Dont feel about ur refusal, i had similar experience last year at the british council, so stay tight, when re-applying try to fill all their conditions your refusal letter in the first application and the sky is your stepping stone.

i am not an attorney but an accountant(WIP) same with my bros like victor4u & sharpman, but i disagree totally that lawyers are liars.
ever seen the title of a sticker that says"law is my profession, trouble is my name"?, well from this i see a lawyer as:
1. a trained professional who is there to bail us out of trouble by exploring the judicial precedence and also the Lapuners(open-ended statements) from applicable Acts to get a favourable verdict.

so if a lawyer can explore this means and get a favourable results, i think they deserve to be respected.

i'll add here too that every professional is a solution provider, i dont believe in stories but results and i think some people may share my views. A result oriented lawyer has more crowd than a story telling one
