So there a few questions I have. Who stands to gain from all the chaos being created in Igbo land? Unknown gunmen killing incessantly, burning police offices, killing uniformed men. Do these gunmen ask for the tribe of the forcemen being killed before killing them or they don’t care whether they are igbos. Whether ESN or whatever, every struggle and agitation not well managed has a probability of being hijacked and used to selfish ends. I hope the people concerned understand that it’s their own town, homes and areas they are turning into hotbeds. It’s imperative that everyone concerned over there still applauding the anarchy and stoking the embers of violence understand ‘a child that says the mother won’t sleep, wouldn’t sleep either’ May common sense fall on us all 3 Likes |

Thank God you got your money refunded. Why GTB refunded it, I really don't know but I guess it's to show their customer friendliness. The thing is the *737# shortcode is a genius solution of sorts but the only down side I see is the last 4 digits that is the final verification. If that can be changed to a pin of your own choosing it would be a much better service. The true beauty of the situation is that BVN makes it impossible to get away with that kind of fraud. That fraudster can only get away with it if he relocates outside Nigeria. All his accounts would be flagged and transactions won't be allowed on any of them. The point is even the USA with all the expertise in security still have high rates of electronic fraud. No system is totally foolproof but that code has more merits than demerits. And for you MOD'S that waited this long to push this, the thunder... |

I have clocked 100mph which is about 160km/hr for just about 30 secs, before I reasoned to myself that 'if I die now,how would i/people explain it, shey na euphoria ni abi joy or wetin exactly dey chase am' So I just removed my leg from the accelerator for the car to return back to its 100-120kph speed. That was ibadan-lagos express road just after that sagamu interchange, the road there is super smooth and wide. A nissan altima i4 with 2.5 litre engine. |

It's quite unfortunate the kind of hate filled sentiments I have seen at play here just by going through the comments. A total disregard for human lives, no sympathy no empathy but just rantings because of a tribe. We are all first of Nigerians! When you step out of the shores of this country, nobody knows us as either Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ibibio or any other tribe. Your country of origin is what interests them not tribe... You all swear at each other, tear each other down with words not properly thought of and just taunt mock eachother. For how long would we keep at this senile attitude. You all have forgotten that no one here, I repeat again, no one here could choose where/ which tribe he or she was gonna be born into. So you Chike, could have been Ade, Musa could have been Edet, Halima could have been Adaeze... I don't even know who to blame, whether our parents or we the youths ourselves. Rest assured, I hope to make my country a more tolerant place for my children, a world without this amount of hatred among neighbours. So help me God! 1 Like 1 Share |

Hmmmm, I didn't wanna say anything, but if some notions aren't corrected, some people might just go about passing on ignorance to others. First of, every profession has quacks and mediocres and people who are just lazy thinkers. So calling some engineers that isn't a big deal to me. However, it shows the kind of architect you are if all the engineers you meet/know are quacks. Either you wanna use them like elephants and pay them like ants or.... On the issue of architects being the prime consultants. Its suggests inexperience to say that the architect is always the head of the team. Core engineering projects do not have architects as leads eg a refinery project, bridge construction, and even some buildings where aesthetics is of low significance compared to functionality. You mentioned all structural engineers find it easy to use Orion and not Autocad. Both are two different things, one is for a tool for analysis and design, the other is a tool engineers use for detailing. After using orion/stadpro/etabs/RC cad/sap... we use autocad to present that information so that you simpletons can understand it a bit. The most controversial point is that engineers are lazy... I am not an architect, I am a Civil Engineer with varied experience and this is what I have found: architects are creative artists! you people just draw, there are no limitations to what you can draw, 8m cantilever, a building as a circle with just one column as support, anything the architects mind can conceive without recourse to reality can be presented as a drawing. The engineer however is responsible for turning that your drawing into a reality. He uses available material, technology and know how to attempt to create that drawing into an actual object. He designs with known strength of materials locally, considers what is achievable based on a reasonable budget, thinks of the people that would actually do the work in the selection of his design parameters and then based on all these tells you what is achievable. He is not lazy at all. It is an insult to call an engineer lazy because he has told the architect what he has drawn is not practical. The best among the architect's liaise with their structural engineers when they have an idea for a building. (just so they don't go too far with their thoughts and find out its not workable based on realities on the site or budget or practicality or even available technology) While I don't intend to bash the architects, you should understand the architect's place in a building construction project. Why is the architect rarely invited if there is a building collapse ![]() Bottomline to the OP, upgrade the people you have been working with, deep calls unto the deep. ![]() ![]() 6 Likes |

