd/dvd. Once you do this, save your changes and the system will restart.

The system will then try to find a booting file from the CD/DVD you've inserted. If you inserted the Windows Os cd, just wait and follow the instructions on your screen.

It will guide you to formatting the hard drive and installing windows on that drive. Just be patient, make sure you read everything before pressing any keys.

Please format with NTFS and not a quick format. Its that easy. If any problems, find someone who will help you physically or take it to the Otigba boys at computer village that is if you reside in lagos.

Cheers!
Computers / Re: Which Do You Think Is The Best Antivirus? by agent124: 3:54am On Apr 12, 2007
Yes,

I do agree that NOD antivirus has some great capabilities. I used it for a while and it didn't disapoint. Most antivirus softwares (excluding the free ones) that are used in Nigeria I believe are cracked versions- that is, the ones bought at computer village. Very few people would take out some thousands to buy original.

My point is, if you pay for an antivirus, you don't get disapointed but even with that, some are better than others. Ever tried Kaspersky Internet Security Suite. You can try the full working version for 30 days.

Its an amazing software.
Computers / Re: Are There Radio Software 4 Laptops? by agent124: 3:50am On Apr 12, 2007
Ruudie,

Of course yes, without an internet connection, you need a device called a tuner. Most tuners are tv/fm tuners. You just connect your laptop on one end and an antennae at the other end. Voila, you can watch both tv and listen to radio (stations you normally will get in your location e.g. lagos like cool FM and stuff). However, these are the external ones. For your laptop, there are PCMCIA tuners that you insert into your expansion slot and they work as well as the external tuners.

The thing is they are so more expensive than just buying a radio from a store or something. If you have an internet connection, you can get a software like Real Player Premium and you get to listen to BBC, CNN radio and so much more.

Let me know if you have any other questions. For where you can buy a pcmcia tuner, I definitely don't know but let me know if you ever find a place,

Cheers!
Computers / Re: How Can I Recover My Files From A Formatted Hdd by agent124: 3:41am On Apr 12, 2007
Recovering files from formatted hard drive? It can be done, No matter how much you format a hard drive, nothing really is lost; the two questions: how long are you ready to spend on the hard drive searching through logs; and do you have the right tools,

Anyway, if you need some info, i can provide you some. Good luck
