richarts: Tell your bosses the job is important to you and they should think about making a position available for you as discussed with them already and also explain that you believe in growth so that is why you intend going to the university. Every good boss will support your personal growth. Tell them your plans and they will help make the best decision. Especially the CEO Thanks Richarts for the advice. |

Hi Everyone, My Boss and HR have just brought to my notice that they are likely going to redundant me in three month’s time to come. They want to notify me now because they do not want to take me by surprise since I have been a good staff for the past 6 years working with the Micro-credit Organization. Their reason is: the NGO is moving to a status of a company, some staff need to be redundant and I happened to be one of them. So, they therefore want to prepare my mind. However, there are some positions they will like to merge but as far as mine is concern, I am going to go. A month ago, I have applied for a law degree but we have still not been shortlisted and I am not sure whether or not I will be shortlisted and eventually gain acceptance into the University, although I have all the entry requirements. In two to three months time, I will know exactly if I will be accepted or not. So, in the meeting with my Bosses, I told them to think about merging my position with another existing position or create a new position for me. They said they will think about it but that has been giving them headaches – not knowing exactly where I could be best fit. So, they asked me to suggest for them and I suggested two positions where I think I could best fit. And they said they were going to think about it, and the meeting ended. Now, what is actually troubling me: 1) Should I immediately tell them not to worry about merging me with another position since I had already made up my mind to leave? (i.e. if accepted into University or leave it to them to decide). 2) If I told them now and they therefore do not border about offering me a new position and eventually, I am not also accepted into University, then I have lost my job. 3) On the other hand, if I do not tell them now and they went ahead to create a space for me only for me to later (after 2 months or so) to tell them that I am leaving will not create a good impression of me. Since I want to maintain the good relationship that has ever been between me and my bosses. 4) And again, I am thinking if I let them redundant me now, and give me a good reference letter, that will increase my chances of seeking another employment. If a prospective employer sees that I was redundant because my position had been rendered redundant as a result of the transformation that took place in the organization. But if I take a new appointment only for me to later resign (in two or three months time), a prospective employer may not be happy with someone resigning from another work quite too soon he/she is offered a contract. 5) And also, since I have at the back of my mind to leave in three month’s time to come, I am thinking if they offer me a new position, my salary maybe increased which will help me meet some of my college expenses. So, I am really baffled. PLEASE ADVICE ME, THIS IS MY FIRST JOB AND WILL LIKE TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION. I want to thank you very much. |

Hi Everyone, After one has been selected for for Diversity Visa Lottery, can the person add the name of his newly born baby? For example, you and your wife applied when your wife was pregnant in October and three months later, she delivered. If selected, can you include the newly born baby on the list? In addition to the above, in case the non-principal spouse is illiterate and can hardly speak English, though this couple with their newly born baby stand a chance of being given a visa? Of course, the principal winner has certificates and have professional knowledge and have work for a number of years now. Thanks. |

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and do not know I might gone against any policy or guideline. I have just made my first two new post (and this is the third). I saw a red stamp stamped underneath by posts with "Thread Close". Why is this, even when I have not got enough answers? Gone against any roles. See the posts I am referring to: https://www.nairaland.com/1269763/diversity-visa-lottery and this: https://www.nairaland.com/1269798/tips-diversity-visa-lottery Very similar but made additions to the first since I wanted to add details. |