tossen: Wow! Nice one, would be a pleasure to get to relate with you I must say. Before I get distracted, the slab you've seen are all modifications of ribbed/ waffle slabs with essentially the same background principle underlying it's design n construction. To a lay man, what those balls, styrofoam, pots or whatever else you see do is just take up space, basically to reduce the volume of concrete used in the slab. Now the logic is simple, if I can create many supports(beams), my slab need not be solid/big / thick. This is based on the premise that the higher the design load the thicker the slab has to be, also like someone mentioned, any concrete u have below the neutral zone is a waste( study civil engineering to understand this) ie anything below the reinforcement of a slab is just cover. Its like the 'ay' you have in the word OKAY, absolutely useless. The beams provided are spaced at less than 500mm spacing along the shorter span in a one way slab(ribbed) or in both ways (waffle slab). This reduces the dead weight significantly without affecting the serviceability and ultimate limit state design considerations. Note that the materials used to fill the voids can be removed so it's not for soundproofing or insulation, those are just added benefits if you keep the material. The primary reason we engineers design ribbed/waffle slabs is when we have long spans panels exceeding 7metres along both axis, a drop beam and slab thickness of more than 200mm becomes excessive. Another reason is if the design load is high eg a library or hospital would have a live load consideration in excess of maybe 10KN/m2 which translates into plenty loadddddddd! That's why yabatech library that someone mentioned and most other such structures have waffle slabs. This method has been perfected by Nigerian engineers, and we would continue to tweak it as more technological advance is made. This building is somewhere in lagos, and it has a ribbed slab that had the void material removed, it's beautiful, lovely and it's still standing. I don talk story sha, but it's like doctors talk, u have to belong to understand. Kudos to the other quality and well informed engineers here! NICE,NIstructE. 1 Like

I was gonna quote some one, but so her head won't swell ![]() I'm not an economist or anything but based on what I think is obvious, there are multiple factors at play, albeit with its own cause and effect result. While the official exchange rate has been pegged at #197( whether this is right or not, I can't say), BDC aren't selling at this rate, they make margins of #60/70 on a dollar which is robbery. CBN stopping sales to BDC means they have to sort elsewhere ('autonomous' I wonder where/who that is ![]() Also those that have stockpiled dollars in vaults would likely bring them out in the short term, which would likely crash the price in the black market further. I think the bottom line is this, the dollar isn't our currency, why the heck are we so keen on having it (as Nigerians in general) even as non importers. Time would tell though, but I am fairly confident nobody as a one stop solution to fix this problem... I would take CBN govs adaptability and flexibility over those shouting devaluation as the only solution. As time goes on, the CBN would evolve better strategies to fix the loopholes generated by each policy while we pray for better oil prices in 2016. 12 Likes 1 Share |

meforyou1: That's the beauty of those portfolio....they have a very unique common ground which make it very sensible to manage them together as smaller units in a much bigger picture. Power+Works +Housing= INFRASTRUCTURE BRF without doubt is an astute administrator, big picture, forward thinking and conceptual leader. He doesn't have to be an engineer to head this role, he just has to have the right engineers, planners and the works in the team. 6 Likes |

Wait a min, please let me get this straight, how much is d bride price we are talking about. Less than 50k, less than 100k, about 200k, 500k, 1million or even more. Until you can answer that question, I think whatever answer you give might just be insignificant. In my culture, the dowry is usually returned to the husbands family as we believe our daughter is priceless. However, some families that are 'impoverished' see it as an opportunity to make money for themselves, I see no reason why in such case, the girl wouldn't make d burden lesser by talking to her family to make the bride price lesser or more reasonable. |

Nice thread of possibilities though I think it is a bit far fetched. If it was this bad, I can assure you the whole of some countries would have been wiped out years back. The thing about ebola virus is dt it is not infectious/transmitted until it becomes terminal. So the most likely place u can get infected is in an hospital or when u handle a dead patients body. Ironically, common antispetics soaps are enough to safeguard against d virus when its not terminal. Kudos for your creativity though, that is some awesome brain work u put into the story. |

@op Am not a married man yet, but I sure hope to excel at it pretty soon. One of the things have observed is that absolutely no one can change overnight. Implying that you must av seen signs of this kind of behaviour before now and u allowed it or that the entire marriage was a marriage of convenience. As a man,you are the head of the home, some things shouldn't be accepted at all.Where did u meet this ur wife, how was she behaving before? U can't turn a wild dog to a pet by just putting a ring on it. In my mind, your short marriage is already doomed if u don't act...common! Its too early for that kinda crap. You better take a casual leave and discuss with her or ANNUL dt farce u call a marriage. And pls, don't bring any kids into the equation just yet! |

shymexx: This is definitely not an ideal situation. Any man that finds himself in this scenario needs to be thick-skinned because the woman will make life unbearable for him. She won't respect him as a man regardless of the feelings and how emotional attached she's to the man. I think you need to drop this kinda thinking...there are so many women who are contradictions to what you think is a norm... Bottomline: shine your eyes when you wanna pick the woman 1 Like |
