Politics / Kwankwaso: The Things To Watch Under My Administration. by Akogunkijaya: 10:41am On Nov 02, 2022
RMK administration believes that examination bodies are not revenue generating agencies and must not operate as such. The notion that any examination body will generate income and contribute to the federation accounts is a misnomer;

Examination bodies are service agencies that facilitate access to higher education and training for our teaming young population;

For our administration, no Nigerian child shall be denied the opportunity to write WAEC, NECO, JAMB, etc., because of their inability to pay exorbitant registration/examination fees.

These examinations shall be free and all application forms for admission into tertiary education institutions (TEIs) shall also be free; These examination bodies will be adequately funded by the RMK administration;

The notion that matriculation examination in Nigeria expires after one year will be stopped forthwith. JAMB results under the RMK government will have a lifespan of four years and TEIs will be required to accept these results for the purposes of admission.
We shall change, as a nation, how we view the entire educational enterprise: we should see and treat education as an investment, not an expenditure. This is because education is the key to long term future of any people.

When money allocated to education is seen as expenditure, the attitude is to cut costs whenever possible. But when money allocated to education is seen as investment, one does not begrudge the money at all. One aims only to maximise the return on investment by setting the right standards; asking the right questions; instituting the necessary control; and insisting on performance and target. We will target inflation and reduce it to single digit.

Job application is going to be free under RMK’s presidency. Building morethan 500,000 classes to all states in Nigeria. And recruiting more then 200,000 fresh teachers. Each local government will benefit with at least 40 class rooms.

If given the mandate, JAMB lifeline will be 4 years and all Senior Secondary Certificate Exams ( WAEC, NECO & NABTEB will be without charges.
If given the mandate under my administration we are not going to fight Curruption, We are Going to Prevent Curruption. Prevention is Better than Cure.

Sports / Potter Explains Reasons For Taking Chelsea Job. by Akogunkijaya: 12:18am On Sep 12, 2022
Graham Potter has explained his reasons for agreeing to take charge at Chelsea while penning an open letter to those he is leaving behind at Brighton.

Succeeding Tuchel at Stamford Bridge
Opportunity too good to turn done
Leaves Seagulls in a good place
WHAT HAPPENED? The 47-year-old has seen his stock soar since catching the eye in Sweden with Ostersunds, with productive spells taken in at Swansea and the Amex Stadium. Another step up the coaching ladder is taking him to Stamford Bridge as successor to Thomas Tuchel, with a farewell being bid to a club that has allowed him to display impressive recruitment and tactical nous.

WHAT THEY SAID: Explaining his decision to head for west London, Potter has told Brighton’s official website: “This has been three wonderful years with a club that has changed my life, and I want to take a moment to say goodbye to all of you who have made it such a special period of my career. I bid farewell to a great club and one that will always mean so much to me and my family. For some I recognise that the change that comes so suddenly in football can be hard to accept. I may not be able to persuade you all to forgive my departure – but I would at least like to take the chance to say thank you.

“I hope that you will understand that at this stage of my career, I felt I had to grasp a new opportunity. I feel I am a better person and a better manager for the experiences I have had here. Not every team selection or decision has been perfect. But the club has created an environment that gives you the scope to make mistakes, learn from them and then improve.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Potter took in 135 games in charge of Brighton, seeing them 42 victories across that spell, and walks away with the Seagulls sat fourth in the Premier League table.

AND WHAT'S MORE: They are sat three points ahead of Chelsea, with the Blues making another change in their dugout after struggling to find a spark in domestic and Champions League competition.
DID YOU KNOW? Since the start of last season, only Liverpool (11.4) and Manchester City (9.9) have averaged more high turnovers per game than Graham Potter’s Brighton (9.cool in the Premier League.

WHAT NEXT FOR POTTER? Chelsea have seen Premier League fixtures postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but Potter’s first game at the helm could come in a European clash with Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.

Sports / 'I Am Devastated' - Tuchel Admits Anguish At Being Sacked As Chelsea Manager. by Akogunkijaya: 12:08am On Sep 12, 2022
Thomas Tuchel has spoken out about his Chelsea sacking for the first time, revealing that the club will always have a "special place in his heart".

Tuchel dismissed following European defeat
German has revealed sadness at being sacked
Graham Potter now in charge of Blues
WHAT HAPPENED? Tuchel has released an official statement following his sacking by Chelsea earlier this week.

WHAT THEY SAID: "This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end," he wrote. "This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start."

"The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever. I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart."

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Chelsea parted company with Tuchel following an apparently underwhelming start to the season. When he was sacked the Blues had 10 points from six Premier League games and his last match in charge was a disappointing Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

AND WHAT'S MORE: Tuchel has been replaced in the Stamford Bridge hot seat by former Brighton manager Graham Potter. The Blues paid a reported £22 million for his services, and he has penned a five-year contract.

Sports / John Obi Mikel: Why Did He Play Under A False Name? by Akogunkijaya: 12:19am On Sep 11, 2022
The Nigeria superstar enjoyed a decade of success in Chelsea’s midfield…but no one knew his real name

John Obi Mikel is one of the most successful midfielders in the Premier League, but few people know that he played all those years under a false name.

Many fans are familiar with the 35-year-old, who was a Champions League winner with Chelsea in 2012 and clinched the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria in 2013.

However, the story behind his name is fascinating, with the Nigeria Football Federation originally registering the playmaker under a false name.
It started at the U-17 World Cup in 2003, where the Nigeria squad included Mikel, who was born under the name John Michael Nchekwube Obinna.

He became ‘Mikel’ thanks to a registration error, as a member of the association had given his name incorrectly, and that’s how it was subsequently printed on the player’s jersey.
Mikel told the story years later on ‘Beyond the Game’ radio show.

"We had this tournament with the U-17 national team,” he began, “and they spelled my name wrong. La Liga

Mikel told the story years later on ‘Beyond the Game’ radio show.

"We had this tournament with the U-17 national team,” he began, “and they spelled my name wrong.

“I saw it on the jersey and I was like: 'What is that? It's not my name.'"

However, since there were only 20 minutes to go until kick-off, the mistake could no longer be corrected.

"I played pretty well," Mikel laughed. "Before the next game, they asked me, 'Should we change the name?' But I told them to leave it that way."

So ‘Michael’ became ‘Mikel’.

He decided to continue playing with ‘Mikel’ on his back in the years that followed and even later officially changed his name to ‘John Obi Mikel’.

However, the saga didn’t end there.

In 2016, before Mikel moved to China, he again changed his name, with the midfielder this time taking the lead and re-organising his name as ‘Mikel John Obi’.

The aim behind this tweak was to restore Mikel as his given name—or Christian name—and to establish that John Obi are his second and third names respectively.

The midfielder nonetheless retained ‘Mikel’ on his shirt at Stamford Bridge—a relief to those supporters who had invested in his name and number 12 on their shirts.

As well as his UCL glories, Mikel also won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the 2013 Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Since leaving West London, he’s represented the likes of Tianjin TEDA, Middlesbrough, Trabzonspor and Stoke City.

He’s been without a club since leaving Kuwait SC in 2021.

The 35-year-old’s name won’t be forgotten by Chelsea fans…even if it wasn’t the right one.
